He explains the weird attitude to Christianity many people have today. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/11510368/Christianity-now-written-off-as-fixation-with-sky-pixie-Michael-Gove.html

Found it. a pleasant thread until the bumptious ones spoiled it

I think you should worry soon. Other religions in this country now are given more respect than Christianity. And the secularists are becoming very aggressive. I'm not at all sure Christianity will survive much longer.

I think the article is spot on about the way churches are today. There is a lot of outreach going on. That could be the salvation of the Church.

It's not bumptious to enjoy poetry of all sorts. It was such a shame that that thread petered out under the onslaught. It was a chance to do what the internet does best - share ideas with people you would otherwise never meet and who share your interest. And it was shaping up to be really interesting with a new poem to think about each week.

Mishap Fri 03-Apr-15 18:26:10

Oh - was that you jings?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Apr-15 18:27:39

shock grin.

As if you didn't know! grin

There was no flippin' "onslaught". I was responding to a beautiful Christmas poem. No room for normal feelings on GN? Must we all do as teacher says?

One answer to that. But I won't give it. Not today.

Mishap Fri 03-Apr-15 18:31:45

Well - since you say it was you then that gives me the opportunity ask why you did not want the thread to continue giving pleasure to other Gransnetters. I find that very puzzling.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Apr-15 18:32:40

I didn't stop you continuing it with a poem every week. Why didn't you post one? Do it now. Display your superior sensitivities. grin

Mishap Fri 03-Apr-15 18:35:19

You don't have to have superior sensitivities to enjoy poetry.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Apr-15 18:35:37

Go on. Post a poem. Any one will do.

Perhaps one about Christian love, generosity and forgiveness- in the spirit of Easter Friday jingl.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Apr-15 18:53:28

Yes. That would be nice. smile

I've posted one for you Mishap. smile

Wasn't it Michael Gove who gave a bible to every school?

absent Fri 03-Apr-15 19:24:18

I think it was durhamjen but I doubt if they were personal gifts from him.

durhamjen Fri 03-Apr-15 19:31:16

No, they weren't, and I think I remember heads complained about the money which could have been better spent.
His next idea to make us more religious will be, as I said earlier, to put bibles in food banks, open at the appropriate sermon, to make them all work harder for their food.

absent Fri 03-Apr-15 19:34:06

durhamjen Well you couldn't just have some chap going around dishing out free loaves and fishes all over the place could you?

durhamjen Fri 03-Apr-15 19:44:40

No, that would be too much. They'd have to listen to him spouting all sorts of stuff, too, to get fed.

rosequartz Sat 04-Apr-15 00:01:31

I suppose there used to be bibles in every school when I was young - and hymn books too, in the days when there was a morning assembly every day.
