Take Five, have launched their new ‘Too Smart To Be Scammed?’ test, as part of Take Five to Stop Fraud week and they would love you to take the test and share your result and your thoughts.

Here’s what Take Five have to say: “Take Five to Stop Fraud is a national campaign that offers advice to help everyone protect themselves from preventable financial fraud. It educates individuals to help them spot scams and urges people to stop and consider whether the situation is genuine – to Take Five and think if what you’re being told really makes sense. Remember, ‘My money? My info? I don’t think so.”

It is becoming increasingly difficult to spot a scam as criminals are more sophisticated than ever; however there are still steps you can take to protect yourself and learn how to spot a scam before you have given away any personal details. Take the test, find out if you’re too smart to be scammed and let us know what you think. How did you score? Did you learn a new way to protect yourself from scams and frauds? What did you find the hardest about spotting a scam? Were there any bits you were surprised you got wrong or right?

Everyone who takes the quiz and posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

8 out of 8 - yay!!

pinkjj27 Sat 03-Feb-18 20:02:21

I got 8 out of 8. Sadly My mum was defrauded years ago before on line banking !! I trust one one and and I am suspicious of anything a little out of the ordinary. I actually assume things are scams when they may be Innocent. Although i knew the 2 about the bank calling or texting I would still probably visit the bank rather than call.

Gold star for me, I got 8/8. I had unauthorised transactions on my credit card account earlier this year which was very stressful. I didn't think the emails from my credit card company were genuine at first so I nearly didn't call them! It's very difficult to know what is genuine and what isn't but caution is always best.

7/8 The Yes No buttons from bank seemed a bit suspect to me, better to be safe than sorry, I would have rung the bank directly as they said they had blocked account.

Minnibix Sat 03-Feb-18 20:36:06

I scored 6 out of 8 but that was because I did not read the message to see that it was a really weird telephone number. I think I am quite well up on scam messages but this quiz just goes to show you should question everything

6 out of 8. Thought two genuine messages were fake.....but thereagain, I don't do any banking on line so consider anything I get that purports to be from my bank is fraudulent

s861421 Sat 03-Feb-18 20:42:03

7 out of 8, quite pleased really

Jojohalsey Sat 03-Feb-18 20:45:30

6/8 - got to get better!!

priorslee Sat 03-Feb-18 20:47:34

7/8 for me. Would have been 8 if I could have answered 'depends if I recognised the transactions in the text'!

Cailin7 Sat 03-Feb-18 21:01:21

I got 7/8. I think it is better to be over cautious.

melski1989 Sat 03-Feb-18 21:05:03

7/8, darn! I'm super cautious about this sort of stuff too.

caocao Sat 03-Feb-18 21:14:03

7/8 because I was over cautious on question 6. I would always look up a phone number online or on the back of my bank card if in doubt - in fact I did so when a message popped up asking me to call them whilst making an online payment last week rather than use the number on screen.

Twilight123 Sat 03-Feb-18 22:13:49

I scored 6 out of 8. If I thought a bank wanted me to call them, I would never phone the number that they text/message me on, but one from my statement.

pfcpompeysarah Sat 03-Feb-18 22:39:39

I got 6/8, I am fairly cynical of anything that comes through by text/email asking me to click on something for financial details or to change logins but on one answer I was too cautious and it was a genuine alert. I have been the victim of credit card fraud before to the tune of several thousand pounds and luckily the bank agree to meet the cost out of insurance rather than chasing me for it, although in all honesty it was their mistake in the first place!!

beckyinman Sat 03-Feb-18 22:48:24

7 out of 8

MotherHubbard Sat 03-Feb-18 22:59:36

Another 8/8 but not too smug as only recently I opened an email from Sky and it was only when it took me through to a page to fill in bank details I realised it was suspicious. Ended up with some nasty spam and my Sky account being blocked for real which took ages to unlock.

vonnie52 Sat 03-Feb-18 23:55:01

7/8 So not too bad.

jcyclops Sun 04-Feb-18 00:16:59

I could spot the difference between the genuine and fraudulent messages, but there is only one of the genuine ones that would actually cause me to get in touch.

lorilizy Sun 04-Feb-18 06:50:38

I scored 7/8 - I got the question about a text message wrong

lizd31 Sun 04-Feb-18 09:14:41

I scored 7/8 but it was because I was being over cautious & not trusting one of the genuine text messages

SusieWilkinson Sun 04-Feb-18 09:16:27

8/8, I get quite a lot of scam emails, but I think they way to deal with it is if you are in any doubt, ring the company concerned yourself on the number you already hold for them to check.

Crispy123 Sun 04-Feb-18 10:17:46

I got 6/8. I was a bit thrown by the bank telephone nos to ring as I would only ring ones I know as shown on my banking card.

starrybee Sun 04-Feb-18 13:12:00

7/8 for being overcautious...which I don't think is a bad thing!

tubbyj Sun 04-Feb-18 13:31:26

I got 8 out of 8

Entiendo Sun 04-Feb-18 14:15:55

I was surprised that I only scored 6/8 I never reply directly from a text or email link, I use internet banking and use Live Chat facility if I have any concerns.
