New Dog.

You are very lucky and I am pleased for you.
My friend’s S adopted one from Rumania and he has been impossible to settle.
It is some time now, over two years I think and they are having a difficult time with him.
They love him to bits of course so keep faith with him but holidays or even days out together as a family are hard to organise.
It is impossible to imagine what he has been through.

That's lovely to hear, Caleo. I hope you have many happy times ahead together. My DiL has two dogs, one of which is a Romanian rescue and she is a lovely little thing who has settled into life here very well indeed.

Hope you and your new dog have a lovely life together Caleo one of our dogs is a Romanian rescue too, she is lovely and cuddly but not too sociable. She likes to sit on the bed and look out of the window. I understand that other people have not been as fortunate with their Romanian dogs.

My Romanian has found his voice but only to bark at harmless dogs passing by. I really want him to bark at strangers at the door, He is fairly big so has quite a nice bark which is good.
I train my dogs to stop barking when told. It's "Good dog" when they bark then a quiet "Shut" when they have to stop. barking. I'd send a photo of us but don't know how to post it .Maybe get a son to do that tomorrow.

He sounds ideal Caleo and I hope he is great company for you. Do let us know his name......or will you call him Velcro? He sounds like my daughter's dog.......she can't go for a pee without a canine companion

I adopted a Romanian rescue November 2023. Toby has never barked, jumped up or even licked any one. He has never had an accident in the house either. He is now 17 years old, loves everyone and is gentle and kind.
He is my world now that l am on my own.

I slept better than I have for months mow I have my big white live-in friend. He sleeps on my bed and never tries to get under the duvet---he hardly needs to with a thick coat like his! When I awoke I sit on the side of the bed to equalise my blood pressure as usual .After half a minute stroking and "hello good boy" get up to bedside commode then carry commode pot and walk with zimmer and dog through to back door on the way to shower room. Open door for dog "Good boy, hurry up" and tidy my bed and replace pot in the commode. Put the the kettle on, Open tin of dog food which he is already asking for and give him half for his breakfast. Make toast and fried egg, He well knows how to politely take a bit of buttered toast off the fork. Now I am here typing this trivia to you if anyone still reading.
Thanks for all the kind comments. Will ask my son to show me how to post a photo. Later I may tell about the amazing rescue he came from. I will be sending her a jolly good donation as I know how much it costs to import these dogs and get them treated for injuries mental and physical.

Maya1 please let me know how your lovely Rommie is gettiing on and you too. My Rommie's bark is sort of strangulated .Is it possible they were trained not to bark in their homes in Romania? Mine too has been clean in the house since he arrived. It seems you and I were both lucky in getting soft natured dogs. Mine is 8 years old so not bounding with energy. . I really needed an easy dog as I am too small too old to man handle a dog that size. As I said, the rescue woman is great at matching.

It could be partly because many UK-based rehoming charities have very stringent rules about who can and cannot adopt I dog (which I totally understand). When we lost our old boy, we looked into rehoming a rescue dog, but were rejected by almost everywhere we approached because our grandson, who was 3 at the time, was living with us.

We tried to get a local rescue dog as a companion for our other rescue. There were no dogs considered suitable but the lady at the rescue centre is friendly with Miss Marple - Romanian rescue and knew they had a dog coming into France which would be suitable for us so we went from there. Two happy dogs now.

Not my dog, btw!

Jaxjacky at the age of 93 it's really hard to find a rescue who will let me adopt or foster . The rescue I got my Rommie from inspects on a case by case basis, and I and my social back-up, garden, and indoor facilities passed muster. There were phone conversations, videos and a personal visit from her volunteer man who checked and took photos too.

My son who likes to go running took my dog out this afternoon, let him off lead, and the dog ran right beside my son, never strayed from his side, along four fields. My son is so pleased , he never had a dog run with him before. Then when it was time for lead on again the dog came when asked to get the lead on.

We adopted Dylan from Spain as, having registered with various rescue centres in the UK, and been responsible dog owners for many years, no suitable dogs were available. The charity in Spain were so very thorough with their assessment of us and our home. He’s been with us 7 years tomorrow, and is adorable. 😊

Jaxjacky, our 3 previous rescues were from a local rescue centre.
All 3 were difficult dogs with many problems.
After both my husband and dog died within months of each other l did try to adopt from them again. They were not interested in me having a dog.
I then went to Safe Rescue based in Norfolk. I explained my situation, also telling them about my Autistic granddaughter.
They marched me with 2 dogs, both were lovely souls. I picked Toby because he was the oldest. That's why l adopted a Romanian rescue. Also if you have time look up Botosani, Romania. It is a hell hole that Toby spent 10 years in.
Absolutely nothing like our rescues.

Maya1, have you heard of an autistic woman called Temple Grandin? She has a special affinity with animals because she is autistic. Animals and autistic people think similarly. She studied food animals for slaughter and advised on how to calm them so they don't suffer fear and anxiety.

Well good for them, dogs and small children do not always mix. Especially when introducing a new dog into a baby's home.
So adopt a Romanian dog, no proper vetting re owners, no history re dog, poor thing possibly been abused, introduce them into a family situation, goodness knows what people are letting themselves in for.
