We really didn't mean to cause any upset, and we are really sorry if we did.

Of course, you are just like us, a mixed bunch, but all are well meaning. smile

You have probably got some new members from here because of this contratante (hope that's right - don't speak french!) (me included) and, who knows, some of your grans may have joined us here. Hope Sure we can all get along. smile

We were only joshing. wink

Welcome to Gransnet elen. flowers
I joined a forum in Australia, it was very boring and posters had to get permission to start a new thread. confused Probably the reason why people didn't post often. I posted one comment and never returned. smile

Hello elen1 - you are already saying all the right things! You will fit right in. Keep posting and have fun. What a shame you missed our virtual partysunshine.

wotsa Did you mean contretemps, as in a slight disagreement?

wotsamashedupjingl Mon 12-Mar-12 09:18:34

I haven't a clue Probably*Absent*! smile

As I have said before on here, our french teacher left the school after teaching our class for a term. I don't know why. hmm

butternut I love forum virgin*- I'm one too! I had a look on *the other side and decided this was home, here on GN , for me

Me too - Forums were foreign territory to me before last June - or was it May?
I found my natural home here - good-naturedly controversial, quirky and supportive.

Butter & Golden Me too! I was a virgin once it was my first time on here and here I'm staying!! (Haven't done housework for months!) grin

I echo Butternut, I enjoy Gransnet and browsing through the threads and articles and joining in as and when! This is a first for me and I do not do Facebook, Twitter or others as I feel no need. My iPad and I are very busy....
There is room for everyone on all these sites without upsetting people surely?

Having had a good look around the other site, I can see lots of similarities, but also the differences. On here, we tend to go for a broad sweep of all sorts of subjects, and we've got an opinion on everything. We like to get political, and we deal with very contentious issues. We have a definite culture - look at our 'parties' and 'nights out.' They have their own momentum. Such good fun!

Over there, they are more granny/grandchildren focused, are mutually supportive, and seem to have deeper individual friendships, using very positive language and the postings are a bit snappier, often shorter in length, using props like flashing letters and glitzy graphics sometimes. It's got great technology, and it's helpful to be able to hover over a thread and see what the gist of it is before deciding to click on it.

I like both sites. As MappieP says - room for everyone, and no need to upset people smile
