Well part sold.
An online article yesterday.
I presume Gransnet would be part of the package.

Justine would be still on the Board but lose control.

Sorry if this has been said upthread but surely we are already international? Or do you think this means branching out into other languages etc?

Off the top of my head I can only think of, 1 Australian, one Canadian, one Maltese, 3 Americans members. Apologies to those I’ve forgotten 😉
I hardly think this makes the site international

kittylester Mon 02-Feb-26 17:24:01

I think we have some French and Spanish members too.

I'm sorry but l dont see this Justine woman as some kind of Silver Surfer Saviour.

She is a harrbnosed business woman, just look at the money she has made with Mumsnet. Multiple millions of pounds

She is looking for the best deal. We willl have to wait and see what happens to Gransnet

I don't agree with this at all.

In the early days, Justine joined in with threads occasionally and has interaction with us.

I don't mind her making money from something she was brave enough to set up and which has given me enormous pleasure, and help, over the 14 or so years that I have been a member.

I hope it doesn't become slick and blingy - i like the homeliness.

Well said, kittylester 👏👏👏

I think there's more than one Australian although only one posts regularly, and from New Zealand too.

Apologies if there are more 👋

Going "international" would be more like tw itter[small scale] would it not?

And I imagine MN would feature as being the most important part of the Company.

If they close GN where will I go for stuff like how can I thicken my hair, cut my hard toenails, get knickers that don't cut into my thighs. There's no substitute for grans.

Hey you can have some of my hair - I have to have it thinned out once a month, looks crazy otherwise 😀😀😀
I agree with your sentiments !

Lovetopaint037 Tue 03-Feb-26 00:46:59

Flutterby I so agree with you. My aging body needs Gransnet.

rafichagran Tue 03-Feb-26 01:15:05

I love Mumsnet, I like the varying subject matter. Its more fiesty and I don't have to watch my language.
I enjoy Gransnet as well and I would hate to see it go. I like both for different reasons.

Has GN grown since in was launched?
I’ve been on here years and it still seems pretty small & quiet in comparison to MN. I’m not sure GN needs its own site and could easily be incorporated back into MN, which I’m sure was the case originally?

kittylester Tue 03-Feb-26 09:00:47

I only joined GN a couple of months after it was launched and I would hate it to be incorporated into MN.

Me too!
I glance in to Mumsnet on rare occasions but it is so fast moving it's all too much!

We do need to increase traffic on grand net, though, if a potential buyer wants to regard it as viable. It does get rather quiet from time to time.
After all, they will be in it for the profit, not for altruistic purposes.

Let’s say you are a private equity investor considering whether to put money into a minor social media platform which is aimed predominantly at women under the age of 50. It has been trading for 25 years since 2000 but only makes post-tax profits of £2.6 million.

When you undertake due diligence, you discover that there is a subsidiary platform aimed at older women which has been trading for 14 years. It has made a loss every year of its existence. It is currently losing over half a million pounds every year and only continues to operate via support from the parent company.

You want to see a return on your investment.

What do you do?

Casdon Tue 03-Feb-26 11:13:05

Amalgamate them.

fancythat Tue 03-Feb-26 11:30:10

How would amalgamtaion work?
Have gransnet as one of the topics??

Allira Tue 03-Feb-26 11:55:22

Amalgamate them.

😲
We need our safe space!

petra Tue 03-Feb-26 12:17:49

Graphite
I posted on page one that I wouldn’t buy it. I also stated that
MN have been subsidising GN.
Amalgamation won’t work.
Justine has a conundrum. She wants to expand MN so has to raise money but no hedge fund investors would touch a loss making social media site, that’s unless they have a social conscience.
But they are a bit low on the ground, aren’t they 🤷‍♀️

Yes, but it could be done as a group within Mumsnet, they already have them for other groups. Anybody can already join Gransnet, so it’s not a safe space really anyway, it’s just that we have a lot of regular posters.

I think this thread in itself shows a problem
It was started at 6 pm on Sunday. It is now Tuesday 4.30pm.
Only 25 people have commented.

kittylester Tue 03-Feb-26 16:50:46

That's a bit unfair, petra. Lots of threads go wild.

I agree Kitty but I assumed there would be a bigger response than this. Oh well, it is what it is 🤷‍♀️

Gummie Tue 03-Feb-26 17:13:28

Hopefully they will modernise the site.

Maremia Tue 03-Feb-26 18:25:44

Maybe we're just in shock, at the thought of the potential loss?
