Imbalance in feedback opportunities

Every thread has a link to report the thread to GNHQ.

Yet no link to inform GNHQ that one thinks that a thread is good.

Every post has a link to report the post to GNHQ.

Yet no link to inform GNHQ that one thinks that a post is good.

So GNHQ may well get unbalanced feedback.

Thanks Sally
Have a nice afternoon smile

I would say that you are more controlling than competitive EP
Not controlling of people so much as your surroundings.
I bet that you hate change.

Have there been any arguments on the French threads about chickens?

I typed out an erudite post in response to you about hens, chickens, eggs and cockerels but it didn't post.

Sometimes posts don't appear and I wonder if it's because someone else posts a millisecond earlier and the system can't cope.

So the erudite thread did not stick!

(oblique reference to a malapropism-based joke about "the thinking person's glue")

That comment was to Fanny.

I think I won’t reply to you, EP - it’s all getting a bit pedantic and ‘insular’ for me. I think I’ll put my iPad down, now my cooking is ready, and go and weed my allotment, before picking up 2 of the GCs from their football club session. But you have fun now

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 14:41:39

You cat sounds lovely Fanny smile they have it all worked out don't they? grin

Sally12 Mon 02-Aug-21 14:40:35

Ah ok thanks

You’re very competitive OP

Really?

Not offended or anything, but really surprised.

I honestly don't think that I have thought of myself as competitive or as far as I know thought of as competitive by others.

So, when I was driving, just going along in the leftmost lane, "after you" at junctions, let people into the queue from a side road, and so on. at

Keen to learn, wanting to do my best, yes, wanting to achieve but no desire or attempt to be an alpha male.

I am interested to know why you have formed that opinion. Could you possibly say please?

I think Fanny means that 'site stuff' posts do not feature in the daily emails because this section is excluded by whatever algorithm they use to generate them

Yes, and they do have a hand in picking them. For instance, they’re not going to put a thread like that Thai (or whatever) one that went on for ages. Or a games one.
They often edit the titles too.

My cat does something lovely.
She is the most peaceful and gentle creature, but she loathes magpies - of which we have many.
But she has done a sterling job of keeping them at bay. All the neighbours comment that the little birds have come back now.
We have foxes in the field at the bottom of the garden, which we sometimes give bread and stuff to.
Rosie sits next to the food, and literally guards it for the foxes and doesn’t let the magpies have it.

Just pondering but the people who post on gn these days are all pretty nice ( noice in our vernacular) unlike when I first joined when there was a coven of witches who disappeared pouff into the atmosphere. Thank goodness . ?

My further thoughts on this, fwiw.

The original French-only thread got bogged down in a discussion about EPs shopping and eating habits and baby food. Participants probably lost interest at that point. I know I did. This morning, I tried starting a new topic but no takers. Fair enough.

The thread where people can ask question in English about what is being discussed in the French cafe is, as I write, about the mechanics of using Google Translate and more stuff about baby food, Immediately before that was a childish and tedious quote-nesting competition which, again, lost my interest.

The thread which I had understood to be about writing a story in the French past historic has morphed into a discussion in English about book construction. Interesting but not what the topic was supposed to be about.

The beginners’ French thread ended up in an argument and has had no interest since last Thursday.

Thread drift is nothing new on discussion forums but this whole French thing has become a dissatisfying muddle. I don’t think I’m the only one to have lost interest. Nice idea. Wrong execution.

I will try to have a look at what you wrote in the café this morning. I have been doing other things, not only on Gransnet. Thank you for contributing.

I have now replied to your post in the café.

Thank you for posting.

I wonder if this thread will be featured in Gransnet daily tomorrow.

As far as I am aware, none of the French one's have, thus far.
Trust me; it won’t

How can you be so sure? (Conspiracy theories abound…….)

No, I used to though. My dog has a pigeon farm but it's entirely accidental.

I'm intrigued!

We keep seeing pigeons' eggshells on the ground under our grapevine, the b****rs must have laid their eggs directly on the vine, no sign of a nest!

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 14:24:01

FannyCornforth

About the dog’s pigeon farm, please

grin

She is allowing them to roam and breed. We counted 14 just on the ground. Next doors spaniels (either side) chase them and I think the pigeons are taking liberties but the dog doesn't seem to care! They are in all the trees, in the hedges, on the fences, bloody everywhere. She is like that woman in Home Alone 2

I think I have posted about the man with the gun....we haven't seen him for a while. He is no use in the back field though, he needs to be in our garden!

FarNorth Mon 02-Aug-21 14:21:38

Maybe talk about french knickers, instead of chickens, if you hope to attract attention?

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 14:20:44

Wow, you do very well for wildlife. Sounds lovely

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 14:19:48

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 14:19:10

Ooh, do tell…

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 14:18:48

We also get duck and geese in the garden and pheasants, is that what you may be thinking of? and moor hens

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 14:17:49

Jane have you actually got pet chickens, or have I made that up?

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 14:15:41

I was going to ask that actually Callistemon, sometimes it takes ages for my posts to post and I wondered if the Chinese government were taking an interest in my online activity here wink
