What happens to truly evil people when die?

A loving forgiving God , as per the Bible ONLY forgives those who repent & are willing to atone for their actions & behaviour .
So I think you can take comfort from the fact that , that didn’t happen, therefore , going by the scriptures he will destined for a visit to very hot place.

Surely the concepts of heaven and hell were invented by religions to keep their members under their control? Haven't we all come across fire and brimstone style ministers and priests who think fear is the key to keeping the population under their control?
If I was the ruler of the world the first thing I'd ban would be religion,the opiate of the masses .I know my mum would have died happier without a horrible priest yelling at her to "confess your sins" while she was getting more stressed by the minute.She died 5 minutes after he left and he wasn't asked to her funeral !!

Religion is the root cause of much of the worlds wars and problems,in my opinion we'd be far better of giving folk a good life so they didn't need the crutch of a religion.I'm not singling out one .they are all as bad as each other .

If the Christian gospel was truly lived out the world would be a better place in my opinion. I am not denying the validity of other religions. If we are prepared to love our neighbours unconditionally as God loves us and we learnt to work for the common good our world could be transformed.

Oh, yes, you're right, I missed that one.

I wouldn't ban it. I'd try to educate people in the realities of life so that they didn't need it. No prejudice intended by using the word educate, I just mean it in the broadest sense. Some of the cleverest people in the world believe in religions.

I don’t think I need religion Alegrias, it has simply always been a part of my life though not in a blind, unquestioning sense. I’m reasonably well educated and realistic but my beliefs are part of who I am and I’m happy with that.

There are Atheists who do much for their fellow men and people of faiths who do much for their fellow men.

I acknowledge readily that religious people do good for their fellow man, and I'm an atheist. So please don't make sweeping statements about atheists, Anniebach. That's no more defensible than making sweeping statements about religious people. But I always like to point out that being religious is not a pre-requisite to being a good person.

Religion isn't the reason for the atrocities in the world, that's down to mankind. It would still happen whether there was religion or not.

I would agree Alegrias that not all people of faith are good. One only has to consider the radicalised terrorists. I’m sure all religions have their fair share of people who profess to be followers but hide another side, often seen in the home.

Smileless2012, but over the centuries, how many wars have been fought in the name of religion, how many atrocities committed in the name of religion? I'm by no means suggesting that there would be nothing like that if there was no religion, but you can't deny that many, many wars and other atrocities only happened because of it.

The last time I checked the Salvation army hadn't declared war on non believers. I have no problem at all with people who are part of an organised religion or have a belief so can some of you lay off with the silly comments aimed at those of us who are equally happy with not having any particular religious beliefs.
