Grans are grandma's and grandpa's

In a recent thread it was stated :-

"I am so tempted to ask "which bit of GRANS-net do you not understand.
But I know grandads seem to be welcome on here. (A policy I do not agree with)"

If members do not agree with this policy, why did they join ? The opening line of About Gransnet clearly states :-

"Gransnet® is the social networking site for grandparents. "

The description continues to talk about GrandMothers and GrandFathers.

If you haven't read it you will find it here :- www.gransnet.com/info/about

I have generally found most members welcome some male input, even they do not agree with it. Unless Gransnet® changes it's policy this site is for all grandparents, male, female, young and old and long may it be so.

Personally think it is sad not more grandfathers are on the site. Better balance to reflect life in the real world!

pomps smile

I'm with you, pompa. And members don't even have to be grandparents, which I was a bit surprised about, but there you go! smile

I like the (occasional ) malesmile

It is a mainly female site and easy to assume that it is intended for women/grandmothers, and our discussions tends to be from a woman's point of view, but I welcome male views and there are so many differences of opinion that are not necessarily related to gender, like politics, gardening and our mutual love for our grandchildren.

Anagram - Interesting - I was not aware that members didn't need to be grandparents, but It makes sense as I'm sure there are some who act in the roll of grandparent, without actually being one.

We have had a few Granddads join from time to time, but they have left after a short while. For some reason male oriented subjects do not seem to take off, and if we join in some of the female orientated ones, we go away nursing the bruises. grin

I am happy to stand toe to toe in any discussion, provided it doesn't get personal. I heal quickly !.

whenim64 Sun 06-May-12 21:16:14

Which male oriented subjects would you like to talk about pompa? grin

jeni Sun 06-May-12 21:18:52

Yes! Bright enquiringsmile
I'm quite good on plumbing, dovetailing, steam engines etc?

pompa Sun 06-May-12 21:24:46

If I translate your grin correctly wheim64, sorry to disappoint, I had things like gardening, hobbies, fishing, diy etc. in mind.

Jeni, now as an ex-engineer, steam engines are high on my list.

Anagram Sun 06-May-12 21:25:18

Sheds?

whenim64 Sun 06-May-12 21:33:30

No pompa I was being genuine. I know a little about fishing, plenty about gardening, interested in knowing more about diy etc.

I may be having a frank discussion on another thread, but that was not what I had in mind!

pompa Sun 06-May-12 21:43:04

Granddads shed is the best place to discuss these topics - us men feel safer there . smile And ladies are always welcome (providing they bring cakes !)

jeni Sun 06-May-12 21:43:30

Ooooer! Steam engines! Have you seen the beam engine in Birmingham science museum working on a steam weekend?

Anagram Sun 06-May-12 21:44:08

You old sexist, you, pompa! grin

jeni Sun 06-May-12 21:51:06

Are we back to the memories of an old engineer?
This is a circle!

susiecb Mon 07-May-12 09:51:24

Yes I like the occasional male too! My DH came on here and I told him to go and get his own site- didnt want him reading anything I might have written about him- he was Old Peculiar.

pompa Mon 07-May-12 09:59:18

I'm with you there Susicb, if Mrs. P joined the arguments my bruises may become less virtual and more actual smile

Mishap Mon 07-May-12 10:23:11

Men? - bring 'em on!

whenim64 Mon 07-May-12 10:42:08

It would be interesting to read the comments of Gransnetters' respective spouses about their postings on here (fortunately, I have mislaid mine many years ago!) grin

nanachrissy Mon 07-May-12 14:59:43

Bring 'em on, the more the merrier! I think it might open their eyes a bit too, to find out what women really think and talk about.

pompa Mon 07-May-12 15:26:24

If it help he understand the female mind it would be wonderful. - This mornings conversation -- me, do you fancy going out for lunch, Mrs. P, no I have already got something out and we can't afford to keep going out. Me, Ok, I'll get some stuff done in the garden. 30 min later --- I'm up to my armpits in potting compost, Mrs. P put her head into the greenhouse(all spruced up), I'm Ready !!!!!!!!. Women !!!!!

I do wish we could edit our posts, always spot the spelling/grammatical mistakes too late.

jeni Mon 07-May-12 15:32:11

Love it grin

Butternut Mon 07-May-12 15:37:18

I do like that, pompa! grin
