We got a call from our daughter just before coming to bed to say our six year old granddaughter is in hospital, for the second time in three months. We were able to see and speak to our granddaughter and she was on oxygen and antibiotics then, but she was finding breathing difficult. I’ve now just had a text to say she’s been moved to Intensive Care (she’s in NZ).
She had double pneumonia and a collapsed lung last time and although she became really very poorly she didn’t deteriorate anything like as quickly as she has done today. She has a compromised immune system having been born extremely prematurely and I’m concerned that the struggle to breathe may affect her heart.
So please, if you’re a pray-er would you pray for her? ?? She needs all the help she can get.
I am hoping and praying for all of you concerned to be strong for each other and especially your darling granddaughter. As she gets better please let us know. ????
That is encouraging news, I am sure we will all continue to pray for her, but children do bounce back quickly. DS aged 11 months had a respiratory arrest one morning, and after a successful resuscitation in hospital Casualty (amid many prayers!) was blue lighted, barely consious, to children's ICU at a bigger hospital. Three hours after arrival he was standing up trying to dismantle his oxygen tent!
UPDATE: Overall my granddaughter was slightly better today, but the hospital is now awaiting the results of a culture to see if she has bacterial as well as the viral pneumonia. She’s getting antibiotics intravenously and she had a reaction that caused her to be sick so they’ve changed them to one that suits her better.
I’m holding on to the fact that whilst children can get poorly very quickly, they can also bounce back just as quickly. Three months ago when she was admitted with pneumonia, she was recovered enough to finish her treatment at home after only four or five days.
I've just seen this and I too send my thoughts and prayers. I'm not really a prayer-person, but at times like this we all offer up fervent hopes. I do hope you have positive news
It’s very hard being so far away when all you want to do is hold those you love very close. Praying your little gd will stabilise soon and that there will be some NZ “angels” who can support your daughter too.
