We're VERY excited to announce that we are finally testing out a new site design! We've been working really hard to make sure it's easier to user and looks neater than the current format.

It is a test though and it may take a day or two to get used to. Apologies in advance for any teething problems - hopefully they'll be minimal. If you have any major problems logging in or you can't access certain things please post on this thread or email us at contactus. We'd love to have your thoughts. smile

Hello, there's a good chance our earlier post got lost in the middle of this thread so here's a link to it. It answers most of your queries. Bellanonna and NfKDumpling, we'll look into those issue for you, thanks for letting us know. And Misadventure, we're not sure that will be technically possible - at least not in the near future - but direct PMs might be way to have more private conversation (though they will be only two-way). If there are any other technical problems please email them to us at contactus. We might miss them if they're on the thread. Happy Saturday, everyone smile!

Missadventure I think you might be in for a long wait I really think it was a huge mistake of HQ to ask for opinions and then not take any notice of even one
500+ posts mostly disagreeing or giving new suggestions and nothing taken any notice of They would have been better off just making their changes without a fanfare or a plea for help and taking whatever flak people gave if they noticed or bothered
It was a huge mistake to whip up excitement and then thrash it down

BlueBelle Sat 09-Sept-17 09:09:32

When I posted my above comment HQ s comment wasn't there I see it was posted four minutes before so there must be some delay

MissAdventure Sat 09-Sept-17 09:13:14

Thank you Lara.
Seems I won't be able to ask for the support I desperately need then. Oh well....

FarNorth Sun 10-Sept-17 12:59:49

LaraGransnet, that link only leads to page 1 of this thread. Plus ça change etc...

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 11-Sept-17 12:15:58

FarNorth - it was working for us...took a minute or two but took us directly to the post Lara mentioned.

And as Lara says above, rest assured we are listening and we are not ignoring suggestions at all. Not everything that everyone would like is going to be possible of course - and other changes may take a little time. Anything causing technical issues do let us know by email (again, see Lara's post) as that's the quickest way to get things fixed.

Having a quick look at mumsnet really confirms how clear their serif-free font is and how old-fashioned this one is.
Almost like - modern for one generation and fuddy-duddy for the old dears.
Despite all the expressions of dislike, we've been told we're stuck with. I'd bet a change of font would be very easy to do.
It's also tough luck missadventure and anyone else looking for support as trawling threads for juicy gossip and titillation is commercially more important.

MissAdventure Mon 11-Sept-17 13:49:48

Yes, its a great pity. I couldn't just randomly message someone and ask for advice..

FarNorth Tue 12-Sept-17 10:36:50

I wasn't bothered about the font but comparing GN to MN does show how much clearer the sans serif one is.

Even if you did that, MissAdventure, you'd only get one person's view.

Maybe you could post a tiny hint of your problem and invite others to PM you? That sounds like a great arrangement, not.

This may have been mentioned but in case not:
Can we have all entries numbered? Some forums have so many entries that finding one you want is very time consuming and easy to miss. That would be more important than the page numbers.

I can't start a new thread. If I click on the appropriate button I just get a long list.

Of course this may be deliberate so I'm prepared to bribe for a change of heartwineflowerscupcake

Tech are on the case, GracesGran!

GracesGranMK2 Tue 19-Sept-17 17:27:34

Thank you!

Very strange - today 'Last Day' brings up over 100 threads, instead of 50 as recently. They're in chronological order, not by alphabetical topic.

Jane10 Thu 21-Sept-17 07:30:35

And now there's an irritating advert box before the reply box. It's actually put me off posting. Wonder if it's deterring others. Oh well money comes first even if our posts are GNs sales product.

kittylester Thu 21-Sept-17 07:39:32

That advert is driving me nuts Jane!

Elegran Thu 21-Sept-17 07:59:31

I don't get any advert before the reply box, nor a banner at the top of the screen. Are you using a PC, a tablet, or a phone? Have you enabled "Turn off tracking" and "Turn off pop-up ads" on your browser?

Jane10 Thu 21-Sept-17 10:21:47

Using a tablet. N luck

NotTooOld Thu 21-Sept-17 10:28:26

I'm new to this thread so I expect this has been mentioned before but I can't find an answer - please can we have a LIKE button?

MiniMouse Thu 21-Sept-17 10:36:59

Can anybody answer this for me, please? When there's a pm conversation I can't find a way of reading and following the two-way conversation. It means constantly faffing around clicking on Inbox and Sent.

Am I doing something wrong or is it always like this? (I'm currently on desktop, if that makes any difference)

Jane10 Thu 21-Sept-17 10:38:30

Previous response was sent from my tablet without me pressing send! All this messing about trying to get rid of adverts has been very annoying. Think I'll just give GN a rest.

Elegran Thu 21-Sept-17 13:39:21

These pages are about automatic ads on web pages.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdSense#How_it_works How they work.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdChoices How to opt out

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_blocking Blocking ads

AlieOxon Tue 10-Oct-17 10:43:34

I'm coping with the design.

What I DON'T like is that the adverts, which I successfully got rid of ages ago, have suddenly reappeared on the right and above. Today.

I don't want them. But especially I have difficulty - and I suspect many older people do - with FLICKERING AND MOVING ads. They distract me to the point of turning off.

How do I get rid of them?

Charleygirl Tue 10-Oct-17 11:20:08

I was on Local and tried to PM somebody there to remind her of our next meet up on Thursday but found that I can no longer do that. Is that deliberate?
