You warned me that the next time I was reported you would bar me. I have just had a post deleted.

Time to click?

glassortwo Thu 06-Oct-16 22:19:01

Do you think things have changed since Geraldine jumped ship?

Ana Thu 06-Oct-16 22:24:54

Yes, definitely glass!

merlotgran Thu 06-Oct-16 22:25:53

Yes I do, glass. So long as we behave and don't step out of line like using nasty swear words or disagreeing with eachother we're allowed to have a cute little forum where we can have group hugs and talk about recipes and The Archers grin

glassortwo Thu 06-Oct-16 22:29:08

grin thats exactly what I thought.

glassortwo Thu 06-Oct-16 22:32:23

I always felt that geraldine seemed interested in what went on.

Ana Thu 06-Oct-16 22:34:36

Yes, and the rest of the crew at GNHQ seemed to be, too. It's all very impersonal now.

NanaandGrampy Thu 06-Oct-16 22:36:32

Isn't there space for for group hugs and recipes along with politics and debate here?

And to be fair the combined IQ of the women surely means they can be eloquent without swearing?

Ana Thu 06-Oct-16 22:40:23

I think merlotgran was being ironic, Nanaetc.

merlotgran Thu 06-Oct-16 22:46:41

We used to have interesting live web chats. Even Des O'Connor was a hoot and came across as keen to have a bit of fun. Anne Widdicombe was good value and answered loads of questions.

I hate the Q&A system. The questions are weeded out by whoever so there's nothing too challenging for the 'celeb' to answer.

Take Nadiya Hussein for instance....Most of the questions were of the, 'What's your favourite cake?' variety but jingl questioned her on the wisdom of promoting high sugar products when all the current advice is to cut down on sugar.

I asked Nadiya if she feared becoming over exposed given that on top of everything else she's been doing in the last year she has also been signed up for a three book (novels) deal?

Guess which two questions were NOT answered?

NanaandGrampy Thu 06-Oct-16 22:47:51

Ok , flew straight over my head smile inherent problem with the word devoid of the other cues .

And on that note this little old lady sends you all a hug!! I'm off to bed !

Swanny Thu 06-Oct-16 22:50:19

merlotgran says it all grin

merlotgran Thu 06-Oct-16 22:51:44

Yes of course we can be eloquent without swearing N&G but we don't need telling.

We should be able to choose for ourselves whether we swear or not.

Galen Thu 06-Oct-16 22:59:46

GNHQ
PLEASE LISTEN TO WHAT WE ARE SAYING,
This is getting beyond a mild protest!
We are responsible intelligent adults!

Galen Thu 06-Oct-16 23:02:07

I have reported this post to GNHQ.
I AWAIT THEIR RESPONSE WITH INTEREST

merlotgran Thu 06-Oct-16 23:05:04

Nice one, Galen

In the big scheme of gransnet, there are not that many posters wanting a change in guidelines I dont think. I could be wrong.
Have gransnet ever changed guidelines?

To incorporate jingl, the guidelines would have to change a great deal.

Is it really that difficult to keep to them[once you have read them and know them off by heart of course!]?

Alima Fri 07-Oct-16 06:29:45

Obieone, please could you say exactly why the guidelines would have to change a great deal to incorporate jingle? Having read them I cannot see why. (Yes, they do appear similar to MNet. Much of the swearing on that site comes from user names but I digress).
I cannot recall one of jingl's posts where she has been obscene, racist, breaks the law or acts as a troll.

DaphneBroon Fri 07-Oct-16 06:57:34

obieone - posts like your one about Guidelines are an example of passive aggressive STIRRING.
Am I alone in being tired of this muttering about GNHQ, the sort of "support" for an (ex?) member which is like a sort of backhanded compliment?
GNHQ have said they will not discuss individuals on open forum, but if there are general grievances it is up to the aggrieved to take them up with HQ.
If we feel threads are less stimulating/amusing/well-informed orvwhatever than they were 3 or 4 years ago who is to blame? That's right, the members , as we write them!
I am sorry when a whole thread is deleted as good always disappears down the plughole along with the dross. That would be my "grievance". But I can live with it, worse things happen in RL.
It seems some people are flogging the proverbial dead horse in a thread of attrition perhaps in the hope of "wearing HQ down".
My suggestion is a Q/A thread in which individuals can put their points directly to HQ instead of a thread of apparent muttered dissatisfaction.
Any takers?
(And no stirring! Just saying it Ike it is)

Ceesnan Fri 07-Oct-16 07:23:54

No, DaphneBroon, you are saying as you see it, which is not how others do.

DaphneBroon Fri 07-Oct-16 07:26:49

OK fair enough. Expressing our opinion is what we do, discussion would be very unproductive if we all saw things the same way, or were afraid to go against the tide.

Ceesnan Fri 07-Oct-16 07:55:24

Actually I should have put some others, as there will be those who agree with you, and I would hate to be accused of speaking for everyone.

thatbags Fri 07-Oct-16 07:59:03

A good grumble is good for the soul sometimes.

I don't want guidelines changed. I want them applied more circumspectly (I know it's not easy). And I want Jingle back on board because I think she has been unfairly dismissed.

obieone Fri 07-Oct-16 08:00:04

Alima, that is for GN to say.
I had not realised that jingl appears to have broken the guidelines over many years with many different names. I thought it was much more a sort of one off situation.
I dont think you will want me or others to go back and have a look at where she broke them!

I have now become like DB.
The longer this all goes on, the harder it is fro jingl to come back in my opinion. I dont think other posters have done her any favours. She could possibly have slipped back quietly, but it feels like her dirty washing is being aired in public to me.

Wobblybits Fri 07-Oct-16 08:13:43

I see no reason why I shouldn't support a friend, GN would be richer should she return. I don't see any "dirty washing", and for me she could return and be welcomed back. Any one would think that she has committed some crime against society from some comments.
I would rather a contributor be themselves rather than some fake virtual person.

NanaandGrampy Fri 07-Oct-16 08:20:09

I totally agree Daphne ( oh for a like button HQ) smile
