I don't understand the double standards of what is allowed on Mumsnet, and what is allowed on Gransnet. On Mumsnet, they use the most foul language , sometimes in every other post, and it's accepted by them and the mods. But on Gransnet, there seems to be the need to self delete any swear words i.e. f**k, which is ridiculous because everyone knows what is meant.

Whilst perusing Mumsnet recently, I discovered an acronym that I thought was actually rather useful and it seemed to be used very frequently and to good effect. I used it once on a thread here and was instantly deleted and put on the naughty step!

Can you tell us what it was chewbacca?

There used to be a forum called Bad Mothers Club, sadly no longer, and a favoured word on there, often used to describe an unpleasant or useless make person was "twunt"

It was the only time I've ever used it and, having seen it used so liberally over there, it was just so apt a response to the situation! Sadly, it barely saw the light of day before it, and I, was zapped! Maybe GNHQ agree with david and think it's unseemly for grannies to curse and swear!

No idea what this thread is about but I am guessing swearing /language on GN, apologies if I am mistaken.

It doesn't bother me particularly but I do dislike the use of acronyms to hide behind what at times is obviously infantile behaviour, each to his/her own I guess.

If you are an adult and want to swear at somebody to show your feeling at least have the guts to do it in an adult manner and use the word/words, not hide behind acronyms.

I think swearing is not worthy of deletion as it serves to show other posters your /their character and inability to debate, take criticism, or be considerate of other people's views and opinions.

They tend to be the equivalent of the OFFICE BORE on a forum, dull, repetitive, or tedious to be around.

It's not about swearing.

When I log on to GN I start with the threads from the bottom of the Active page upwards. I have just hit the thread ' how many times in a day'.

Fair enough ladies and gentlemen I hold my hands up.

As I said swearing does not bother me but if a poster repeatedly uses it make their point in an aggressive manner then they are the equivalent of the OFFICE BORE.
