I take my grandson to a playgroup every Tuesday.
Last week I met a man who was there with his granddaughter.
When he heard I was French , he said his best friend is married to a french lady too and he decided he was going to introduce us by text .
A couple of days later , I received a friendly message from french lady and we have agreed to meet for a coffee on Friday.
I am quite anxious about this because I find it hard to meet new people and this feels very much arranged ´.
I am not going to cancel and I hope it will go well but has anybody got any ideas how we move on from first ´date ´ , assuming of course that we both want to ?
And how will I know she is keen on carrying on relationship or vice-versa ?

I'm really glad you went and met up. While I am all for caution and vigilance I couldn't believe some of the posts I was reading.

I would have gone to meet her as well - making sure we met in a very public place, in broad daylight and I was able to leave if I felt the need to. Here's hoping you have a found an interesting new friend wine

Delighted to read your update and to hear that you’ve made a new friend. Enjoy each other’s company and speaking in your native tongue.

No wonder there are so many lonely people living out sad lives.

The first meeting was in a playgroup which would normally be in a village hall or large enough space for tots to run around in. It wasn’t a playground with random strangers around.

He is obviously a kind hearted man who wanted to help his friend’s wife who was obviously lonely.

I introduced two Norwegian friends and it meant a huge deal to them. Even though both of them lived in England for decades and spoke good English, communicating directly in their own language freed them up in ways most of us haven’t had to experience.

Sadly my dog walking friend was diagnosed with a terminal cancer and found great comfort in hearing Norwegian spoken gently to her in her final hours.

Such a shame when people shut the world out totally and suck the joy out of living.
