His last major championship , how he will be missed

yggdrasil Fri 04-Aug-17 11:26:35

Liam Malone, one of our para-athletes with no legs, reckons he will beat Usain Bolt's record with in the next 3 years :-)

Anniebach Fri 04-Aug-17 12:00:45

He will have to speed up ?

ninathenana Fri 04-Aug-17 13:28:01

Missed by some.

whitewave Fri 04-Aug-17 18:02:34

Opening ceremony.

Gives me the shivers as it reminds me of the wonderful olympics.

Anniebach Fri 04-Aug-17 18:34:50

Go Mo,

whitewave Fri 04-Aug-17 18:36:41

annie did you see the programme the other night about Bolt. What a lovely chap smile

Riverwalk Fri 04-Aug-17 19:01:56

I think a Knighthood would be appropriate.

Sir Usain.

whitewave Fri 04-Aug-17 19:04:14

grin I'm sure he'll get something. Everyone else has!!

Anniebach Fri 04-Aug-17 19:16:25

Yes whitewave, I am a strong supporter of Bolt, he deserves a knighthood Gary Sobers was given one .

Anniebach Fri 04-Aug-17 21:50:03

Well done Mo, you are great.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 00:12:32

One of my sons and his family were there. What a fantastic spectacle to watch.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 00:15:19

Do you think Mo will return to the UK once he has stopped racing?
He will not need to train as much.

Anniebach Sat 05-Aug-17 08:49:38

I wouldn't be surprised if they settled in America, i don't think he had the same respect as British born athletes

whitewave Sat 05-Aug-17 08:55:01

dj and mine!!! He has tickets for the whole weekend and next weekend as well I think.

He is reliving the Olympics I think.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 09:17:25

They can't afford all that, whitewave. Have you seen the price of the tickets?

They had to pay full price for the kids for one of the sessions, as there were no family tickets left. £50 each. It was probably worth it for Mo.
I hope my grandson coped with the noise!
We're hoping it makes him realise what you have to do when running his own 10ks.

whitewave Sat 05-Aug-17 09:21:40

Oh yes my son has no children, makes a massive difference and if course we live very close. He motors up to Ebbfleet I think and takes the train-one stop- to Stratford.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 09:33:07

Apparently Mo is going to do roadrunning from now on.
Lots of that over in the UK.
My son is going to do the Morpeth to Newcastle marathon this year, a good roadrun.

durhamjen Sat 05-Aug-17 17:19:55

I find this very sad.

inews.co.uk/opinion/im-olympic-champion-i-serving-coffee-soon/

This is what could happen when they are no longer champions.

Anniebach Sat 05-Aug-17 23:03:44

I had a doubt that Bolt would take gold after watching the semi yesterday but Bronze! And a drugs cheat takes gold

Tegan2 Sat 05-Aug-17 23:15:26

I, too thought he wouldn't win tonight. It often happens that, the more a sporting event gets 'bigged up' the more of a disappointment it turns out to be. Mind you, at least it was over quickly; I spent all of Mo's race last night convinced he was going to get beat. It was like watching penalty shoot outs. Think I was more exhausted than him at the end of it!

Pittcity Sun 06-Aug-17 08:39:29

DD1 had our tickets as we are on holiday. She said that a streaker ran the 100m before the final!
We live 45 mins away on the train.

Tegan2 Sun 06-Aug-17 11:45:30

I don't like the way they're making these sporting events more 'showbizzy'.

Anniebach Sun 06-Aug-17 11:55:30

The big events , Olympics, World, Commonwealth games should be celebrated , the joy and excitement on the faces of youngsters was wonderful to see.

Grannyknot Sun 06-Aug-17 13:27:49

whitewave I loved that programme. I was struck by how he had to rein in his playfulness when in serious training, but it still came out didn't it? smile I think he is amazing.
