As so many people now access the site on a phone or tablet, and to keep up with the modern world grin we're making Gransnet all lovely and mobile friendly. It will mean a few tweaks, as you can imagine, but we hope to bring you a test version very soon so that you can tell us what you like, what you like a bit less, and what you love (of course) - and this will all help us make the end version as fantastic as possible.

Now as part of this we're looking to streamline our forum topics a little - mainly to avoid people having to scroll for several days to find what they want grin

We are NOT getting rid of anything (and we are not getting rid of any threads!) but we are looking at merging a few topics and amalgamating a few that get less traffic into other areas. All to make it easier for use of course - but if you have strong feelings about anything now's the time to let us know.

Here's the new list as it stands.

My phone tells me I am trying to post a file that Gransnet will not accept. Its just a photo in my phone, so what kind of file will be accepted?

glassortwo Fri 12-Jun-15 08:45:57

I usually have Gn set to show new posts first, the new seems to be old to new, can you change this or not, i hate having to scroll through if I haven't remembered to bookmark ... sorry if its been posted earlier.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 12-Jun-15 09:24:11

That's odd Glass. My mobile site shows newest posts first, just like I have the desktop set for. confused

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 12-Jun-15 09:39:47

Hi glassortwo
If you go to Forums Active and then click on the little pink arrow on the right hand side of the screen (across from Forums>Active) it should bring up a dropdown menu. Click on Customise and it will give you the option to view your newest messages at top or bottom.

Newist and others, re the photos, can only assume they're too large - but will raise this with tech too just in case its something else. And by too large, this is the resolution so even if the actual photo is cut down (e.g. only showing your cat's ear!) the file size still might be too big.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 12-Jun-15 09:50:44

Oh yes. To be pedantic, it's actually a little rectangle and it says E605 on it in tiny letters. (got my magnifying glass out)

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 12-Jun-15 09:53:10

It looks like a mobile phone. smile

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 12-Jun-15 10:01:50

Hmm...that sounds like a bug we can sort out. What phone/device are you on?

newist Fri 12-Jun-15 10:16:24

Try again

newist Fri 12-Jun-15 10:19:43

I have just taken that photo, on a different setting. It would seem that all the photos I have in my gallery won't send, only new ones I take from here on in

newist Fri 12-Jun-15 10:27:46

Sorry to nag but....when I press on, you're on it, still says, I haven't posted anything ,yet sad

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 12-Jun-15 10:32:47

Thanks Newist
We're looking into that now and we'll get it working as soon as we can. This is a beta site so really useful to have this immediate feedback so we can iron out the niggles. If you're desperate for the 'I'm on' etc for now, you can always switch back to the Desktop site for now?

newist Fri 12-Jun-15 11:14:43

Thanks Lara for taking the time to get back flowers

glassortwo Fri 12-Jun-15 12:13:03

Thanks lara got it, Im not usually that dense wink

Lona Fri 12-Jun-15 12:21:32

Well, I can't find any little pink arrows or anywhere to customise my threads! Across from 'active' there are three pink circles, the middle one has a figure. The right has a drop down menu but no 'customise'. Is it me or my Hudl?

glassortwo Fri 12-Jun-15 12:39:58

lona the small rectangle ( or at least thats what it looks like without my glasses) under the three things (very technical, I know grin ) click on that and its bottom right.

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 12-Jun-15 12:46:03

glassortwo We're all getting used to it too so not dense in the slightest! Actually really grateful for the questions because it's forcing us to look at it more closely. Thanks Newist - we're getting there but grateful for your patience while we get it all sorted.
Lona - if you look directly under those three bigger circles, there should be a littler one (under the line)?

Lona Fri 12-Jun-15 13:18:17

Nope! Nothing Nada! Nowt under my three circles! #it'salwaysme! confused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 12-Jun-15 13:19:12

For me it's still a little rectangle - red outline, white inside - says E6 and 03 under that. That's on a mini i pad. But it works!

Ana Fri 12-Jun-15 13:26:01

I haven't got anything under the three big circles either! sad

I notice one of the topics on the drop down menu is Pregnancy...confused

Lona Fri 12-Jun-15 13:41:36

On my pc now and the rectangle is there under the three circles. Actually, there are rectangles after the circles that have the number of posts on a thread, so it's the Hudl that doesn't get them.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 12-Jun-15 13:42:26

Hang on! It's when I read the mobile site on my desktop that there is the rectangle. On the mini iPad it's an arrow.

Sorry to be confusing

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 12-Jun-15 13:43:16

Pregnancy! grin

Ana Fri 12-Jun-15 13:52:46

Yes! If I click on the third pink circle one of the topics is Pregnancy.

I'm on a PC and haven't got any rectangles, squares or arrows...confused

Lona Fri 12-Jun-15 14:04:35

Well Ana you are clearly pregnant!

winkshockgrin

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 12-Jun-15 14:20:54

Whoops! Can confirm the existence or lack of any squares/arrows/or E numbers does not indicate pregnancy. We'll investigate. Thanks for making us aware blush
