His last major championship , how he will be missed

granny yes a lovely young man, who was able to resist just like Marley did, the lure of America and American culture.

He stayed true to his roots and deserves to be recognised. I have no doubt he will make up for all the years of extraordinary hard work by having a good time now. And very well deserved it will be.

Anyone watching the women's marathon?

London's sparkling in the sunshine! sunshine

Anybody else a bit sorry for Christian Coleman, who also beat Bolt but whose achievement was swamped by Gatlin's history?

Jomarie Sun 06-Aug-17 21:18:57

Yes] grumppa - I agree with you - such a shame for him to be doing so well (CC) and then be "gazumped" by Gatlin - life just ain't fair !!

Anniebach Sun 06-Aug-17 22:03:00

Yes Grumppa, I felt really sorry for Coleman,

I'm not into sport at all but couldn't miss this story of course, it was everywhere. This is probably a bit naive of me but how can you be banned twice (or even once) and then be allowed to compete? Given that its your performance that counts but you take a drug to enhance that performance how is that not fundamentally incompatible with being a competitive athlete? Am I missing something? Sorry if this is a stupid question

Mo won silver, pity he couldn't have gone out with a gold, but silver is great .

Now waiting for Bolt, feeling really ashamed, we have a British team in the final tonight but I am cheering for Jamaica,

Tegan2 Sat 12-Aug-17 21:28:13

Team tactics did for Mo sad...

Anniebach Sat 12-Aug-17 21:30:34

True Tegan.

Gold for G.B. and N.I, well, done, well run, well deserved

Bolt seemed to have suffered an injury

Tegan2 Sat 12-Aug-17 22:12:53

Wow; so chuffed; we've followed Adam throughout his career. Shame about Bolt. Hope it doesn't overshadow our achievement. And, all I was hoping for was that we wouldn't drop the baton....

Anniebach Sat 12-Aug-17 22:17:37

Tegan, same for me, over the years we have had several baton drops, . BUT WE DID IT THIS TIME and third best time ever run in the 4 x 100

Tegan2 Sat 12-Aug-17 22:20:45

With my 'glass half full' mentality I sit there before the race saying 'of course, we'll drop the baton' and then after the race I sit there saying 'did we do anything wrong; are you SURE we didn't do anything wrong...we MUST have done something wrong...'

Anniebach Sat 12-Aug-17 22:40:25

When it was said there appeared to be an objection by Germany I did have a little panic but what ever it was, it wasn't us.

And a silver for the girls too, well done them . We have gone from 13th to 5th in the medals table after winning two silver and one gold this evening. Yeeeeeppppeee

BlueBelle Sun 13-Aug-17 08:22:57

Maryliza I think although the guy had to be banned there were some question marks around the drugs he used The first ban was presumable because of a drug he had taken since childhood for ADHD so if you like not taken purposely to enhance his running The second was a mystery as he was adamant he had taken nothing in the end they put it down to a muscle rub used by his physio and possibly containing a banned substance Now only he knows if he was innocent or guilty both times but I think there were enough question marks to not ban him for life and if they were both innocent mistakes and I did say IF, how sad for him

maryeliza54 Sun 13-Aug-17 09:54:48

Thanks for that BlueBelle I really shouldn't get involved in discussions on sport as I know so little. I was just amazed that someone could be banned twice and come back. Can you be banned for life? I think I'm right in saying that tests on old samples are now revealing banned drug use years later as the testing procedures get more sophisticated? It's all very sad really and I suppose is a result of sport being increasingly big business
