So - rules are there are no rules, no insider footballer info needed - it's just who you think will win, lose or draw - like Paul the octopus in the last World Cup - this is using the brilliance of gransnetters (and CariGransnet's goldfish - named Goldie, of course) to predict who will win the World Cup.

Every morning we post the fixtures for that day for you to post your predictions.

You'll get a point for each correct prediction (win, lose or draw) and for those with a competitive streak, there will be a bonus points option suggested for the day, so you 'fancy' up your entry <ooh>

Every morning we will update our leaderboard, however you're more than welcome to join in at whatever stage. Obviously there's less chance of winning if you join in half-way, unless you're a pro and take part in the bonus rounds!

There will be a mystery prize for the gransnetters with the most points at the end of the World Cup (13 July).

Let the games commence! Post below if you'll be taking part from Thursday.

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 19-Jun-14 10:49:45

Right then! Yesterday's scores were as follows:

Netherlands 3 - Australia 2

Chile 2 - Spain 0 (shocker!!)

Croatia 4 - Cameroon 0

And the leader board looks like this, this morning:

Maggiemaybe - 21
Pittcity - 21
Kittylester - 19
Happy2Be - 18
Tegan - 17
rubysong - 15
Charleygirl - 8
thatbags - 4
Grannycaz1 - 1

Tonight's nail-biters will be:

Colombia v Ivory Coast 5pm on BBC1

Japan v Greece 11pm on BBC1

Uruguay v England 8pm on ITV

To clinch a few bonus points, just give us the title of a film that's set in one country per fixture, for example, Rebecca in England; Captain Corelli in Greece and Romancing the Stone in Colombia. Place your bets!

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 19-Jun-14 10:58:49

Finally, let's just consult our crystal ba- errm, goldfish:

We think - specially given his/her 100% record so far - that he/she is on the money again. Both teams likely to be cautious after their shock defeats (ok, so ours wasn't a shock) so a draw may well be the result. Not enough for England of course <prays for a miracle and pretends to be Dutch>

Tegan Thu 19-Jun-14 11:10:45

Oh I can do the film bit
Colombia; Love in the Time of Cholera
Greece; Ill Met by Moonlight [does Crete count as Greece; it's an amazing story/film]
England; that has to be Kes. ]
I'll think about the non England games later.

Columbia v Ivory Coast, a draw
Japan v Greece, a draw
And England to win! smile wine football

It took a while to find a film set in (on?) the Ivory Coast, but I found mention of one called Burn It Up Djassa, which actually sounds really interesting.

For Japan, I was just going to post Lost in Translation – ugh, I hated it. I'll go with The Ring original instead.

And for England, on a football theme – Bend it like Beckham. Let’s hope someone on the England team manages that tonight!

Switzerland v France 8pm ITV

Honduras v Ecuador 11pm ITV

If you want to go the extra mile to get a few bonus points, today we're asking you to tell us a - not so obvious - tourist attraction for one of the countries per fixture. (no Eiffel Tower's please! grin)

kittylester Fri 20-Jun-14 10:15:47

Morning - my predictions are :

Italy to win [pretty please]

France to win

Ecuador to win

My not so obvious tourist destinations are:

Ravenna in Italy, is known for it's mosaics.

The Copan ruins, in Honduras, near to the Guatemalan Border

The Miniatures Museum in Lyons

Maggiemaybe Fri 20-Jun-14 12:52:18

Italy, France and Ecuador to win as well, please.

Two tourist attractions that we loved:

For Italy: The Crypt in the Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini Church in Rome, is decorated with the bones of over 4,000 Capuchin friars, collected between the years of 1528 and 1870. Proper gruesome! shock

For Switzerland: The Château de Chillon is on an island on Lake Geneva, near Montreux. Byron’s poem, The Prisoner Of Chillon, is about a monk who was imprisoned there from 1530 to 1536. You can see Byron’s name carved on a pillar in the dungeons, which are cut into the rock the castle’s built on.

I’ve never been to Honduras or Ecuador, but apparently if you visit the Ahuano community in Napo in Ecuador you can learn how to hunt using blowpipes, and how to summon birds.

rubysong Fri 20-Jun-14 13:59:42

Italy, France and Ecuador all to win.

Places to go:
Italy, the villages of Cinque Terra
France, the aquarium at Last Rochelle
Ecuador, La Villa del Hombre (art museum near Quito)

rubysong Fri 20-Jun-14 14:01:56

That should have been La Capilla del Hombre.
(Sorry, that's me swiping and not proof reading)

Pittcity Fri 20-Jun-14 14:38:08

Italy (Forza Italia!!) and France to win and Honduras v Ecuador to draw (just to be different!)

DD1 has recently been to a wedding at Castello Doria, Portovenere It is a beautiful 11/12th century defensive castle overlooking the fishing village and sea in the north east of Italy. Photo is one of the views from the castle.

Roquefort-sur-Soulzon in Southern France is well worth a visit for the Cambalou cheese caves and the visitor centre which illustrates the process of making Roquefort cheese and offers guests a chance to sample and purchase the product. In fact the whole region is a foodies delight!

I'm another who has never been to Honduras or Ecuador but can use Google - I would love to see some of the Mayan Temples, such as the ones in Copán,Honduras.

Charleygirl Fri 20-Jun-14 16:25:25

Italy v Costa Rica

2-1 They had jolly well better beat them

Switerland v France

3-2

Honduras v Equador

2-2

Italy- Campione d'Italia-part of Italy but based in Switerland
Costa Rica San Jose capital

Switzerland Monte Rosa highest mountain peak
France Provence- beautiful lavender fields

Honduras Tegacigalpa, known as Tegus is the capital
Equador Quito is the capital

My knowledge is rather sketchy

hildajenniJ Fri 20-Jun-14 16:31:11

Italy to win, France to win, Honduras to win (hopefully) grin

Maggiemaybe Sat 21-Jun-14 11:38:21

I'll tackle any bonus point tasks this evening, wine permitting.

GigiGransnet (GNHQ) Sat 21-Jun-14 12:16:08

Yesterday's scores were as follows:

Argentina v Iran
Nigeria v Bosnia Hercegovina
Germany v Ghana

For an extra point today share a picture of something in your house that you brought back from holiday. Preferably from a different country but we will accept a tea towel from Norwich at a push smile And if you can't upload a photo just tell us about it and where it came from.

Good luck everyone!

kittylester Sat 21-Jun-14 12:50:19

Right

Argentina to win
Nigeria to win
Germany to win

I have a small statue of David that we bought back from our honeymoon in Rome (nearly 44 years ago). I really love it but as it's only 6" high, and most people will have seen the original, it is hardly worth taking a photo!

Pittcity Sat 21-Jun-14 12:55:20

Argentina, Nigeria and Germany to win!!

The photo is of what we thought was Limoncello that we bought in Montenegro (big bottle), but it turns out that it isn't and that I am allergic to it. sad The small bottle is real Italian Limoncello that DD2 bought back from wedding mentioned in my last post. It is going in the freezer now and I will be having a shot this evening..yum!

PS. Castello Doria, Portovenere is in North West Italy not east....must really get round to learning my left from my right!!

rubysong Sat 21-Jun-14 13:13:19

Argentina and Germany to win, Boz & Herz/Nigeria to draw.

Carving of a beautiful lady we brought back from Kenya many years ago.

Charleygirl Sat 21-Jun-14 13:47:19

Argentina, Germany and Nigeria to win.

A hideous "Spanish" lady ornament given to me about 45 years ago when we were on holiday in Spain. It has been at the bottom of a wardrobe for that length of time. I must dispose of it NOW! Thanks for the reminder!
