My further thoughts on this, fwiw.

The original French-only thread got bogged down in a discussion about EPs shopping and eating habits and baby food. Participants probably lost interest at that point. I know I did. This morning, I tried starting a new topic but no takers. Fair enough.

The thread where people can ask question in English about what is being discussed in the French cafe is, as I write, about the mechanics of using Google Translate and more stuff about baby food, Immediately before that was a childish and tedious quote-nesting competition which, again, lost my interest.

The thread which I had understood to be about writing a story in the French past historic has morphed into a discussion in English about book construction. Interesting but not what the topic was supposed to be about.

The beginners’ French thread ended up in an argument and has had no interest since last Thursday.

Thread drift is nothing new on discussion forums but this whole French thing has become a dissatisfying muddle. I don’t think I’m the only one to have lost interest. Nice idea. Wrong execution.

I will try to have a look at what you wrote in the café this morning. I have been doing other things, not only on Gransnet. Thank you for contributing.

I wonder if this thread will be featured in Gransnet daily tomorrow.

As far as I am aware, none of the French one's have, thus far.

Have there been any arguments on the French threads about chickens?

I just remembered something. Wasn't there a hack some time ago, to do with 'something' and quite a few threads appeared on here in forrin? (I am only saying forrin as I can't remember what language it was in)

I've just found this. Someone suggesting feedback opportunities on GN! They'll be plotting revolutions next-OH! I've just thought is that why there are so many French threads??? Are you organising? I've got my knitting ready. (But someone will have to tell me when it starts my French isn't good enough)

If a thread appears in a foreign language, on my tablet there appears a popup at the bottom for the whole thread to translate into English so, hey presto, I can read it all sans problème!

Crikey I dont know if it's a rule or not, I just made that up. I can see why you might need to have such a rule though. You could have a troll for example completely dominating the forum.
