Faeries and Nature Elementals

There are a lot of fairies in my garden. They keep digging up my bulbs (or are they mice with head torches?)

....or squirrels with swag bags??

Lemongrove - Lots of people believe in faeries, little people and natural spirits. It's impossible to prove whether or not they exist just as it's impossible to prove any spiritual belief. That's the nature of faith. To you they are myths and superstitions. To me they are real.

I do believe that The Borrowers are real and resident in my house.

I saw Arrietty once, scurrying away carrying my book of special Christmas stamps.

Lemongrove surely myths and superstition reveal to us individually the nature of our human condition. Some are able to transcend into a higher state of consciousness, they see visions hear voices feel energies beyond normal apprehension. How wonderful to posses this cognitive, extra sensory ability.

I’m beginning to understand the meaning of the expression ‘away with the fairies’.

It doesn’t sound very ‘Einstein’ ( the quote) but if it were indeed his quote, then it suggests to me that if you read enough fairy stories to children eventually they begin to use their reason and logic and start to question those dubious tales.

I have said thank you to my car on many occasions ( in case it’s listening and is inclined to believe my flattery.)

I do that too Lemon. I'm so grateful when wretched thing starts up that l actually thank it for deigning to do so!

To each his own vampirequeen but will just point out that many people around the world believe their lake contains a monster/that they have been abducted by aliens and experimented upon and returned to Earth/that they will be taken up by a gigantic spacecraft and saved on Judgement Day/that Donald Trump can save them from black magic and dark doings generally/ etc etc.

Lemongrove, I do believe saying thank you to your car is good for helping you to drive more safely, as it implies respect.

I would like to believe in fairies especially those that come in at night and do all the housework.
I think my teenage children believed that fairies washed their clothes and had them back in the cupboard in no time.

That’s what I say to DH when he expresses astonishment if I say, ‘I’m going to clean the bathrooms’ I wonder if he thinks magic pixies usually do it.

That is why shops' toilets have a notice "Thank you for washing your hands". I would not try that sort of thing on my husband if I were you he would likely see through that gambit.

Einstein may have considered fairy stories a useful means of stimulating children’s minds and even of teaching them moral values, but that does not mean that he believed in fairies.

The key word here is ‘stories’.

Lemongrove - Do you hold the same views i.e myths and superstitions about organised religions? If I said those sort of things about Christianity, Islam or Judaism I would quite rightly be vilified. I can't prove the faeries, little people and natural spirits exist no more than a Christian, Muslim or Jew can prove the existence of God/Allah/Y-hw-h. It is their belief and as such should be respected. Equally my beliefs should be respected and not denigrated as myths and superstitions.
