I popped out to give the dog a quick walk and when I returned it was gone.

There definitely seems to be double standards on Gransnet. Some well known people are shredded by posters but others? Double standards. Why?

Maudi Fri 12-Nov-21 10:23:24

Perhaps it's how many complaints they get about a post and if GN staff on at the time supports that view. I feel GN leans to the left.

Galaxy right, a correction, but even more creepy in a way.
Joanne Whaley was the nurse in the Singing Detective, but based on Gina Bellman who was the ‘muse’ behind Black Eyes.
Whalley and Bellman are strikingly similar

Galaxy Fri 12-Nov-21 10:34:18

Thanks fanny, I remember Joanne Whalley, I read a lot of Dennis Potter back in the day and some of it was very good, but it's interesting looking back on some of it from a feminist perspective I suppose.

But we’re old Curlywhirly and our opinions are clearly not to be taken seriously.

We even have our own self appointed Mary Whitehouse to ensure things don’t get out of hand.

Who could you mean curlywurly? Come on, out with it. Speak the truth and shame the devil ? ?

(I've just been off polishing my (imaginary) pearls)

Is it just that politicians and the Royal Family accept that they are fair game and won’t sue, while Meghan will?

I’m not in favour of reporting people. Ignoring them and their comments seems the best solution.
I find reporting and whistle blowing all very unpleasant.

Alegrias1 Fri 12-Nov-21 11:50:10

I find accusing public figures of heinous crimes with no evidence, and rampant racism, sexism or xenophobia unpleasant. And possibly illegal...

The idea that GN is more lightly moderated than MN is just not true. There are threads on here that wouldng last 30 seconds on MN, I am often astounded having come from MN as to what you can say on here.

You mean more heavily moderated surely?

Yes admitting to telling lies in Court documents to win a large settlement is illegal - Jeffrey Archer went to prison for doing just that. I wonder whether there will be and judicial consequences for MM now that she has admitted doing the same?

Jaxjacky Fri 12-Nov-21 12:17:13

I agree Alegrias1, I also find the trait of some on GN to demean and poke fun at male members of their family unnecessary and nasty, whilst referencing them with a D for Dear or Darling. I don’t know if it happens on MN, but if a man did it to female members of their family on here there would be uproar, but instead, others sympathise, ‘oh I’ve got one like that’.

Just in case I wasn't clear.

I mean that people showing those things on GN need to be reported. Somebody telling me I'm a busybody, I can live with that. grin

Maudi Fri 12-Nov-21 12:58:18

Well I might not be Miss Marple but I think I've just worked out who the fastest finger on the report button belongs to. ? Anyone else solved the mystery ?

Alegrias1 Fri 12-Nov-21 13:05:36

I'm put in mind of the witch trials of the 17th Century.

I accuse you of witchcraft!

It wasn't me.

See, she denies it, but I know better, burn the witch.

grin

Maudi Fri 12-Nov-21 13:37:26

Brings to mind a line from Hamlet "The lady doth protest too much. methinks" ?

Alegrias1 Fri 12-Nov-21 13:38:25

Yeah, you said that about me earlier in the week too.

Did you think I'd not heard you?

Galaxy Fri 12-Nov-21 13:39:20

This is about as unpleasant as it gets and cowardly.

Zoejory Fri 12-Nov-21 13:41:45

Who wants to see a kangaroo with his teddy bear?

Alegrias1 Fri 12-Nov-21 13:42:08

I really, REALLY hope nobody reports this because I'll get blamed for that too grin

Maudi Fri 12-Nov-21 13:45:14

I agree it is unpleasant and cowardly to keep reporting posts and posters to GN to get them removed, so why do people keep doing it then. Please tell

FannyCornforth Fri 12-Nov-21 13:45:43

The hilarious part is the person who reported might not even be on this thread

Galaxy Fri 12-Nov-21 13:47:23

I have no idea. And no idea who you are talking about. Sorry that I am unable to help in your important quest.
