OMG just imagine opening against Djokovic on Centre Court at the age of 19. I suppose somebody has to play him.
Nothing to lose, but I hope Jack Draper is out there for a reasonable length of time!
Emotional introduction to this opening match - felt quite teary!

Yes!

And well played Karolina Pliskova

Yes Grandmadinosaur

Fantastic match. Well played to both.

Did anyone watch the ladies doubles ? Fantastic match., BUT I though the presentation was very lacklustre. Why didn’t they have a royal on court to present ?

Well done Ashleigh Barty a really enjoyable final. Anyone else getting emotional ?

Oh totally ?

Callistemon Sat 10-Jul-21 20:56:42

She's not just an Aussie - she's a Queenslander!

Great ladies singles final. Congratulations to Ashleigh Barty, I was so rooting for her I shed a tear as she won.
So wonderful to reach her dream at such a young age. Hope to see a lot more of her.
I’m enjoying the new youngsters getting their chances.

She isn't that young - age 25, is World Number 1 and was Wimbledon Girls' champion age 15 but took some time out.

Callistemon Sat 10-Jul-21 22:23:51

Well done to the Croatians

J52 Sat 10-Jul-21 22:25:03

I stand corrected!! 25 seems quite young to me compared to those playing who are in their late 39s.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the match.

Callistemon Sat 10-Jul-21 22:30:28

Yes, it is but some are only 17 or 18.

Is there a time to retire gracefully I wonder?

Callistemon Sat 10-Jul-21 22:32:41

British pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have won a fourth Wimbledon men's wheelchair doubles title, beating the Netherlands' Tom Egberink and Belgium's Joachim Gerard 7-5 6-2.

We don't hold that against her.

She took time out and played cricket for Australia for a while. Eventually choosing to pursue tennis as her career.

Who will you all be cheering on this afternoon in the men’s final?
Although I know what a really talented player Djokovic is, somehow I can’t warm to him so I won’t be cheering him on.
Interestingly his opponent is Italian!

Millie22 Sun 11-Jul-21 12:35:31

Obviously Berrettini.
Lucca may agree with me ?

merlotgran Sun 11-Jul-21 12:36:35

I’ll be cheering for Berrettini because he’s gorgeous. Quite happy for Italy to have the tennis. ?

Pittcity Sun 11-Jul-21 13:13:12

I'll be rooting for Italy before 8pm. Forza Berrettini!!!

Sparklefizz Sun 11-Jul-21 13:36:22

Me too. Quite happy for Italy to have the tennis, and much prefer Berrettini to Djokovich. Really hope it's not McEnroe commentating as he always mispronounces Djokovich and Joke - o - vich, and it bugs me each time I hear it.

NanKate Sun 11-Jul-21 13:46:33

I agree Sparklefizz very odd pronunciation.

Let’s settle down and do everything we can to encourage Berrettini to beat old ‘smug face’.

Anniebach Sun 11-Jul-21 13:50:41

Djokovic, so many seem to dislike him, he is great player , and
when he is on court I get glimpses of Goran ?

nanna8 Sun 11-Jul-21 13:55:15

I like Djokovic, hope he wins. Good sport weekend with Ash Barty, lovely young woman and on a minor scale, my team St Kilda (AFL) won for the third time in a row

Goran Ivanišević is Croatian

LauraNorder Sun 11-Jul-21 14:09:56

I love to watch Djokovic, he is so talented. Not keen on the aggressive faces and punches which so many of them seem to need to keep the adrenaline flowing.
I like Berrettini too, very good player.
May the best man win.
I think that’ll be Novak Djokovic
