cat lovers this will make you smile / haters go away
(106 Posts)Just wanted to share some lovely cats that made me smile last night . The black cat lost her kitten, but was given an orange kitten that she loved and Grandpa Mason was a feral elderly cat with advanced kidney disease who cared for Orphan kittens.
These cats had hard lives, but they gave love to orphans and its heartwarming to see carer" cats that will happily take on orphans. In cat colonies, the more nurturing cats sometimes help other cats take care of their litter, it's quite sweet.

Please no nasty comments today. This is supposed to spread joy. If you don't like cats please dont bother commenting.
They are lovely I love cats. The second one looks just like my gorgeous Amie who I had to put to sleep last year because she had tumours on her liver. I was so devastated she was only 8. I now have two siblings who are only 18 months old and like to lie together asleep and “kiss” each other when they meet on the house. They don’t take the place of my precious Amie but they help. Enjoy your beautiful cats
Thank you for this. I love cats.
Interesting, Biglouis about the cat who likes to drink from a tap. I have had cats who did this and my son's cat rushes outside when he hears the garden hose to drink from that. I wonder why.
Thank you, these well loved and cared for cats are gorgeous. I am too old to care for a cat now much as I love them. I love to see photos.
My present two were born a week apart to two sisters - it is said they were sired by the same tom. Genetics being what they are, I suppose he being ginger may have sired a ginger male in one litter and a black female in t'other, but Ah hae ma doots!
Neither mother cat had quite enough milk for her brood, so the kittens fed wherever there seemed to be milk on offer- my little tom, being the smallest of the younger litter was shoved and pushed out of the way by his bossy siblings and cousins, until the only female in the elder litter got tired of her brothers, took a shine to the little one, kept him beside her and growled fiercely while they fed at anyone who tried to edge him out.
I wanted two kittens, so having fallen for her, it was fairly obvious which little brother was coming with us. For the first couple of days here, she growled while they fed, sounding exactly like an electric mincer, although there were no other animals to interfere.
She has taught her brother to fight - she knew some very dirty tricks! and brought in live mice when he was a little slow in the uptake with regards to mousing. Any cat in the vicinity who threatens Tigger finds him, or herself dealing with Trubel, as did the dog that had the temerity to CHASE Tigger!
I honestly thought Trubel was going to inflict serious bodily harm on that dog - fortunately, she came when I called her off,
If she really needs to paralyse a foe, she wails like a banshee - or rather sounds ominously like an air-raid siren!
we used to have 2 cats who passed away when they were 19, and 15, what a huge gap they leave,,,now we have cat visitors who come for their breakfast, and supper... love them all
This is a nice post, I absolutely adore cats.
I've never owned a cat and am more of a dog person but who can resist a tiny kitten? Certainly not those older cats in the picture.
"The trouble with a kitten is that
Eventually it becomes a cat" (Ogden Nash)
I don't agree Allira I actually prefer grown up cats, they are marginally less silly.
I enjoyed reading this cat related snippet from today's Times. Cats enjoy playing fetch, but only on their terms. A report by The University of Sussex, what a great job
found cats would change the rules of the game to suit their mood. Sometimes bringing the object back halfway or gradually dropping it further and further away from their owner. Some cats will only fetch for particular people
Contrary and selective that's why we love them, whereas dogs, (I love them too but not quite as much) are anybodies.
Lovely post, cats bring such joy.
I have just read a post on the Doorbells thread about a cat who activates the front door camera to be let in rather than use the cat flap.
I`ve had several cats over my many years. Billy, the present occupant of my heart, is 15, he was 12 when I took him on, and he gives so much pleasure and love. He`s the first cat I`ve ever met who doesn`t miaow, the loudest noise he makes is his purring.
My daughter can`t bring her very large German Shepherd anymore though, the first time he and Billy met, Billy attacked him!
Lovely post, although I'm not a cat person whenever at friends their cat always chooses to sit on my lap. I think he's trying to change me gradually it's working.
Oh, look at that lovely tum-tum, Hellogirl, just ripe for tickling! 😻
I think that’s right about playing fetch, Terribull. One of our kittens in particular brings me the same toy mouse over and over again. She never gets fed up. I do.
My neighbour’s cat brings her night-time presents. The most recent was a live mouse on her pillow - eek! 😱
Tum-tum.
A cat came to us many years ago. Gradually we came to love her. She was fierce and once when a dog came in our yard, she jumped on his back and rode him down to the corner. He was screaming all the way. I guess she held on with her claws!

Many cats prefer to drink running water rather than still water in a bowl. (Doesn't account for them slurping out of drains and puddles, I know!).
One of my cats haunted the side of the sink, catching drips from the tap and then a friend told me about Cat-it drinking fountains and the problem was solved.
I'd had no idea but this neat little device cycles water through a filter and forms a constantly flowing gentle supply of water at just the right height for a cat to drink.
Mine regarded it with grave suspicion for the first 24 hours but soon got the idea and have never looked back or sat by the tap since.😺
We have a pet fountain thats good for the cat and dog. They love it!
I heard that kidney problems affect a lot of older cats but the fountain encourages them to drink. I mix extra water with their tuna and chicken and we avoid dry food where possible. I think the reason my 16 year old cat is healthy is because of good hydration and good food which I make.
One of the things I make is doggy loaf which has grated carrot and egg in apart from meat. I was worried because the cat was eating it but googled it and apparently it's quite good for them to have a bit. The cat has definitely had a better diet since I got the dog because he wants what she has.
I love cats -until recently we had 3.
Until recently, we had different too but have decided they are too much of a tie.
I need to say that the heading of this thread is unnecessarily aggressive.
I knew about Grandpa Mason but love stories about kittens beingtaken over and mothered by unrelated cats. I've always had cats in my life and we are now down to my lovely blue Burmese boy, who is 19 1/2 and doing well.
I have always had cats and my children were brought up to love and respect all animals. I usually get rescue cats if I can.
That's adorable, we have two ginger fluff balls, I wished they got on as well, they just tolerate each other, with the dominant one offering a chase now and again lol, what a lovely post

Cats are lovely. Some humans less so. I'm sorry if it reads aggresive, I prefer to think defensive (I did not want to have people saying horrible things about cats or participating in a discussion about cats only to say unkind things as there can be a lot of unpleasantness on this site)
Just wanted a nice post with nice people. That is all.
Kittens are lovely but my late husband an I wanted a 12 year old cat as we were old and it was unfair to select a kitten that would outlive us. She was a lovely, affectionate cat and died when she was 17. Please remember older cats when rescuing one. They have so much love to bring one.Having said that I loved the kitten link.
