We've been asked by L'Oreal to find out from gransnetters about beauty tips that have been passed between the generations.

So, what beauty tips did you get from your mother? Maybe she had some great skincare tips that you've followed for years? Or perhaps you have some beauty tips that you've shared with your daughter? Or maybe some tips that you definitely won't be handing down!

Whatever your top tips are - L'Oreal would love to hear about them!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a L'Oreal goodie bag worth £200.

Please note your anonymous comments may be included on L'Oreal's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

My mum always said.....treat your feet as you do your hands, use hand cream on both before bed and paint your nails.

Always always always take make up off at night, no matter how drunk or tired! And cleanse, tone & moisturise! So simple, but invaluable!

Moisturise, moisturise from my Nam to me and me to my daughters. Also keep it natural. Not too much slap and definitely no surgery/Botox unless horribly deforned.

My mother always to drum into us four girls the merits of having good skin, from an early age (about 14 years old) she introduced us to Ponds cold cream and rose water she swore by it and to be fair her skin always looked good, I used it for years, them started using new creams that came on the market, a few years ago I re discovered the ponds cream and rose water and it's been with ever since, is my skin any better? well I like to think so. I know it's been around along time, but why mend something when its not broken .. I love it and so does my daughter. We also like to rub a little bit of olive oil into our body, keeps our skin feeling soft and silky.

My mum always said never ever go to bed with make up and she was right as if I ever did (when I was younger) my skin would break out. My mum only ever used unexpensive cold cream on her face and at 74 she has amazing skin! I have passed this on to my daughter and she removes her make up religiously every night and has beautiful skin.

Drink plenty of water to keep my skin clear. I still do this drinking up to 3 litres a day and I never drink tea or coffee. People always assume I am 10 - 15 years younger than I am and are shocked when they find out how old I am (55). My mum (81) looks much younger than a lot of 70 year olds I know.

Face steaming cleans your complexion. Boil water in a saucepan, add a bag of camomile tea, cover face with a towel and steam it for 10min. Do it once a week and your face will always look radiant!

My mother always told me to spend most of my money on good shoes and a good bed as if you're not in one, you're in the other. Good advice I think.

My mum used olive oil on her skin, and Vaseline for lips. She used both those products on me. That was in the fifties and sixties when olive oil came in tiny bottles from the chemist. When I went to have my eyebrows plucked a few years ago I asked my beautician friend if she'd recommend any facial treatment specifically for me since she knew I'd once had an allergic reaction to some cosmetic ingredients and she told me that the best thing for skin was olive oil! And I think I've read that many models use Vaseline for lipcare, so perhaps the simple old ways are the best. They're certainly the cheapest ;)

My mum told me never to wash my face with soap and I never have.

My own great gran's tip was to drink a glass of tepid water every day with freshly squeezed lemon in it, to keep the skin clear. She had amazing skin, so it must have worked.

My mother told me never to use soap on my face.

My mum wasn't big on beauty tips but she always used a moisturiser - Creme Simone or Cream Simon as she called it. I've followed her routine with more up to date moisturisers and so far, at 64, still have smooth wrinkle free skin, a combination of good genes and good advice.

lilmiztam22 Mon 16-Feb-15 00:44:18

My mum always told me to moisterise both my face and neck every day and I swear by it

lizm Mon 16-Feb-15 10:33:53

Always put handcream on before going to bed at night. Seems to work well...

LesleyE1231 Mon 16-Feb-15 11:16:09

My mother swears by simply moisturising morning and night.

strawberrinan Mon 16-Feb-15 14:29:59

Always carry Vaseline in your bag. It can be used for everything from smoothing eyebrows to softening skin to protecting skin against wind damage

angusyoung Mon 16-Feb-15 15:19:26

I was told to always always remove all of your makeup before going to bed. I have to be honest and say I don't always though!

I was raised by my father and grand father. My dad always told me less is more and my grandfather once told me 'beauty is natural'

Mullen2017 Mon 16-Feb-15 16:26:34

Eat healthy and moisturize.

Maren Mon 16-Feb-15 17:37:10

My mum taught me to use conditioner for shaving my legs instead of shaving gel do the hairs grow back softer and the razor slides along she skin better

chrisparham Mon 16-Feb-15 19:45:25

My mum told me to wash your skin with cold water every day nothing else because it wakes your skin up and purifies it too

greig23 Mon 16-Feb-15 20:39:53

always moisturise before you go to bed and when you wake up. tokeep your skin looking good

milliemoon1 Mon 16-Feb-15 21:02:17

My mum still can't look at me without commenting on how much blusher I have on or that my concealers not smudged in correctly... I think it's taught me to tone it down over the years so I try to look a bit more natural with my make up.

claire9414 Mon 16-Feb-15 21:49:26

I was told to moisturize day and night and to drink plenty of water.
