Would you please tell us whether we are allowed to discuss the Prince Andrew business currently in the news on tv, radio, online, and all over the newspapers? I know one thread has been deleted. Does this mean the subject is completely out of bounds on GN?

Agus Mon 05-Jan-15 13:13:27

I noticed it was still being discussed on Mumsnet last night!

Elegran Mon 05-Jan-15 13:23:05

They said on their post just before deleted the thread that it can be discussed, but without saying that anyone is guilty or not guilty of anything. I am not sure that it really is technically sub judice, but I suspect GN are covering themselves against any charges.

Elegran Mon 05-Jan-15 13:23:33

Deleting not deleted.

whitewave Mon 05-Jan-15 13:30:05

Why are they not answering?

merlotgran Mon 05-Jan-15 13:33:36

Maybe they're all in the Tower??

We could send them a cupcake with a very small file.

whitewave Mon 05-Jan-15 13:35:32

My guess is that they got the wobbles and shut the thread down without really knowing if it was libelous or not. They perhaps haven't got access to legal advice? Come on HQ chat to us we won't eat you!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 05-Jan-15 13:46:26

Jingle - see the two other threads on this subject (which I have posted on)

No - of course it's fine to discuss it...as long as there is nothing that implies guilt to either party within the posts. Pasting from another thread...

No shut down. Simply that as there's legal proceedings going on we've been advised to remove any posts which imply guilt towards any party.

The thread we took down simply wouldn't have made sense if we had started removing posts, so the best thing in that particular instance was to remove it. As was stated on that thread (by several gransnetters) , necessary caution is being observed by all media so if you do wish to discuss this story best to bear this in mind and avoid posting comments which imply guilt until things have come to a conclusion.

whitewave Mon 05-Jan-15 13:49:37

OK so if we start another thread can we be sure that you will treat us like adults and trust that we will not imply guilt, although even that is questionable as no legal proceedings are being carried out in the UK.

Agus Mon 05-Jan-15 13:51:37

Still on AIBU on Mumsnet!

whenim64 Mon 05-Jan-15 13:58:58

Just checked again. Only legal proceedings are the civil US lawsuit which 'mentions' Andrew. Unless or until Scotland Yard investigate and charge, no legal proceedings against Andrew in UK. The only other proceeding likely is against newspapers who have misinformed over the weekend and could be forced to issue an apology and retraction of anything that isn't evidenced. Perhaps GNHQ have been given rather loose advice referencing 'legal proceedings' which is a catch-all and can mean very little.

Yup. (And it was only because of implications of guilt that anything got deleted in the first place.)

All yours grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 05-Jan-15 14:07:39

Agus

Still on AIBU on Mumsnet!

Indeed - but some threads not (for the same reasons)

Anyway...onwards!

whenim64 Mon 05-Jan-15 14:17:26

Have a cake and put your feet up, Cari. It's all starting to subside now we've asserted ourselves grin

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Jan-15 14:26:41

Slightly patronising when. Never mind. smile

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 05-Jan-15 14:28:41

I'm not remotely offended by anyone offering me cake!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Jan-15 14:37:09

No Cari. Not patronising to you. hmm

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 05-Jan-15 15:06:31

Aha - it's been a long day and it was a long night

<skulks away quietly>

thatbags Mon 05-Jan-15 15:07:51

Is your toothache better yet? Hope so.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Jan-15 15:11:23

Toothache?!!! Oh you poor baby! sad

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 05-Jan-15 15:30:43

Aw thank you - and no.

15 days, 4 appointments and enough pills to ensure I rattle when I walk. Surgery looms

petallus Mon 05-Jan-15 15:36:33

I'm sure guilt has been implied on previous threads involving other cases in the past.

whitewave Mon 05-Jan-15 15:38:40

I had a wisdom tooth taken out the year I retired - retired 3 weeks early because of it, I had like you enough pills to rattle - expect a sore time!!!!

soontobe Mon 05-Jan-15 15:39:18

And there isnt even a UK court case in this one.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 05-Jan-15 15:42:59

Oh lawks whitewave I hope it's not going to be as bad as the wisdom tooth. One of mine got stuck - literally had the dentist's foot on my chest as he tried to get it out. According to my dentist I will be oblivious to the whole thing. Blooming hope so
