Just seen an article about the Closing Ceremony. Now's our chance to plead for our case, namely that it is not ruined by ageing rock stars, wheezing their old hits and displaying their hair dyes!
_Here's my list of the banned_:
*Paul McCartney+
Elton John
Cliff Richard
Brian May
Tom Jones
Kylie
Madonna [as if]
_Exceptions to the above_:
Mick Jagger and the Stones
Shirley Bassey
Elvis Presley grin
Any others for either list?

The Rio display knocked spots off the London bus 'extravaganza' at the end of the Beijing games.

She's going to be in a minute.

grannyactivist Sun 12-Aug-12 23:42:00

Saving the best until the last?

AlisonMA Sun 12-Aug-12 23:42:59

Missed the Elgar, will have to watch the recording

Ariadne Sun 12-Aug-12 23:44:38

And - I can understand that it might be too much for the Queen, but surely Charles should have been there?

NfkDumpling Sun 12-Aug-12 23:44:41

I do hope so. Darcy and Elgar. Get your hankie's out!

NfkDumpling Sun 12-Aug-12 23:46:18

Perhaps the Queen, Phillip, Charles and Will have all gone down with a tummy bug.

Annobel Sun 12-Aug-12 23:49:46

I heard that William had gone back to work! Doesn't Harry do any work?

Anagram Sun 12-Aug-12 23:51:31

That's it - Take That...I'm off to bed!

AlisonMA Sun 12-Aug-12 23:56:29

NO, THERE ARE NOT 200 BALLERINAS IN THE ROYAL BALLET! AND OME OF THEM ARE MEN!

nanaej Sun 12-Aug-12 23:56:29

Are you still watching Alison here's Darcy!!

NfkDumpling Sun 12-Aug-12 23:57:19

Yay!

nanaej Sun 12-Aug-12 23:58:09

Ah! you are here! Indeed 200 would be a huge corps de ballet! Silly commentator!

AlisonMA Mon 13-Aug-12 00:01:21

Sorry but DB still doesn't do it for me and I thought the choreography of the pas de cinq was dreadful. I would be very surprised to hear that those guys were from the RB but maybe they were and it was just terrible choreography. The BBC should not comment if they don't know what they are talking about.

Annobel Mon 13-Aug-12 00:01:26

Just when you think it's almost all over, why do they have to drag on the Who?

nanaej Mon 13-Aug-12 00:02:10

& now the Who..good grief! My Generation..literally!

Annobel Mon 13-Aug-12 00:02:16

Not that I have anything against the Who.

grannyactivist Mon 13-Aug-12 00:02:54

Glad I didn't miss Darcy. grin
Well, I didn't expect that! The Who - in person(s).
Bravo to all the participants: athletes, volunteers, performers, organisers....etc.flag

Annobel Mon 13-Aug-12 00:05:24

I really don't think that dance number was meant for ballet connoisseurs, Alison. Enough that it was part of the spectacle and you must admit that her entrance was spectacular!

AlisonMA Mon 13-Aug-12 00:07:32

Looks like the athletes and audience are having a great time so that is all that matters. Bet I'll hear about nothing else for days when DH comes home tomorrow. You won't seem me on GN after about 6 pm from now on as I usually switch off in the evening and spend the time with himself.

AlisonMA Mon 13-Aug-12 00:09:06

Yes, you are right Annobel and I'm jetlagged and not used to being on my own at night or awake at this time so sorry if I am a bit grumpy about my 'specialist subject'

yogagran Mon 13-Aug-12 00:10:15

Fantastic show - everyone should be congratulated flag

AlisonMA Mon 13-Aug-12 00:13:07

I'm off to bed now to sleep for a very long time. Good night all.

Ariadne Mon 13-Aug-12 08:59:23

It wasn't particularly my scene but it was still nevertheless impressive and it certainly pleased most of the people there.

Ah well, back to TV reality. (As opposed to reality TV, you understand!)

I liked the idea of 60 years of Brit pop music, but it got a bit boring in parts.

Liked John Lennon being featured, how could he not be? But surprised no Elton or Robbie W.

Did you notice Seb Coe say "Your Majesty" in his opening speech? She wasn't there! And he called Harry, Prince Henry. I wondered for a minute who they'd fished up now.
