The Paintings Tagger advert that keeps 'flashing' at the right of the topics is really annoying!

flowerfriend Thu 08-Mar-12 10:35:36

I am SO glad its not just me that it annoys.

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 10:42:04

Stoopid thing to do to paintings anyway! Sigh.

Greatnan Thu 08-Mar-12 10:50:44

I can't see it - now I feel deprived. There is no such thing as a free lunch.........

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 11:04:38

I quite like that one. Who are they doing it for though? Is it for searches on the internet or something more official?

Not that I'd want to do it. Brain numbing or what?!

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 11:09:55

Love the little gingerbread fellers. The way he takes his tie off to be himself! grin

syberia Thu 08-Mar-12 11:18:53

I don't even notice them until you tell me about them! grin

GoldenGran Thu 08-Mar-12 11:25:29

I quite like the gingerbread men, they are sweet, but I haven't clicked to see what it is about, and I do find the painting thing irritating and distracting. Love Alan Bennetsmile

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 11:26:27

SSSh! Don't tell the advertisers that Syberia! grin

absentgrana Thu 08-Mar-12 11:31:49

wotsa Go to the Gransnet home page and you'll find an explanation about tagging the paintings. I don't think it would be especially mind numbing. I can't say that I take much notice of any of the advertisements; I just focus on the forums. I wasn't even aware of gingerbread men.

glassortwo Thu 08-Mar-12 11:32:34

I had to wait an age to catch Alan Bennet but that paint ad is always there hmm like the gingerbread men but I havent clicked either.

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 11:33:58

The gingerbread men are mouthwatering and so shouldn't be allowed.

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 11:34:51

Is it just me that clicks on 'em?! shock blush

Little things.........!

Stansgran Thu 08-Mar-12 11:55:49

What gingerbread men?

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 12:30:05

Having read the GN newsletter, I now think I know what the painting tagging is about. Seems reasonable to make a database of publicly owned paintings.

But the flashing advert is still so annoying that it has put me off taking part. A still one might have awakened my interest. A flashing one just feels intrusive.

syberia Thu 08-Mar-12 12:55:34

Wamuj I just refuse to click on ANY advertising in the hope that it will stop!!!

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 13:05:40

I've got a feeling that if the ads stopped, so would the site.

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 13:05:47

syberia, my feelings too! I've built up a good head of advert immunity over the years as, I daresay, have other people, which is why advertisers are just getting more inventive with their annoyances. I just keep 'out-zooming' the bloody things but it's irritating to have to do that.

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 13:06:22

Not against adverts, just flashing ones beside what I'm trying to read.

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 13:07:13

Those ones with the red ties Stansgran. smile [helpful]

wotsajingl is, I'm afraid, right - we can't do this without the ads. It's useful to know that lots of people don't like flashing ads, though - we can tell the advertisers that.

As far as the paintings tagging is concerned...in exchange for us encouraging (maybe even getting?) some gransnetters to tag, they'll say in their newsletter we've joined in, and alert their taggers (who are very often grans) to our existence. And we think they're a generally good thing. As indeed are gingerbread men.

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 15:47:13

What? Taggers, or grans?

The generally good things, I mean.

syberia Thu 08-Mar-12 16:16:05

Have already started tagging the paintings!! Found it hard to drag myself away from that, too! grin

syberia Thu 08-Mar-12 16:20:02

I was previously referring to adverts in general, I don't want the advertisers to think that they influence me!

But of course I am glad if the ads on here keep GN going, I would truly be lost without you all now!

I meant the Public Catalogue Foundation. But grans are even more of a good thing.
