The site is just getting ridiculous - please be more pro-active. I am at the point of giving up altogether.

Anniebach Sun 30-Dec-18 12:52:06

I think the same Elegran

Jane10 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:00:03

How dare you Elegran and Anniebach! I'm now raging and very distressed! wink

Jalima1108 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:08:15

Please don't flounce Jane10 - please

I'm crying now sad

mcem Sun 30-Dec-18 13:13:50

Jane I don't think elegran 's and annie 's posts were made to distress you but were rather tongue in cheek or even cynical comments on GNHQ's position.
Ideally GN would be working hard to hold on to loyal posters, to take account of our views and to make the site more comfortable for all.
However, as a business concern they will always look at ways to increase membership/customers/income and unfortunately that could well be achieved by encouraging "fireworks".
I believe that your stance is genuine and that GNHQ are being manipulative.
I don't believe that the views expressed are entirely contradictory or should distress you.
If I have got this totally wrong I apologise!

Jane10 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:22:27

mcem I was joking in my last post. However, I do believe that GN is a business. Us, the Grans, are a potentially lucrative market and GN needs to be able to demonstrate to potential advertisers that they have us. If we all piss off, as well we might, the GN golden goose is well and truly cooked!

Chewbacca Sun 30-Dec-18 13:23:09

It's annoying when a new poster posts in aibu and then, when they get replies to say yes they are, an immediate response is that they're being bullied!
But what makes me truly uncomfortable is seeing a post, from a relatively new male poster, to a female poster, that has a blatantly sexual reference. In all the time I've been a member of this forum, I've never seen that before this weekend. It's an unpleasant downward slide for GN.

Jalima1108 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:25:26

oldbatty
Does this site generate income ie are people being paid to run it?

I believe that GN also 'own' our posts which can be used elsewhere in articles which generate income.

I hope they will correct me if I'm wrong.

Jalima1108 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:27:53

mcem I was joking in my last post
As was I in my reply to you Jane10

However, it would be very sad to see more longstanding posters leave because of what has been happening lately.

mcem Sun 30-Dec-18 13:28:34

Well thank goodness jane!
It seemed so out of character that I was a bit taken aback!
But don't you agree that GNHQ are either being very cynical or are handling this ongoing kerfuffle really badly?

MawBroon Sun 30-Dec-18 13:34:58

I too had a temporary ????*Jane 10*
Whew!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:40:59

Perhaps the site is overseen by the office junior at the weekend.

Another “dubious” thread has just been started.

Gonegirl Sun 30-Dec-18 13:47:31

When posters 'pretend' to be upset and "crying", THAT is bullying. Of the worst kind.

Gonegirl Sun 30-Dec-18 13:49:00

roastchicken

Jane10 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:49:01

I was just trying to manufacture the sort of argumentative atmosphere alluded to by Elegran. I always find that if Elegran says a thing its true!

NatashaGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 30-Dec-18 13:49:44

Hi all,

We want everyone to feel welcome on Gransnet. As in real life, there will always be people we don't agree with or who rub us up the wrong way. Just to reiterate, if there's something you'd like us to look at, please do get in touch. We look at every report independently.

You will appreciate that it's New Year's weekend but we are still working, as ever, and get to all reports as quickly as we can. smile

Jane10 Sun 30-Dec-18 13:49:57

Most posters know that I like a laugh!

Gonegirl Sun 30-Dec-18 13:50:12

hmm

Gonegirl Sun 30-Dec-18 13:50:53

That hmm wasn't aimed at Natasha.

MawBroon Sun 30-Dec-18 13:51:14

Gonegirl eh? confused ?
A long time since I have seen the roastchicken smiley employed in cold blood.

Gonegirl Sun 30-Dec-18 13:52:43

It's there. Might as well use it. (In this case there really is a roast chicken to be looked after)

MawBroon Sun 30-Dec-18 13:53:55

And in this a wine requiring urgent attention.

Chewbacca Sun 30-Dec-18 13:55:23

Natasha the sexual references posts were reported to you but the more offensive post, from last night, still stands. There seems little incentive to report if nothing is done.

boheminan Sun 30-Dec-18 13:56:17

I'm by no means a 'newbie', but when I originally decided to 'come out' of lurking and contribute to posts, I was welcomed and my opinion was turned over along with everyone elses.

There didn't seem to be any 'gangs' or 'playground bullying', like there is now (and I know I'll be vilified for daring to voice my opinion, I don't care, I'm going anyway) there was wise advice, support, jokes, chat - and no, it wasn't bland and boring, it was vibrant and supportive.

So many posters have disappeared (or morphed into someone else). I recently dipped my toes in the water to see what it was like, and they didn't get bitten by a shoal of piranha fish, as sometimes can happen, but I've ended up feeling invisible as my remarks are ignored, trampled over in the rush to chat in the gang. If this were RL, and I was in a group of people (not friends) who were rude enough to totally ignore any of my input, I'd feel very hurt, leave and never go back. I believe Hillwalker has some of the same feelings - anyone read her thread? PS: I'm not flouncing off, I'm tired and disallusioned and feel more like dragging myself away.

Gonegirl Sun 30-Dec-18 13:56:27

Good idea Maw. [quick slurp]

Gonegirl Sun 30-Dec-18 13:57:29

Really bad idea to let posters change name.
