Just that really. All things related to the 16 day event.

I am in awe of our Olympian achievements but wonder who selected the truly awful tracksuits - they make these beautiful athletes’ legs look deformed. A real own goal!

Well done,
Primrose's relative. I saw that event and he was excellent .

Thanks so much. He started with a homemade horse in his back garden when he was much younger. All the family are over the moon. ☘️☘️

Surely pommels are not something anyone thinks of starting in their back garden.
Rhys did have to use a horse in his back garden during lockdown, when he was not permitted to continue his training in his gym club - he was already then, although young a force to be reckoned with on this apparatus on the international stage. He managed to keep up his skills and fitness and represented Ireland at the Tokyo games in 2021.

No doubt he is worth Olympic champion - e of the increasing number of apparatus specialists. He does combine both very high DD (difficulties) with excellent form and loses little on that.

I’m watching the skateboarding and it’s amazing but I haven’t a clue what the commentators are talking about. All the women skateboarders were about 14.

Is it just me, or does Paula Radcliffe have a breathless way of commenting? She can't be unfit.

I agree. She’s always talked like that, though.

My current ⭐️ is Dame Laura Kenny!
If only I could bottle her joie de vivre ...

And boy, can she talk!😍

My one claim to fame is that I taught her Languages at her secondary school.
Of course I also claim any credit going for her sporting career.

Yes, I think she's an Essex girl, or maybe Herts? I recognise the accent.
And a lovely smile too!

Wow! Was she good at languages? Did she prepare her GCSE speaking topic on Sport and keeping fit?

Sorry, that was for Laura Kenny! 😃

TBH I cannot remember her at all, but when I was at my next school somebody brought in a double page spread from the TES in which she (and maybe others?) spoke of teachers who had influenced them. In my case she only said that I taught her!!!

Joseann Wed 07-Aug-24 21:04:51

Well, most kids struggle with languages, so she wouldn't say her teacher was brilliant!

Am finding too much talk and not enough coverage of the actual sports going on in the BBC Olympics this time.
I quite like Claire Balding but she does tend to bawl and every time I turn on tv it’s a panel rabbiting on.

Joseann Wed 07-Aug-24 22:06:51

I needed all the talk on Taekwondo. Unfortunately I still don't understand it though! 😃

Oreo Wed 07-Aug-24 22:13:09

I’ll be round in a minute to show you some moves😁get the kettle on.

Casdon Wed 07-Aug-24 22:14:01

I think it depends which sport you’re watching as to how much commentary there is. I’ve watched quite a bit of cycling, and it’s not been over commentated, I think because the action is quite frequent, whereas 100 metres is over in a flash so the commentary seems interminable? I’ve really liked that there have been some less known sports covered too, I’ve enjoyed the skateboarding even though I don’t understand it.

Oreo Wed 07-Aug-24 22:17:22

Am finding far more chat than is usual at Olympic coverage and not sure why there is.

Oreo Wed 07-Aug-24 22:18:19

Am recording it so I can now whizz it by.

Are you watching the athletics? That’s where the chat seems most prevalent?

I love the skateboarding and stay up half the night watching it. They are so skilled, unbelievable. My country is doing much better than everyone expected which is really thrilling for us all. We expect to do well in swimming but some of the other medals were a surprise.

Joseann Fri 09-Aug-24 14:24:16

I think what I've noticed this time is that some go to the Olympic Games sure of winning a medal and fail, yet some go with no hope of winning and succeed. Which makes it all the more interesting. I'm not sure what I'll do with myself after this weekend. Get out more for sure!
