I fear it’s Djokovic again this year. Brilliant player but I just can’t warm to him.

Just seen Alex de Minaur has withdrawn through injury.

Yes, really sorry to hear that, partly because it gives Djokovic a bye. John McEnroe thinks the crowd is against Djokovic because he’s such a good player?! I just like every other player on the tour better! 🤣

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that.

I love Ostapenko and would really like her to win. She’s different and quirky. Can either be brilliant or dreadful. I hope she’s on form today.

Grandmadinosaur Wed 10-Jul-24 13:59:17

I was sorry to hear about De Minaur too. I really hope Alcaraz wins but he’s had a fight on his hands the last couple of matches.

I disagree with John McEnroe re Djokovic. That opinion is rubbish. If it was down to him being a good player then we wouldn’t like Alcaraz, Nadal et al.

tickingbird Wed 10-Jul-24 15:00:45

Well that’s Ostapenko gone. I’d like Medvedev to win - another quirky character but it could be a tough match against Alcaraz and whoever wins will have a fresh, rested Djokovic waiting 😟

Oops getting ahead of myself. Djokovic still has to play the semi final.

I'm the same.

Is Notagran around today? Was hoping for a report on her day out at SW19 yesterday.

TillyTrotter Wed 10-Jul-24 17:06:44

Good to see the way the Fritz v Musetti match is shaping up.
I think Fritz will win.

ixion Wed 10-Jul-24 17:19:35

Enjoying this match.
Come on Musetti!

Me too!

And me!

I'd love to go. Every year we try to get tickets through the ballot but no luck so far.

Grandmadinosaur Wed 10-Jul-24 18:36:23

I have been lucky enough to go a couple of times and it’s a brilliant day out. Silly devil that I am when they show all the shots of around the grounds and all the lovely flower displays etc it makes me emotional 🤣

Also I enjoyed the commentary too. Nick K and Tim H were good and so pleased Mr Castle wasn’t prattling away!

Bellasnana Wed 10-Jul-24 18:53:43

That was a great match to watch. Happy for Musetti and hoping he can knock Djokovic off his perch!

I had a great day yesterday as a neutral for the Sinner /Medvedev match. It was good to be able to applaud every great point.
Got a bit concerned when Sinner left the court, I don’t know what they did to him, but he came back a changed man for a while.
The weather was awful, with no play on the outside courts until quite late, resulting in huge queues everywhere as people took shelter in the eateries and loos it seems.
I must admit that I was surprised at the number of empty seats, late arrivals (one family arrived at the end of the 3rd set) champagne corks popping during play, wine bottles clanking etc.
Plus the young man next to me, who I think was Russian, sleeping šŸ’¤ through most of the first set! He had a flight tag on his bag and I can only think that he had been in the queue overnight for his ticket?

I’m very lucky to be going again tomorrow, Court 1, for the men’s doubles semi finals .
Better weather, and hopefully no long delays on the motorway like yesterday, fingers crossed šŸ¤ž

I’m glad that American Taylor Fritz is out. He apparently said nasty things at the end of a match to his opponent. Not at Wimbledon I don’t think. No need for nastiness to your defeated opponent.

Great first match for the ladies semi today.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 11-Jul-24 16:14:58

It is bridie worthy of a final.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 11-Jul-24 16:29:50

Yesss

bridie54 Thu 11-Jul-24 16:31:41

What a win for Paolini.
But so sad watching a very dejected leaving the court.
