Just wanted to share some lovely cats that made me smile last night . The black cat lost her kitten, but was given an orange kitten that she loved and Grandpa Mason was a feral elderly cat with advanced kidney disease who cared for Orphan kittens.
These cats had hard lives, but they gave love to orphans and its heartwarming to see carer" cats that will happily take on orphans. In cat colonies, the more nurturing cats sometimes help other cats take care of their litter, it's quite sweet.

We live on a farm and one day my DH found 2 very young kittens in a sack at the gate.
Our elderly (neutered) male house-cat took them under his wing and washed them and cleared up their poo, yes they were young enough to need stimulation to pass poo, and we fed them from a hypodermic needle holder (without the needle) with formula from the vet.
They are now elderly themselves and 'Dada-cat' is long gone. But I'll never forget his devotion.

My cat looked after this litter of kittens when their mother was killed by a badger when they were 2 weeks old. She obviously couldn’t feed them as she had no milk (and had to wear the red coat to stop them making her nipples sore) She kept them warm, clean and comforted whilst I fed them. We raised all 8 between us and I’m sure she helped save their lives.

Awwww so cute, every cat is special in their own individual way.

Mine usually "welcomes" my son home, but if I have fed him first , he does not welcome him home because he has gone to bed on a full tum tum grin

Beautiful story. I’m a dog lover predominantly but I have a soft spot for cats. Unfortunately the other half is allergic or we would be over run with all four legged friends. My dream would be to have a huge garden with no neighbours for miles and have 10 dogs + and cats hogging the sun and heat of a sunny conservatory and then the winter fire. My idea of heaven.

Oh my goodness Incafarmer those kittens and foster mum look like pure breeds! They’re stunningly beautiful. Though I’ve never come across a cat that isn’t beautiful. ❤️❤️❤️

Such a lovely post! We're big cat people and have had many in our 43 year married life. When the last one died 5 years ago, we decided he'd be a very hard act to follow & anyway, we could go away without worrying about cat sitters...that was until mice kept eating all the veg, rabbits found the garden and so on. Mr was very keen to have another cat so we now have two gorgeous black & white rescues, just coming up for their 3rd birthday. They are adorable, chalk & cheese! Bosco, the male , is very leggy & was extremely slow to catch onto the cat flap. He's very laid back & reminds me of Dylan, the Magic Roundabout rabbit - very chilled & probably addicted to cat nip! Duffy, the smaller female, is sharp as a tack, quick to learn & a fantastic hunter. She's also more affectionate than Bosco & likes to sleep on the bed, as close as she can get to me. They're lovely, I can't believe I didn't want any more! Still a pain getting house sitters though!

Incafarmer Are they all Abyssinian? Whatever they are, they are stunningly beautiful.

GrammaH What a handsome pair. I love their black chins.

My cats have such a hard life 🤣 the Tabby is a neutered male called Jesse his companion is his baby. A black kitten, Mulder, we adopted who was introduced to Jesse aged about 10 weeks. Jesse immediately adopted him, washing him and protecting him and even carrying him around in his mouth!! He still is adored by his son 😍

I enjoyed reading this cat related snippet from today's Times. Cats enjoy playing fetch, but only on their terms. A report by The University of Sussex, what a great job envy found cats would change the rules of the game to suit their mood. Sometimes bringing the object back halfway or gradually dropping it further and further away from their owner. Some cats will only fetch for particular peopleshock Contrary and selective that's why we love them, whereas dogs, (I love them too but not quite as much) are anybodies.

One of the dogs I 'babysit' does exactly this 🤔

I love cats and dogs, love watching videos of them too.😊

Cats are easier than dogs, I admit, as they are more independant . Also with the weather on the turn, I'm looking at better waterproofs for those all-weather dog walks!

This little guy was rescued by my daughter from some farm dogs who disrupted a litter of feral kittens. The poor mother cat couldn't be found, none of the other kittens survived the attack. He was taken straight to the vets and kitten formula and tiny bottles were provided, they thought he was perhaps a week old. She hand reared him and he is now, two years later, a really big boy and just adorable.

I absolutely love cats. They are so interesting and beautiful to watch.

Oh, cats are much nicer than most people I think! Most animals are.

Oh, yes!

And thanks for posting the video - it's lovely.

Incafarmer Fri 06-Sept-24 14:01:05

Indigo8. Thanks. They are red and cream Burmese.

She777. That’s my dream too.
I don’t have cats at the moment as I believe my last kitten was poisoned.
I vowed then never to have kittens while I live here. I wouldn’t put any other cat through that.

Growing up we had cats and dogs all the time.

One time my dog Tufty had a litter of puppies at the same time as our cat Karla.

We had the bright idea of them sharing the maternity area which was a huge box cut down to allow both nursing mothers to get in and out yet tall enough to keep kitties and puppies from wandering.

It worked really well as when one mother took a break from feeding the other would take over.

We would often peek over to see the cat with a few puppies attached and vice versa and even when both mothers were there it was the same.

I don’t think it harmed them in any way also we had no barking kitties or mewing puppies. 🤣

I’m waiting for someone to come on and mention that cat and dog milk has different nutritional value tailored to each of their needs and of course it’s true but for the length of time that they’re being nursed and then weened onto their own food, the harm if any is minimal.

They all turned out fine according to most of their owners.

I wish I could have a cat again. Maybe I will if I can get a catio built as I won’t be moving anytime soon.

GrammaH. What lovely cats . They look as though they are wearing lipstick.

Seakay Fri 06-Sept-24 18:30:20

Thank you for all of the shares and stories.
I can't have pets in my rented flat, but neighbour's cats (who I feed when they are away) come to visit sometimes.

Why is the alternative to cat loving 'cat hating'. Aren't there many variations between the two from, just mild, 'like but don't love' to 'avoid but do not hate'

HowVeryDareYou2 Fri 06-Sept-24 19:02:32

00opsidia That's so lovely. I adore cats, always had them until the last one died almost 2 years ago. He used to allow next-door's kitten into our house (he even let it eat his food) and they used to lie together on our spare bed.

sunglow12 Fri 06-Sept-24 20:34:22

Love all cats but sadly can’t have one

I didn't say that it was Cat hating @Monica. If you're referring to the title it is me wanting to have a post where people could be kind to each other and admire cats.

If people don't like cats there are plenty of other forums they can go and post on so are not justified if they come here to criticise cats or cat lovers.

00opsidia Fri 06-Sept-24 20:56:45

@Howverydareyou2 so sorry you lost yours. Happy memories though . Aww how cute! It's those kind of moments that make us smile years after!

@sunglow12 So sorry you can't have one.

I think we are not going to replace the current cat, just because of planning to travel more , but after a gap we might do. I like watching cat videos, they make me smile. I hope you can enjoy watching them at least.
