Early this morning, on the World Service, I heard the voice of a six year old boy crying out to the doctors treating him, "Don't let me die! Don't bury me!". The doctors, trying to reassure him, laughed and said, "You're not going to die".

It was in the Yemen. The little boy had just seen a three year old, put into the ground. He was wounded himself shortly afterwards.

He died. The doctors were unable to save him.

If you have heard that young voice on a video on the internet, you will agree with me.

JGL if you were in a Muslin country posting such inflammatory statements, you would have had your fingers chopped off!

Think twice before posting please

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 25-Oct-15 10:21:23

Yes. But I am in the United Kingdom. Where we have freedom of speech.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 25-Oct-15 10:29:39

I have asked for that post to be deleted. I appreciate the fact that not all Muslims are of the kind that believe in Sharia Law, and such. And the Muslim religion is, when properly adhered to, as decent as Christianity. Although I do, of course, prefer Christianity.

AnnieBach thank you for clarifying that for me. I had a feeling I'd got the wrong end of the stick. smile

It's an interesting question about Christian missionaries going to Muslim countries. We've all seen incidents of kidnapping or killings of Christian aid workers on the news and as far as I can remember, this has happened in turbulent countries where extremists groups or terrorists are usually - but not always - involved. Of course, it's not always Muslim countries involved.

Christian missionaries do go to Muslim countries, but not usually to try and convert anyone, more to do good works connected with education or health care, that sort of thing. One of the problems has been the suspicion that some surreptitious effort to try and convert people is going on and sometimes the presence of a bible can be enough to get someone in trouble with the authorities.

It has only just occurred to me that perhaps many aid workers are the modern world equivalent of missionaries.

Luckygirl Sun 25-Oct-15 17:43:44

And how might we feel about muslim missionaries coming here?!

Ana Sun 25-Oct-15 18:02:34

I'm not sure why you should think that, Wilma. I'd have thought aid workers have enough to do without trying to convert anyone to Christianity - and I don't suppose for one minute that all or even most aid workers are Christians or followers of any particular faith.

There is no Santa Claus, tooth fairy , leprechauns , fairies at the bottom of the garden and no God/god/allah/yaweh etc. You are entitled to your views these are mine.

rosequartz Sun 25-Oct-15 22:48:34

There is no Santa Claus, tooth fairy shock
I can't believe it!!

Ana Sun 25-Oct-15 22:59:28

Take no notice, rosequartz, you and I know they are real! smile

rosequartz Sun 25-Oct-15 23:06:42

I was really really upset by dorsetpennt's post.

All that time I have spent telling the DGC they're real and I never ever tell fibbers .... sad now

Alea Sun 25-Oct-15 23:08:10

Who was it who said "The year you stop believing in Santa Claus is the year you start getting underwear"??

Anniebach Sun 25-Oct-15 23:15:50

There are faries, no way would I have searched through a wood with my five year old looking for their mini castles or taken sleeping blankets to spend a night there to see their wings glisten in the light of a full moon

Alea Sun 25-Oct-15 23:27:42

Or was it "socks"?

Maggiemaybe Sun 25-Oct-15 23:40:38

No Santa Claus or fairies????? Whaaaat????? Who on earth told you that, dorsetpennt?

I'm not so sure about the leprechauns, but maybe they're just in Ireland?

Iam64 Mon 26-Oct-15 07:39:19

Shocking post dorsetpennt, it's bad enough to think those things, worse to speak them, but to put them in writing is beyond the pale.

rosequartz Mon 26-Oct-15 10:16:35

Leprechauns definitely exist. They are little bearded Irish men who get up to mischief. One of them appears on our telly every Friday night. He is very naughty but can be great fun grin

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 26-Oct-15 11:02:28

Ana I think you are out of date about what a modern missionary does. Many aid workers are employed by religious aid organisations. These days a missionary is often a person sent by a church into an area to simply help vulnerable people, to carry out educational or health care work, or relief work, etc,. Their faith inspires their actions. Undoubtedly some aim to convert people to a religion, but for decades the aim of many missionaries is to simply help people who are in need. An actions speak louder than words approach. Faith, hope and charity.

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 26-Oct-15 11:08:19

PS I have a tiny pale green wooden door in a skirting board that the fairies use to come and sprinkle fairy dust on the furniture.

Anniebach Mon 26-Oct-15 11:16:39

We have a convent here and for years the nuns are sent by the mother house in Ireland to teach in their schools in Africa . Also three of our Anglican priests from our diocese have left to work in Africa.not to preach or convert, they are helping to build homes

Women do not make wars

Women make babies.

Falconbird Mon 26-Oct-15 12:09:19

Just had to come in here. My mum always used to say there was no hell because hell was here on earth. She used to annoy me when I was a teenager and enjoying life - but now I'm older - well I can see what she was saying, not just personal experience but all the dreadful things happening in the world.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 26-Oct-15 12:09:48

Yeah. And men kill babies in wars. So piss off.
