The gymnasts are amazing. All of them but watching tiny Simone Biles launch herself without a springboard to do triple twists and seemingly float the air whilst rotating is incredible.
Their bravery is unbelievable.
Gymnastic competition floors are very well sprung. On vault, of course they use a sprung springboard, Not in any way putting down the tumbling skills of todays gymnasts (both men and women). These are Artistic Gymnasts, a lot of people in the sport would like to sell less emphasis on the tumbling and more on grace and dance.
There is (not in the Olympics), but in international gymnastics a separate tumbling competition, in which the gymnasts use a long, straight run on a tumble track. These 'tumblers' do triple somi's combined with twisting, etc. They are totally amazing.
Rebeca Andrade's floor exercise is an excellent example of combining tumbles with dance, etc. So pleased she took that final Gold Medal.
Whereas, the GB Women worked really hard and well, we have at least two of our best gymnasts not at Paris as they are recovering from injury - they are young and should be part of the GB team in four years time.
