Shelflife
I don't know anything about EV and was ready to support her return . Have seen now she was posting homophobic posts! I have thought long and hard about this and can probably forgive her due to her age .
However , had I read those homophobic comments I would have been extremely upset indeed!
Very odd the HQ are not responding!!???
Homophobia is a no-no for me! However, I must say that I have possibly more than 20 gay friends and not one of them would make the ageist comment that you make in your post, Shelflife. But we're all different, we are all upset or angered by completely different things in life and sometimes we all speak out of turn or say things we later regret. We can all take offence but often it's more sensible just to walk on by and ignore things that we cannot instantly change in people that we know very little about.
Well done, Urms for thinking to start this thread, although I don't hold out a lot of hope for a measured response from those who banned a very popular poster. 5 pages of posts here in support of Ellan and not a squeak from GNHQ. Here we are again!
Cheesey describes Ellan Vannin accurately. She is not a poor old lady. She's someone who is warm-hearted, kind and considerate. She never puts herself first, never complains, never moans or craves attention and is the matriarch of a family who are so lucky to have her; her friends are lucky too. When lockdown struck, her uncomplaining, (crumpet-filled posts), were humorous, caring, interested as well as interesting. She is always self-deprecating, saw the funny side in difficult times and was the first to offer comfort and wise advice to anyone she felt was in difficulties. On her own maybe, but filled many of us with admiration as she pulled those big girl pants up high and got on with her life.
Given that the person she upset and offended has posted here and generously asked that she be reinstated, and was not the person who reported her, we must draw the conclusion that someone rushed off to snatch the moral high ground in the hope that Ellan would be silenced. Amongst adults, one would have hoped for a lot better.
Gransnet is awash with posters who have been banned but who have returned - sometimes having learned nothing from an enforced absence and who are frequently involved in all sorts of unpleasantness. To permanently deprive one long-standing
and popular GN member of contact with so many Grans who looked forward to her daily posts is beyond draconian - it beggars belief. I just despair.
