A living, breathing, warm and above all loving creature snuggled up into the small of my back? What’s not to like?
My bed, my business 🐶

Our last dog always did and during over 14 years I can’t think that there were ever any ill effects.

It’s a decision for the individuals concerned nobody else.
I wonder tho…. How on earth do you have, ahem, a love life with your DH/ partner, with a dog lying across the bed or a cat looking on interestedly? 🤭
My answer would be a definite no to animals on the bed.

Our whippet has his cave- bed in my room. Often however, I will wake up and he is in bed next to me with his head on the pillow. I have no idea how he does it.

In theory no, in practice sometimes by invitation. I've been away for a couple of days and our dog sitter came. Our dog was pleased to see me and stayed with me until I went to bed then asked for permission to come upstairs. He has his own blanket which I put on the bed if he's allowed to stay. Normally he's happy to stay in his own bed.

It certainly isn’t disgusting to let your dog sleep on your bed, it’s personal choice. My dogs have always slept downstairs as part of my training approach, I’ve worried if they never learn to settle without their human, separation anxiety might be an issue.
I don’t want my sleep disturbed and if friends or grandchildren stay, sine want the dogs wandering about deciding who to snuggle up with.
My spaniel is allowed up in the morning while I have a cuppa and read the news, she’s snuggled up, happily snoring right now.

I've not ever liked dogs on beds, but, each to their own. Back in the day, I shared a bed with a man, and not everyone would choose this, either.

We didn’t let the spaniels on the bed - they slept outside anyway. The cat slept on the bed.
When DD2 got her dog/dogs, they slept on her bed, so we did the same with them, whenever they stay here. Only Little Dog now, but he’s runs upstairs as soon as I set the alarm and settled in his place before I’m up the first couple of stairs - novel for him, as she has a bungalow.

Why on earth ask Farview you should know it’s a personal thing and different people will have different levels of acceptance
When I had a dog yes she sometimes slept with me on my bed

Chocolatelovingran🤣 I know that feeling I ve often wondered why any of the men in my life made it to my bedroom let alone my bed

Both of our dogs start off on the bed but then one gets off and goes into his bed and the other one goes downstairs.

They are small dogs and both very clean.

The poochon snuggles up to hubby he is devoted to him.

I think it is nice, when I go to the loo I see "my" dog, Molly moo on the bed I find it comforting.

Better not go there Oreo. There are frequently reports about humans having sex with animals!

Personal choice, but for me, no way.

*You’re far more likely to catch something horrible from having a human in your bed*.

In answer to the question, No but I don'y care what others do smile

Allowing a dog to sleep on your bed doesn’t equate to bestiality

Galaxy Sun 07-Sept-25 13:59:17

Well that escalated quickly.

We used to have 2 adorable roan cockers (sisters) back in the day. Dogs are pack animals. They need boundaries. Both of ours were trained as tiny pups that the stairs and bedrooms were strictly off limits,

Happy us. Happy sister dogs sharing their own huge bed together - downstairs.

My two cats sleep on the bed.

yogitree Sun 07-Sept-25 14:10:56

I'm happy for my dog to sleep on either of her own two bed, the sofa or my bed, although she prefers her own as there 's not much space for her if my DH and I are in it. She 's more inclined to share the bed if only me in it. I have no problems with this, although it does involve a bit of extra washing but she is worth it and is most definitely a part of our family.

I find it really sad the posters saying it’s ’disgusting’ to have a much loved dog on the bed/furniture. You obviously have never experienced a bond with a dog and how much they mean to people - especially someone on their own.
Our dog doesn’t actually sleep on the bed as she is too big but why on earth do people consider it disgusting?? Very strange…

My pug sleeps on my bed, but it is a king size, so I have my space and he has his. Sometimes he jumps down and sleeps on the floor. No problem.

The reason I asked the question, was because of a couple of my friends used the word wrong…. How can it be wrong to love your pet and let her sleep on the end of the bed…she is with me 24/7. Can’t leave her at home with H re his illness.. he opens doors and gates randomly… so me and her are always together , she’s my sanity saver and I love to have her lying by my feet as I go to sleep

Iam64 Sun 07-Sept-25 16:58:36

I remember your spaniel joining you farview. I’m so pleased to see how she enriches your life. Spaniels are such loving companions. I’m on the sofa, still in recovery mode. My little blue roan sleeping at my side. šŸ¶šŸ’–
Don’t let anyone tell you it’s wrong -

MayBee70 Sun 07-Sept-25 17:00:00

Not sure how you stop a whippet ( or any sighthound) from getting onto the bed. My spaniels never slept on the bed but sighthounds think that beds and sofas were invented for them.
