The Church f Scotland general Assembly voted today t allow same sex marriages in church .Is this "moving with the times" a way to increase attendances and membership of the church? Or a step to far .In my circle of friends are several gay couples who work in the church and for the church ,most have married but by regitrars and I knw they will be delighted that the church will at last bless their union.

The whole debate seems to have gone off at several tangents since last night. I have to say I am disappointed but that is the way of things in social media- shallow and fleeting. I thought it might be different here but I was wrong.

I suppose since we are not continuing because as has been said, no one is really interested in the actual debate/discussion, I can declare my own interest.

In my work I actually deal with the issues being raised here. I have been involved over many years with the issue in synod and on committees. I have even had some small works published on the matter. Much of what I was talking about is my specialist area. I just thought that instead of the stuffy drawing rooms and corridors I usually debate in I would have a go here.

Clearly I was wrong. I guess I was a bit bored and thought it would be nice to chat to different people. I picked the subject as one I have some background in and a real passion for. Nothing more really.

I wish you all a good evening. Thank you for the opportunity of saying something anyway.

No, I still have not said which part of the church I belong to , what my personal views are, nor will I. Please do not try to double guess me or suggest baiting. I dont do that. I just like to talk to people genuinely and honestly.

How does anyone know that this God of the bible (Old Testament) has been written up quite wrongly by the priests of the time. Just made into a god of their liking.

I will add this, nothing more. People who hold a Christian religious faith would say that they know what God wants and thinks through successive layers of what they call revelation.

Its off topic anyway unless you want a general theological discussion ( and a local Priest might be better placed to talk about it one to one if you are interested)

No! Of course not! Just saying they might start a bit of a think tank on the subject. Perhaps even open up their minds a bit.

The "Think Tanks" are going on in all denominations. It takes place in conferences and committees in stuffy rooms and sometimes by e mail and other communications too.

When I started here a page or so back I mentioned the decision of the Methodist Church on the matter in question. That was the pronouncement of the "Think Tanks" that have been going on for a while in Methodism .

The C Of E is currently in the middle of its latest and it will publish next year. However, the debate is causing a lot of friction and it is suggested that there may well be a split between the orthodox and evangelical wings and the progressive wings.

Different denominations are taking different approaches . Methodism has declared that it holds the Biblical line . I believe the Baptist Union has said something similar. All have their "Think Tanks"

Jesus tended to say what we should do rather than shouldn’t. He’s quite clear in the gospels, about one man being with one woman. Everything else is sin/ adultery. In Romans, Paul talks about the “error” of men being lustful to other men, and the same for women. God was clearly against it in the Old Testament, and Jesus confirms His wishes in the New. Jesus is God after all.
