I can't open the 'active' page. Can get to the forums, obviously but I have the active page pinned to start on my phone and it won't open sad

Thank you, rose. Do you know what you're using to surf the web? The main browsers are chrome, firefox, safari, internet explorer.

Windows 7 is your operating system on your computer. It's a bit different to your internet browser blush

This is a different question now!

Jingl has no problem posting using Windows 7 on her laptop. I do.

My browser is IE.

I do think tech might have got to grips with this during today instead of you having to cope with it all, Julie! grin

Ah, okydoke. Sometimes, you think they are fixed but it just needs a tweak after or a battering with a hammer

Is anyone else who is having problems using Internet Explorer?

rosequartz Fri 05-Sept-14 20:56:24

I am using internet explorer on a pc.

I tried to download chrome a while ago but kept getting something odd as my home page so I abandoned it.

I use Windows Vista with Internet Explorer. (Mobile version on tablet is OK)

This is all a bit like the problem several of us suddenly had with downloading photos. We had changed nothing, but were told the problem must be at our end!

JulieGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 05-Sept-14 20:59:02

I think they all change your home page, sadly. Thank you, rose smile

rosequartz Fri 05-Sept-14 21:07:35

I am giving up the struggle.
Thank you

just get Firefox

Internet Explorer is not the best any more.

(I've got Fierfox)

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 05-Sept-14 21:15:25

Download it now. You won't be sorry. smile

I am using Windows 7 on a laptop, with Internet Explorer.
I have AVG Internet Security and have run a scan. There is nothing wrong apart from this.

JulieGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 05-Sept-14 22:29:58

Looks like it's Internet Explorer which is the problem. It may help if you have another browser which you can use while we look into it.

Ana Fri 05-Sept-14 22:37:46

Well, I certainly haven't got another browser to hand at the moment...grin

Seriously, I'm not changing my set-up because of this problem. I haven't had any trouble with IE during all my years of using it.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 05-Sept-14 22:41:10

Look! Firefox is free! hmm

just click on it and you've got it

Elegran Fri 05-Sept-14 22:41:55

I have Firefox. It is OK on that at the moment, but earlier on I was having problems, so it is not just IE. It seems to have something to do with Apache Tomcat.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 05-Sept-14 22:42:28

And you can change the background patterns on your tool bar. Very pretty. smile

durhamjen Fri 05-Sept-14 22:43:11

What's Apache Tomcat? Never heard of it.

Elegran Fri 05-Sept-14 22:43:45

I prefer Firefox, too, Jings and it is FREE. You don't have to remove IE, you can have them both on your pooter.

Ana Fri 05-Sept-14 22:46:45

So is your reloading page problem only on IE, Elegran? Is everything OK if you switch to Firefox?

Elegran Fri 05-Sept-14 22:47:24

[http://tomcat.apache.org/ This is Apache Tomcat] when there were problems earlier today with the site, the window that came up to tell us mentioned Apache Tomcat.

I have three browsers on mine. Some of the things I need to use won't work on one, so I have to use another (sometimes I check on all of them if someone's mailed in to say 'this isn't working', but I don't have IE). It's no bother and it doesn't cause any issues with my computer. If I want to open one, I click on it when I open up t'web. If I need to use a different browser, I just click on the other one. It makes absolutely no difference to how the computer runs, and if gransnet isn't working on one browser I can still come and chat to you all by using another whilst it's being sorted.

There was a problem earlier, which has been fixed, which explains the earlier problem with Firefox. There are glitches on IE though, which we're trying to sort.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 05-Sept-14 22:52:23

Perhaps Firefox can keep the Tomcat thing out better than Internet Explorer can?

Ana Fri 05-Sept-14 22:52:34

It was yesterday, Elegran! confused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 05-Sept-14 22:52:50

I've got two. Chrome as well. But GN comes up very small on that.

Elegran Fri 05-Sept-14 22:55:41

Have just checked, and when I right click, which usually brings up a window with some choices which include "reload" I get a different window.

There are some symbols at the top (arrows each way, a circular arrow and a star) Now that itake a closer look, I think the circular arrow could mean reload, so I tried it and it does. There are also choices of "Save page as" "Select all" "View page source" "View page info" and "inspect element (Q)" plus "view background image" which is greyed out. This is completely different to what it used to show - and I don't like it.
