In a kingdom of great cathedrals, I'm not very impressed with the choice of Christmas stamps depicting various cathedrals.
Edinburgh - I'm not Scottish, I don't live there
Armagh - I'm not Irish, I don't live there either
Bangor - I'm not Welsh, I don't live there
Westminster - I'm a Londoner, but NOT Roman Catholic
Liverpool - I guess it will have to be that.

Where's Salisbury, Durham, Gloucester, Exeter, Canterbury, York?

*good (not hood)!

And you wonder why the Scots want independence. We are not a region of England !!

Mojack26 Wed 06-Nov-24 12:19:20

Well I don't live in any of places you mentioned but I am Scottish and Edinburgh hasgreat cathedrals! Her late majesty lay at rest in one of them! Get a grip or do you want one just to please you! Sorry but I think you are being very childish....What does it matter....

No, the King is not head of the Church of Scotland, looyloo smile

Quite right that we have a cathedral from every country and also that we have a catholic one, don't think many other denominations have cathedrals. Have you ever been to Westminster Cathedral, it is a splendid building. (Free to go in unlike Westminster Abbey too. And EA is not actually a xathedral). Managed to attend a service there in holy week, what a lovely service, and so representative of the I ited kingdom
There are nearly 100 cathedrals of all denominations, which ones were chosen will undoubtedly upset someone.
I wouldn't reject a stamp based on religious prejudice, what a dreadful reason to reject a stamp.

Well I live in Scotland and am glad to be included.

The view from my office window for 10 years - not always with snow but it makes a lovely Christmas card. Guess where!

I believe Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are part of the Kingdom you mention as are the Roman Catholics who live there and also in England. I find the post quite offensive

Canterbury, Durham, and York were all featured a previous time that they had Cathedral stamps (along with St Pauls, St Giles Edinburgh and Liverpool Metropolitan).

There have also been multiple times that Christmas stamps have been based on stained glass windows featuring a variety of churches

I don't see why UK Christmas stamps have to be London-centric.

you don't have to buy the christmas stamp.

SingingRabbits Wed 06-Nov-24 13:27:39

Whoever chose them was probably too ignorant to know that those you name even exist! It’s all part of the regrettable erasure of Christian culture from our once Christian country.

Glenfinnan Wed 06-Nov-24 14:03:09

I never buy Christmas stamps! Buy ordinary ones so I use them all year round. Delivering more by hand this year!!!

Norwich Cathedral 🙂

Another lovely building.

Have all those cathedrals relocated to London?

Allira Wed 06-Nov-24 14:07:20

This thread is really very funny. 😂

Am I missing something here? Aren’t the 4 chosen ones all Christian cathedrals? The OP was unhappy that one of them was an RC cathedral 🤷‍♀️

Where is this?

Yes
And - they're Christmas stamps.

The clue is in the name.

Mamardoit Wed 06-Nov-24 14:13:09

I think it's good that the obvious ones haven't been chosen. Not that I'll be buying any. I have a stock of the ordinary ones to work through.

Galton Wed 06-Nov-24 14:27:36

I would have liked Norwich Cathedral.

Galton Wed 06-Nov-24 14:27:56

I would have preferred Norwich Cathedral.

You put the cat amongst the pigeons, escaped!

Or amongst the bats in the belfry if we're sticking to an ecclesiastical theme. 🦇⛪

Cats? 🐈 🐈‍⬛️
Did you know that Exeter Cathedral has the oldest cat flap in the world? It dates back over 400 years.
The resident cathedral cat also has his own newsletter!

I never noticed!! Well I never.
Nor have I seen any cats wandering around when I've been there.

Well, this all sounds very inclusive...hmm

It's Christmas so yes, Christian cathedrals.

We might have stamps with mosques Sikh temples, synagogues on them for other significant religious occasions if you're worried about inclusivity.

My thoughts were about about the OP not liking the fact that the chosen cathedrals were from different parts of the UK. It sounded as if they thought they should all be English cathedrals. Personally, I couldn't care less what's on the stamps.
