A good friend was an alternative care provider for a major league football team. Her modalities included aromatherapy, shiatsu, reflexology, etc. All care was one with a physician monitor. One day we talked about crystals. Her thought was they were effective for someone with a need to feel inclusion in care....much like carrying a rabbit's foot for luck. Sorry, try your GP for treatment.

I agree with Marydoll find a good homeopath , its easier nowadays with internet reviews .Ignore the sceptics give it a try .I've recommended it to dozens of folk over the years and nobody said it was a waste of time of money .Good luck with it,let us know how you get on .

There is a lot of research on Mind over Matter which does support the idea that the mind can have an impact on health result. Obviously for chronic conditions professional advice must be sought. DH was totally against anything other than conventional medicine until his GP recommended acupuncture for a persistent shoulder condition. 2 treatments from her and it was alleviated.

I get the feeling the OP is really in need of support.

I personally don't believe in the crystal healing thing, but I do feel that there is a place for homeopathy, when conventional medicine has failed.
Also, I'm a firm believer in the healing properties of plants, which is why I have a herb garden.
In the winter, my kitchen window sill is full of herbs to compensate for the sparse outside ones.

As long as the patient is under medical supervision, what is there to lose?

Roey1948, the crystals won't cure you, but if you find comfort in them, go for it!. Healing our minds is as important as our physical health.
Ironically, there is a shop next to my GPs surgery, which sells healing crystals. ?

A quick google search recommends citrine for diabetes and rose quartz for heart condition

Why not try? They are going to look great on you and as long as medical treatment is in place for your conditions, I dont see the harm.

During an extremely painful bout of sinusitis, no meds I took helped at all. My dentist told me of a homeopathy remedy which worked for him. I was very sceptical, but willing to try anything to stop the pain, I bought Kali Bich at our local homeopathic surgery and was prepared try it for a week not thinking for a minute it would work but two days later I was pain free.

It also worked for a few people I passed my experience on to and they also benefitted from this remedy.

paddyanne, my sister in law went to Jan de Vries for years and found he was able to help her when conventiional medicine failed.

I used to walk by his house with the pram, when my children were small. He had an excellent reputation among the people of Troon.

I've used homeopathy several times over the years and always had good results. My GP surgery has a practising homeopath and has for decades.I used Jan De Vries for years for both acupuncture and homeopathic medicine ,my MIL and her mother used him too.The hospital on Great Western Road has been there for a long time and has always been used by NHS patients .I can only go by our experience and that is it works.Even on a small baby ...who had no idea what the meds were the GP gave him

i noticed that the homeopathic hosp in queen square, london has also changed its name to integrative medicine.

Marydoll People with psychosomatic illnesses can respond very well to homeopathy, crystals, and other forms of placebo.
That may be why the homeopathic hospital is still funded (if indeed it is) through the NHS.

Esspee, this may clarify things for you. As far as I can remember, it was originally a homeopathic hospital, but now offers a range of holistic services.

I didn't offer an opinion on the efficacy or not of homepathic medication. I was providing a piece of information, that such a hospital existed.

roey1948, I just have to think that you must be joking!

Yes, I do know that having faith or firm belief in something (anything really) can have remarkable benefits. Mind and body work closely together.

Therefore, I see no harm in complementary therapies for minor ailments. Diabetes and heart failure though? Life threatening conditions needing a specialist consultant!

Well...... I was always in the "homeopathy is bunkum" camp until I hit the menopause in my 30s. My GP would not accept that I was menopausal because I was "too young to even be thinking of it", but the hot flushes and night sweats were real enough. I was recommended to see a homeopath who took copious amounts of information from me, some that I recall seemed irrelevant. She prescribed just 2 tiny little sepia tablets and charged me £25, which, 35 years ago was a lot of money. I remember feeling that I'd been had. But from the day I took that 2nd sepia tablet, the night sweats and hot flushes reduced dramatically. I still had the odd one, but nothing at all like before. Maybe it was a placebo, who knows, but it did work for me. As for crystals... they're just woo.

Hello rory. I believe Obsidian is meant to be for health. Its black with whitish speckles. I only know that because I once lived in Glastonbury, Somerset. Where there are crystal shops all along the high street. Burley in Hampshire also has crystal shops in the village. I think Burley had something to do with witches in the past. Good luck

I do believe that reflexology and acupuncture can promote wellbeing.
A cure? Perhaps not but used alongside conventional medicine, some practices do have a part to play.

Esspee Wed 23-Sept-20 22:33:24

Regarding homeopathy, it has repeatedly been shown to be no better than a placebo in true scientific trials. I refer those of you who believe in this form of magic to the NHS page on the subject and the NICE guidelines.

Alegrias Wed 23-Sept-20 20:53:57

I'm really surprised that the NHS in Scotland are still funding homeopathy, they don't fund it down south.

I have a good friend who is a homeopath. She's a very nice person and spends a lot of time chatting to her clients, listening to their problems and letting them know that she can help them. Then they take whatever potion she advises them to take, and sometimes they feel better afterwards. But I think its more to do with the chatting and empathy than with any actual physical healing. Or, that they might have felt better anyway.

Crystal therapy works as a placebo. In other words it is nonsense, much like homeopathy. If your problem is in your mind and you believe the crystals will help you then they may do just that.
Anyone who has diabetes or heart failure needs to see a medical practitioner who will prescribe medication which has been scientifically proven to work.

Exactly.

B9exchange Wed 23-Sept-20 20:37:22

Our local hospice provides complementary therapies for those patients who would like to try them alongside conventional medicine. But not as treatment, more for relaxation and stress relief. However they do use Reiki, and during the pandemic have been doing this over Zoom - how does that work? confused

Marydoll Wed 23-Sept-20 20:30:36

We have an NHS homeopathic hospital in Glasgow, it has now changed it's name to NHS Centre for Integrative Care.

If it's a lot of nonsense, why are the NHS funding it?

Shrub Wed 23-Sept-20 20:02:50

I know plants need trace elements to grow well, but that's the first time I've heard it called Homeopathy.

Callistemon Wed 23-Sept-20 19:13:20

I have a couple of crystals by the side of my pc, but that is just because I like them.

You need to see your GP again, roey

BlueBelle Wed 23-Sept-20 19:09:47

I m afraid I m a non believer in most of the alternatives although they can be gentle and not harmful and comforting if you believe in them
I have tried them and never felt a thing although I ve been ask can you feel the heat etc no I ve never noticed anything

NannyC2 Wed 23-Sept-20 18:55:04

No, sorry. Your GP has the best advice I believe.

Anniebach Wed 23-Sept-20 17:17:18

I have used homeopathy since the 70’s, but not in place of
consulting a GP.

I use to drive from Wales to a village in the Cotswolds to see
a practicing GP who was also a homeopath.

I held rose quartz during grieving , the colour drained from them .
