I did this after only 5 years of a bad marriage. The relief of finally making the move was incredible. It was difficult initially but I got through. I was then married to a wonderful man for over 30 years until he died and have found love again in my 60s. Life can be so good with someone who loves and respects you and you love and respect. Well done and good luck with the new home and your future.

Well done deedee. I too am in your situation and also felt a failure but like others have said on here, we are not. We have finally taken back control of our lives and though it is very hard, we will both get through it. Xx

UPDATE....I'VE ONLY GONE AND GOT IT!!!!!
I've had a call this morning to let me know the bungalow is mine if I want it. Excited is an understatement. I don't care that I am starting from scratch because it will be all mine. Charity shops here I come ? And I know my family will help me even if it's just with support. I haven't got a date yet because they haven't had the keys back yet. She did laugh when I said I've been and peeped through the windows...twice ?. I do hope this gives someone hope that if I can do it so can they. You are stronger than you think. I know I am. Trust in yourself and your family/support group. Be extremely honest when you apply for housing/benefits because they really are there to help if you ask. I can't wait to sleep in a bed lol. But I really appreciate my family right now. I couldn't have done this without them and would probanly just have put up and shut up and spent the rest of my life in misery. Anyway, enough waffle from me. Sooòooooo excited ???

Have a look on freecycle and facebook marketplace as loads of free stuff comes up or see if you can get some help of the furniture bank? Ours is really good and very supportive in other ways.

I think you’ve been very brave and I applaud you. Sometimes it’s easier to stay through fear of change. Think yourself forward when you’ve moved in and you have peace of mind and a life of your own. Don’t look back you’ve taken the first step I wish you well. I really do.

Thank you so much everyone I really appreciate it. He's tried to contact me but I've ignored his calls. He's very good at playing the victim but I'm having non of it. My kids (35 and 36 lol) aren't telling him anything so he's not aware what's happening. They obviously see him and offer their support to both because he is still their dad but they also know the issues I've had and are 100% behind me. Xx

Oh DeeDee how wonderful! I too left an abusive marriage many years ago and walked away with nothing. My son was very young and there was no internet or Facebook market place in those days so we struggled to furnish our new home. But we both look back on those days and our ‘happy house’ so fondly. We didn’t even have plates, used round lids off margarine tubs. Please keep us updated, we’re all proud of and excited for you. You will have little wobbles but we’ll all talk you through them.
