So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

Germany v Portugal to draw
Nigeria to win
USA to win

I'm doing this early as I'm out all day so won't be able to do whatever bonus game GN has dreamed up for us.

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 16-Jun-14 09:22:27

Well done everyone! Yesterday's scores:

2-1 to Switzerland

3-0 to France

2-1 to Argentina

And our updated leaderboard:

Pittcity 10

kittylester 6
thatbags 2
Charleygirl 2
GrannyCaz1 1

Today's fixtures are:

Germany v Portugal 5pm ITV

Iran v Nigeria 8pm BBC1

Ghana v USA 11pm BBC1

And for the bonus points - tell us an interesting fact about a country from each fixture.

Pittcity Mon 16-Jun-14 10:11:21

Portugal WIN
- FACT Portugal is named after its 2nd largest city, Porto, which is world-renowned for being the home of Port wine. I would recommend a visit as I didn't know there were so many varieties of Port.

Nigeria WIN
- FACT The President of Nigeria is called Goodluck Jonathan.

Ghana v USA DRAW
- FACT Ghana lies on the Greenwich Meridian and so the time there is Greenwich Mean Time.

Maggiemaybe Mon 16-Jun-14 10:48:31

Germany v Portugal Germany to win

FACT: Wikipaedia lists 39 recognised varieties of German sausage and we had trouble finding a simple currywurst in Berlin the other week (not fancy enough for the young ‘uns, we were told).

Iran v Nigeria Nigeria to win

FACT: Iran has the largest proven gas reserves in the world

Ghana v USA Ghana to win

FACT: Three of Ghana’s radio stations are called Peace FM, Joy FM and Happy FM

This is proving very educational, Gransnet. I shall be a mine of useless information by the end of it and head-hunted by the best pub quiz teams in the area.

Germany to win

Interesting fact

The last time we all went to Germany we ate sausages that were 'off' and all 7 of us took turns to use the one loo in our suite of rooms.

Nigeria to win

Interesting fact

My 'spare daughter' is married to a Nigerian and I think she wishes she wasn't!

USA to win

Interesting fact

The reason my 'spare daughter' wishes she wasn't married is that her MiL lives in Ghana and is trying to persuade her son to go to live there.

None of those facts are really interesting to the rest of the world, are they? grin but I'm going out in a minute and had to think quickly!

Tegan Mon 16-Jun-14 12:48:15

Germany Portugal draw
Nigeria win
USA win
Interesting facts
I've never been to Portugal
I've never ben to Nigeria
I've never been to the USA][like Kitty I'm a bit pushed for time blush but unlike kitty my facts are totally boring and hers are really funny!].

kittylester Mon 16-Jun-14 15:31:30

Thank you Tegan grin

Charleygirl Mon 16-Jun-14 16:03:40

Portugal, Nigeria and USA to win.

Madeline McCann was kidnapped in Portugal

Like Tegan I have never been to Nigeria or the USA

Happy2Be Mon 16-Jun-14 16:53:35

Germany, USA and Nigeria all to win their matches.

Germany - the first country to adopt Daylight Saving

USA - the third largest country in the world

Nigeria - there are more than 250 different ethnic groups in Nigeria

Pittcity Mon 16-Jun-14 19:01:22

After the first match I feel like I've just eaten a dozen yogurts - totally Mullered! football

Tegan Mon 16-Jun-14 20:23:10

I'd been looking forward to that game all day; was so disappointed with the way Portugal played sad. Fell asleep watching Argentina last night [found that a bit boring as well].

Today's fixtures are:

Belgium v Algeria 5pm ITV

Brazil v Mexico 8pm BBC1

Tegan Tue 17-Jun-14 10:07:48

Belguim win
Brazil win
Russia win
I really can't write poems,
It's never been a skill sad.
To find a word that rhymes with Algeria
Is throwing me into fits of hysteria sad.....

Tegan Tue 17-Jun-14 10:09:30

kittylester Tue 17-Jun-14 10:29:25

" I'm off to the cafe for a Belgian Bun and some coffee from Brazil,
Hurry up I've got to Russia cos the cafe's at the top of the hill!!"

grin cupcake brew

Happy2Be Tue 17-Jun-14 11:40:14

Belgium v Algeria - a draw

Brazil to win

Russia to win

Does a limerick count as a poem?

There was a young lady from Korea
Who wanted to give her team a big cheer
But when it came to the match
Their goalie couldn't catch
And all that was left was a tear sad

Happy2Be Tue 17-Jun-14 11:49:06

There was an old lady from Brazil
You could say she was over the hill
But when her team came onto the pitch
She developed a peculiar itch
And had to go back on the pill!

There was a young man from Algeria
He felt confident and in no way inferior
But his team couldn't score
In fact the gane was a bore
So he went to the pub to get beerier
