I think it's sad. Of course, we don't know the woman's character, but Elton should have some compassion whatever. Reflects very badly on him.

Well he supports her financially and 2 sides to everything. I read article yesterday and felt his mum was very dignified certainly not slagging him off.
Elton does have reputation for fall outs but agree at age 90 his mu does deserve some. Respect surely ? She blames his partner.

Well done janeainsworth I knew one of you clever ladies would be able to do a link to Elton John's mum's story. I couldn't even manage to try and fail on Saturday; wouldn't know where to begin. Note to self, learn how to use my laptop properly.

From what I've read so far, she has a dignity not apparent in her son, I mean "The Bitch is Back", she's your 90 year old mother Elton John who hopes you're as happy as she is; shame on you.

What is the answer? We have a 90 year old mother and grandmother whose been ignored, apart from her son's financial support which is nothing in comparison to his vast wealth, for 7 years and doesn't and probably never will know her only grand children. She's given a frank, not paid for and as far as we can tell, honest interview and is helping to bring in to the public domain this 'silent epidemic' of abandonment and betrayal and yet will be regarded by some as 'washing her dirty linen in public'.

He can always give his own dignified, without receiving a fee interview in response. Perhaps he could begin that with a title of another one of his many songs "Sorry Seems to be The Hardest Word".

We saw elton perform last year he is still brilliant but he does not have much finesse ended concert very abruptly.

I do have personal experience of some of the more sensational Press and! IMO, they'll write (obviously) whatever's necessary to sell papers, and apologise later.

We don't know any more than what has been printed, as you say it's very complicated, but clearly these unedifying public articles are hardly going to result in an end to the estrangement.

It's the children I feel for, hopefully they're too young to know about it.

All very sad, apparently she contacted the papers first....... I would have hoped that most mothers would consider their son's happiness first, even if you don't approve. She seems happy enough for him to pay all her bills....

To be fair she supported him all his life and most of us would find that difficult given eltons lifestyle etc. She has every right to tell her version of events but agree unlikely to end estrangement who knows may shame him.

Perhaps not loopylou, maybe the Daily Mail is taking steps to bring out in to the public forum this phenomena of children who are abandoning their parents. Wasn't it a journalist from this paper that requested volunteers to talk about the detrimental affects that this treatment by their children has had on their health?

She may not be looking for an end to this estrangement, I seem to remember in the interview printed on Saturday that she said she didn't know what she'd do if he suddenly appeared at her door; that she'd found happiness and hoped he was as happy as she was. Perhaps she simply wanted to speak publicly about their estrangement while she still could.

What she said about his husband was wrong but the last words he spoke to her were to say 'I hate you'. She says they were close until he came into her son's life; been there (but in our case it's a she, not a he), got the 'T' shirt and the emotional scars to prove it. It may make uncomfortable reading for some, but for those of us in the same predicament it's a little light shining in the darkness.

This has been going on for 7 years, she is 90 and time must be of the essence. He might pay her bills and have sent flowers for her 90th birthday to try and appease his own guilt.

I love his music too and as you say jinglbellsfrocks'The Bitch is Back' was about himself, but to open a concert with a song he rarely performs at the same time the first installment of his mother's interview is publicised, well I'm not a believer in coincidences and certainly not in this one.

It would be nice if most children took a little time to consider their parents' happiness, even if they don't approve. Sadly, this isn't always the case.

It must be so, so hard Smileless, and because I'm not in that situation, I can only hope that someday there will be reconciliations for all of you.

Well been busy up till today, really feeling sad, should be doing an Easter egg hunt with my GC, I would do it for my C too, even though they are adults but we would have such fun and then a lovely Easter family dinner. My mum & dad have passed away & we would always spend Easter & Xmas together along with my C, we all used to be so close & happy, now just like brush weed rolling
My ND is away for the long weekend, I've spoken on the phone and with my sister too, but haven't seen one family member over the Easter holidays so really feeling it today All the happy memories of years gone by, where I would work really hard making everything lovely for Xmas & Easter, lovely home cooked dinners with everyone invited, to this today, just brush weed rolling :'(
Sorry to hear about your tummy bug Celebgran at least your home and it didn't happen whilst on your holiday and spoil it all. Can I have all your Easter eggs, as you can't eat them . Wish you & hubby better

Gra gone work I have list jobs, got be careful we were so ill never been so violently sick it must been food poisoning but my client thurs the bedridden one had diaorreahea she offered for me to go but I felt sorry and helped change her nighty as carer wasn't due for ages. I've been trying to get on here since Friday yes it's true. I wanted to come on and wish you all a 'Happy Easter' but every time I tried to get on to Gransnet Forums I was plagued by adverts, warnings about viruses etc that I couldn't get to shut down so in the end did what I know you shouldn't ever do, but works anyway, I turned my laptop off.

Same thing happened on Saturday and yesterday and I was beginning to wonder if I had a gremlin, then I remembered that she would never dare show her face here again, so put it down to bad luck together with my being a technophobe of course.

Sorry that you've been feeling sad and lonely Yogagirl, these holidays aren't easy are they, too many 'happy families' about. We've been busy pottering about in the garden, not that we can do any planting until we come back from Florida but all the fencing's been treated and the decking and we've got our 2 water features up and running together with the third one we bought yesterday. Yep, we love our water features.

I did think this morning though that if things were different they'd maybe had come for dinner yesterday and we'd have done a little Easter Egg hunt for our grand son but hey ho, such is life.

It was lovely here yesterday, warm and sunny so we thought we'd have a BBQ today, first one of the year, we love our BBQ's more than our water features, so anyway as expected, it's cloudy and cool, very cool so I thing we'll go out for tea instead.
