Imbalance in feedback opportunities

Every thread has a link to report the thread to GNHQ.

Yet no link to inform GNHQ that one thinks that a thread is good.

Every post has a link to report the post to GNHQ.

Yet no link to inform GNHQ that one thinks that a post is good.

So GNHQ may well get unbalanced feedback.

My further thoughts on this, fwiw.

The original French-only thread got bogged down in a discussion about EPs shopping and eating habits and baby food. Participants probably lost interest at that point. I know I did. This morning, I tried starting a new topic but no takers. Fair enough.

The thread where people can ask question in English about what is being discussed in the French cafe is, as I write, about the mechanics of using Google Translate and more stuff about baby food, Immediately before that was a childish and tedious quote-nesting competition which, again, lost my interest.

The thread which I had understood to be about writing a story in the French past historic has morphed into a discussion in English about book construction. Interesting but not what the topic was supposed to be about.

The beginners’ French thread ended up in an argument and has had no interest since last Thursday.

Thread drift is nothing new on discussion forums but this whole French thing has become a dissatisfying muddle. I don’t think I’m the only one to have lost interest. Nice idea. Wrong execution.

I will try to have a look at what you wrote in the café this morning. I have been doing other things, not only on Gransnet. Thank you for contributing.

I wonder if this thread will be featured in Gransnet daily tomorrow.

As far as I am aware, none of the French one's have, thus far.

Have there been any arguments on the French threads about chickens?

Oops. Sorry OP.

Quite alright ma'am. Felt quite honoured that I was thought good enough.

Not more "older people have problems with information technology" sayings! Oh no! Which generation produced it all in the first place!

Not information technology, with several languages spinning around in my head at once.

Ploughing through this thread makes me feel as if I am Lost in France (sung by Welsh Bonnie Tyler who lives in Portugal).

?

Perhaps one thread at a time might be a good idea otherwise it does get confusing especially for old duffers like me.

Oops cross-link to a thread about ageism!

I just remembered something. Wasn't there a hack some time ago, to do with 'something' and quite a few threads appeared on here in forrin? (I am only saying forrin as I can't remember what language it was in)
it was to do with something BIG but I've completely forgotten
I blame Bill Gates
Is that why there is a cap on the French threads? is there a cap? or is just a cap on chickens

Btw peasblossom, OP is a HE smile

Peasblossom Mon 02-Aug-21 13:57:36

Oops. Sorry OP.

Callistemon Mon 02-Aug-21 13:56:22

I think the OP is a 'he', not a she, Peasblossom

Peasblossom Mon 02-Aug-21 13:55:59

I've just found this. Someone suggesting feedback opportunities on GN! They'll be plotting revolutions next-OH! I've just thought is that why there are so many French threads??? Are you organising? I've got my knitting ready. (But someone will have to tell me when it starts my French isn't good enough)

Galaxy Mon 02-Aug-21 13:54:56

They have cameras in all our houses peasblossom. Did you not get the email.

Peasblossom Mon 02-Aug-21 13:53:41

I’m lost too?

Is the OP saying she can’t start any more language threads?

But how would HQ know it was a language thread when you start it?

If a thread appears in a foreign language, on my tablet there appears a popup at the bottom for the whole thread to translate into English so, hey presto, I can read it all sans problème!

Don't ask me how it works, Calendargirl.

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 12:56:07

grin

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 12:55:08

so there is a rule about how many threads you can start? confused is that in an hour, a day or a week? or even a month?
and have you started a thread about chickens?

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 12:37:59

Galaxy

Crikey I dont know if it's a rule or not, I just made that up. I can see why you might need to have such a rule though. You could have a troll for example completely dominating the forum.

You forgot the question mark Galaxy so I thought it was a statement!! grin sorry!

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 12:37:48

Perhaps I think in a way that is different from how other people think.

(Please note the use of 'different from')

I think that may be true
