Imbalance in feedback opportunities

Every thread has a link to report the thread to GNHQ.

Yet no link to inform GNHQ that one thinks that a thread is good.

Every post has a link to report the post to GNHQ.

Yet no link to inform GNHQ that one thinks that a post is good.

So GNHQ may well get unbalanced feedback.

grin Thsnks OP this thread has cheered me up rather bizarrely.

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 12:34:09

Or you will turn into un grenouille! grin

FarNorth Mon 02-Aug-21 12:34:06

Galaxy I don't think they've used judgement.
They've just thought 'Oh yes, too many' without realising the different purposes.

Perhaps if different people start threads about chickens, french, or anything else, it'll be fine.

After all there are often lots about Boris Johnson, which I ignore as supremely uninteresting.

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 12:33:05

So the poster who complained about the abundance of similar threads must be au fait about that very rule. Which means the poster themselves is either a stickler for reading the tule book back to front or has had the same complaint levelled at them once ot twice?
I would personally never have known this rule and it is certainly frequently abused by others than EP.

MawBe

Maybe enough with the moaning now though?
On to 4 pages- you have made your point, as have others. They have made suggestions which you might consider.

Yes, I think so, moaning has to stop at midday!

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 12:31:29

sad

Galaxy Mon 02-Aug-21 12:30:23

You were just very very naughty fanny. You let me down, you let the forum down and mostly you let yourself down.

Galaxy Mon 02-Aug-21 12:28:38

Actually is there a rule about how many threads you can start, in some ways I can see why that would make sense, if I started 20 threads on chickens I can see why that might be a problem for an internet forum. It's perfectly reasonable for them to use their judgement on that kind of thing.

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 12:28:04

Ah good, young Galaxy perhaps you can help me.

The worst ticking off that I have received (and am still smarting from smile) was in relation to my use of ‘rumour and speculation’, and being ‘unkind’.

Is that mentioned in The Official Rulebook?

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 12:25:31

I don't understand why you can't start more than one thread when you seem to have started quite a few grin including this one.

The report button is just to report, it's not to like something and I think that is how most old fashioned forums like this work tbh

Galaxy Mon 02-Aug-21 12:22:20

Me miss, me, I know the rules. grin

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 12:18:25

greenlady oh don’t get started on The Rules
No one, and I mean no one, knows what they actually are

greenlady102 Mon 02-Aug-21 12:15:44

I say this so many time on t'internet

This is a club and the club has rules. Go along with the rules or leave the club.

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 12:11:16

I think that it’s fair enough of the management to be honest EP
And yes, I do think that perhaps you do think differently (to / from / whatever) others.
But hey, don’t we all?
It’s just a compromise isn’t it, nothing more, nothing less.

MawBe Mon 02-Aug-21 12:11:05

Are you quite sure of your spelling?

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 12:09:13

If pedants' corner gets it's own heading, how about le coin francais?

MawBe Mon 02-Aug-21 12:07:52

ElderlyPerson Mon 02-Aug-21 12:05:11

Perhaps I think in a way that is different from how other people think.

(Please note the use of 'different from')

ElderlyPerson Mon 02-Aug-21 12:01:53

FannyCornforth

Three of your French threads are currently in the Active list.
I’ve just had a look at one and it seems to get a lot of traffic.
The perceived problem seems to be resolved smile

No, the problem still exists.

I cannot start more than one thread in any language.

So the format of a café and a garden as separate threads for other languages has been thudded as a result of the groaners.

So I am having a moan about people groaning and thudding other people's pleasure and opportunities when there is no harm in just letting other people enjoy themselves.

Galaxy Mon 02-Aug-21 11:51:09

Depends where you put them Fanny. wink

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 11:48:23

Galaxy

You cant say what you want on an internet board run by a company. Its daft to think you can.

No live chickens then? ?

Posts are posts if you don't like or understand them then ignore and read another.
It's censorship at someone's own incentive and agenda we should all be able to say what we want or what is the point of Gransnet if we have to think before we answer or posts even deleted.
I have had disagreements with some very nice people who didn't take it to heart.
It's like when I first started teaching you had to ask in the staff room which teacher sat in which chair and woe betide you if you picked someone else's mug of coffee up.
We should all agree to disagree if we feel so.

jaylucy Mon 02-Aug-21 11:20:03

Surely the number of people that responded to your thread gave an idea if it was popular or not ? I just didn't think that this all was supposed to be a popularity contest !
As an admin on a community noticeboard, I can say that when a post has been reported, and the reasons to choose from on the system are pretty narrow it really comes down to one person having to make a quick decision based on their own feelings or beliefs - there are no hard and fast rules.
