I find it really sad the posters saying itās ādisgustingā to have a much loved dog on the bed/furniture. You obviously have never experienced a bond with a dog and how much they mean to people - especially someone on their own.
Our dog doesnāt actually sleep on the bed as she is too big but why on earth do people consider it disgusting?? Very strangeā¦
I don't usually comment that an idea or opinion opinion is sad but here I do feel a little saddened and for the reasons Taunton wrote.
Beloved late dog slept on rather than in our bed when it suited him. The rest of the time he slept in his basket in our bedroom. When he was ready to retire he would look at each of us in turn with a quizzical " well I'm ready for bed even if you're not "then off he would trot.
Miss him still.
Of course you should let your dog sleep on the bed if you wish. It's absolutely nobody's business but your own.
FYI I know loads of people whose pets sleep on or in their beds.
I recently learned that the two cats of some friends of ours "sleep in the bed with us" ( when I asked them whether their cats were "in" or "out" at night.)
Every dog Iāve ever lived with has been welcome to sleep in my bedroom if they chose to, I live alone now but my current tiny dog is the only one to have always slept on the bed instead of beside it. I usually have a cat on the bed too.
I have two big beautiful Golden Retrievers, they sleep on the floor at the foot of our bed, but when the weather gets cooler the older one sneaks up and lays full length between hubby and me. I put my hand on his soft head and go into a lovely relaxed sleep. The younger one jumps up as soon add hubby gets up for his morning mummy cuddles, I love it š„°
I've had many dogs over the years. They all slept on our bed. Including the 2 we have now.

A number of years ago I rescued a dog...she was a huge Rottweiler and although I've had dogs all of my life, she really was the most affectionate, gentle girl that I've ever had the pleasure of sharing life with.
She would always go to sleep with her paw on my hand and like you, that touch made me so relaxed.
I will forever miss her.
Unless you bathe your dog after every walk then it is disgusting to allow him on your bed. They walk through dirty parks, on dirty pavements, accumulating all manner of biohazards. Yuk. The 5Live presenter Tony Livesey said that his dogs slept on his bed. But, he defended himself, we changed the bedding every day. Quite frankly I did not believe that he did that 20 minute chore daily!
Our dog. a spaniel mix is small enough to sleep on our bed, as is our cat. Both are welcome.
Not sure I would want an enormous dog on my bed, but it might be we would just buy a bigger bed if we had a bigger dog.
And yes, dogs do have some germs, etc, but generally nothing that we can catch. And isn't there a saying that a peck of dirt does one good?

Yes, small dog on top of the covers š
PS There are more ādisgustingā things around in my view, eg people working in shops or cafes who donāt wash their hands after going to the loo, etc., rather more common than one might expect, Iām afraid. Or water companies who spill filth over our land and in our rivers or sea.

Yes our dog made it v clear from day one that she would allow us to share her bed! (Not her dog bed š¤£) but the big one with a comfy duvet!
Nothing wrong with it! Mine always have, if they want to. Nothing has ever happened to me. In fact I sleep better as a dog's sense is better than mine. Nothing to do with your friends. Keep doing it.
Well, well, well, so many disgusted grans!š±š¶š±š¶š±š¶š±
Fortunately I could not care less! Nor could Rosie.
Dogs have slept with their humans since the days of camp fires at the mouth of caves. Dogs not only guarded the flock or if no flock, their āpackābut also kept them warm at night because a dogās body temperature is higher than a human beingās.
No contest.
Me either
A definite no from me. Had cats and dogs at different times. All slept downstairs. A friend however had three dogs at the same time and all slept with her in the bed yuk!
As long as we sleep alone in our beds, it should not be the concern of anyone else if we choose to let a pet sleep there too.
It is only a problem if someone else is sharing our bedroom, or perhaps if a medical condition makes it inadvisable to be so close to a pet.
Yes⦠my dog.. my decision⦠whatever my friends thinkā¦
Love it when I turn the tv off at 10.. she knows itās bedtime and trots off down the hall and jumps up onto her blanket on āourā bed ššāš¦ŗ
All of my dogs for the last 60ish years have slept on my bed, if they could get by the cats. No wonder we needed a very big bed š¦®šāā¬
Our dog has her bed on the landing and thatās where she sleeps most of the night. We have a gate to keep her out.
But after 5am, the gate is open and sheāll join us or not, just as she chooses. If Iāve forgotten to put her blanket on top of the duvet, she barks.
Compared with the disgusting habits of some humans, sheās clean, but itās our bed and her choice!
Our cats always slept on our bed. I haven't owned a dog and if DS and family bring their dog here she sleeps in a crate.
Firstly I must assure you that I feel itās each to their own. However, as someone else said-Grandmotherto8-think where dogs walk, where their noses sniff and the fact that their bottoms are not wiped or covered. For me, I would find the thought revolting just due to those facts and irrespective of catching anything. I wouldnāt get into bed with any dirty areas of myself unwashed, so couldnāt imagine sharing a bed with an animal or human who was any different
I couldnāt - but to each his own š
