Who chose the Christmas stamps?

Not happy. angry
In a kingdom of great cathedrals, I'm not very impressed with the choice of Christmas stamps depicting various cathedrals.
Edinburgh - I'm not Scottish, I don't live there
Armagh - I'm not Irish, I don't live there either
Bangor - I'm not Welsh, I don't live there
Westminster - I'm a Londoner, but NOT Roman Catholic
Liverpool - I guess it will have to be that.

Where's Salisbury, Durham, Gloucester, Exeter, Canterbury, York?

Yes.

Winners will receive a second class stamp (sent second class).

But not from the film (never watched it).
It's just not far away 🙂

That’s a good question.
Who DOES choose the designs for the “special” stamps?

Exeter cathedral is lovely.

This is what the link (above) says

Westminster Cathedral is the largest Roman Catholic church in England and Wales.

The construction of the building was finished in 1903, however, what many people don't know about the cathedral is that it is unfinished.

This may all be part of the thinking - Westminster is still having work done on the mosaics.

Not really bothered about the stamps, but an opportunity to post a picture of the ‘finest cathedral on planet Earth’ as stated by Bill Bryson.

Durham

Goodness what a strange thought pattern Escaped I thought we lived in Great Britain then surely it’s right and fair to represent all the four countries being part of the whole

Goodness me what a strange way of thinking sounds incredible possessive,

Greyduster Wed 06-Nov-24 07:31:52

I have to agree with Georgesgran. Although York is my “parish”, Durham Cathedral has my heart. It’s true to its Norman roots and you can almost feel it breathing it’s history into you.

Wells Cathedral with its beautiful scissor arches.

Interesting RosiesMaw.
Seeing as it's named "The 🤴 Royal 🤴 Mail", maybe The King chooses the designs for stamps?!
However, he obviously slipped up with the cathedral choices because The King is The Head of The Church of ENGLAND!

Did we mention Coventry?
I took this photo last year, but I'm not sure it would lend itself well to a Christnas ainting.

Not to mention the cost!!!! £2.80 to send to anywhere since beginning of October. So from our perspective, the PO have shot themselves in the foot as we shall no longer be sending cards overseas at that outrageous price per stamp.

Well last month I posted a family card to Northern Cyprus, don't care re cost, a cup of coffee which I can manage without, as I want them to have a little bit of UK at Christmas. Which is well celebrate by all there.

Visgir1 Wed 06-Nov-24 08:37:04

Can't see why your concerned? One for each area it's a no brainer.
They just get thrown in a bin after use.

escaped Wed 06-Nov-24 08:41:50

Nooo! Don't throw them in the bin!
Save them for charities, there's choices for everyone. Mine go to the Dogs' Trust. 🐕

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 09:17:57

To represent the whole of the UK’s cathedrals I expect, why would that bother anyone?

Norah Wed 06-Nov-24 10:14:45

I'd have loved a stamp depicting the Ely Cathedral.

Ziplok Wed 06-Nov-24 10:28:59

Last time I looked, those countries were still part of the United Kingdom, therefore it’s only right and proper that they should be represented too. It’s not English Mail, but Royal Mail, isn’t it?
I find your comments very uncomfortable escaped. I’m English but don’t believe other parts of the United Kingdom should be exempted purely on the grounds of them not being English.

You put the cat amongst the pigeons, escaped!

Or amongst the bats in the belfry if we're sticking to an ecclesiastical theme. 🦇⛪

Cats? 🐈 🐈‍⬛️
Did you know that Exeter Cathedral has the oldest cat flap in the world? It dates back over 400 years.
The resident cathedral cat also has his own newsletter!

loopyloo Wed 06-Nov-24 11:58:45

The King's not head of the church of Scotland is he? Showing my ignorance here.
Were the cathedrals chosen on looks alone? If the king is defender of the faiths should we have had a synagogue, mosque and the Natural history museum to represent the atheists amongst us?

NotSpaghetti Wed 06-Nov-24 11:59:31

I am happy with any choice of cathedral (one from each country is hood as far as I'm concerned)... but I actually don't like the artwork.

Can't please us all obviously! grin
