Hot weather bras

I find wearing my usual bras very uncomfortable in the heat. I am a 34D and prefer an underwired bra. I am trying to find a cotton bra but had no luck so far as they all seem to be cotton rich, meaning that they have spandex or some sort of elastic component. Does anyone know where I could find a bra that is 100% cotton?

I would like to know if anyone has a solution to this perennial problem too vegasmags.
I cannot go out without a bra as it would frighten the natives, but I come home very uncomfortable.blush
In the past I have tried cotton bras but they do not offer the support of my usual M&S underwired padded type.
Another problem is that it too hot to venture into changing rooms to try underwear on at present.

I've just googled 100% cotton bras and quite a few come up!

The Daily Telegraph has a feature today on all-cotton clothes and there is a cotton bra by Bodas.

I'm finding the same problem at the moment the bra's I am using are from JLewis and not to bad if I make sure I put extra talc underneath the boob area,I use a fine talc like Bromley and I have had no real problems this year.I 've also stopped using body lotion for the time being as it makes the skin uncomfortable when it's so warm.Just thought have you tried Matalans all cotton sports bra's they give good support without underwiring
I have a few pairs of those.

I am a hot body, sweating profusely at the drop of a hat! One hot summer I got a fungal infection in my cleavage and under-breast area. It quickly responded to Canesten, but I now have cotton pull-on sports bras/cropped tops for the warm weather, and apply Daktarin foot spray! blush

I've looked at the Bodas bras, but they seem a bit skimpy for my more ample frame. When you google phoenix loads do come up but a closer look at what's on offer usually reveals cotton-rich. I am going to try the cotton sports bras that glamma and shy recommend - of course it's inevitable that by the time I get sorted the rain will arrive. Never mind, at least I'll be sorted for my holidays. Right, off to Matalan I go. Thanks, grans.

I use Lanacane non-talc powder in this hot weather - it has a cooling effect, and I don't get rashes or sweaty discomfort like previously. Being well-endowed in this weather can be such a pain. I'm sure anno recommended it recently, too.

If I didn't before, I do now, when.

I live in the sub tropics and rarely wear a bra. If I do wear one, it is cotton with no wire.

I found, when I first came here, that a cotton kaftan with nothing underneath except a pair of cotton bikini briefs kept me cool.

For many women, going bra-less is a good option. And the idea that the breasts will start to sag is false - they stay strong when they have to hold themselves up. Well, that's my experience since 1979, when I was 34.

Here's an article about the dangers of wearing tight bras:
health2us.com/bra.htm

It really is worth trying to go without!

whenim64 Fri 19-Jul-13 12:57:37

What a helpful article, Joan. I hate bras - have never found one I like. They get whipped off at the first opportunity.

whenim64 Fri 19-Jul-13 12:58:56

Was it the cream you recommended, anno? It stuck in my head and I bought both! smile

vegasmags Fri 19-Jul-13 13:29:16

Interesting Joan - I wouldn't wear a bra at all except it would now frighten the horses! I find I often compromise by going about with the bra on but undone, ready to be fastened if there is a knock at the door or I'm going out.

annodomini Fri 19-Jul-13 13:35:48

Most likely the powder, when. I find it very handy that I have a white bath mat so it doesn't show up all over the floor!

MargaretX Fri 19-Jul-13 15:23:47

Wearing no bra is the first step to keeping cool. Flowing skirts, especially long flowing skirts are lovely to wear when its hot.

Pittcity Fri 19-Jul-13 15:25:22

I find dripping sweat a problem if I go braless, at least it soaks that up.
Another problem I used to have was chafing thighs in the heat. My DSIL recommended the stuff he uses when playing football - Lanacane anti chafing gel...that and a bit of weight loss mean one problem is solved.
I am out to buy the rest of the Lanacane range now as recommended by GN forums wink

I find that article interesting too. I take mine off more and more because they dig in where the lymph glands are, and I'd love to go without one all the time, but yes, it's the horses! grin

Thistledoo Fri 19-Jul-13 15:31:08

I decided about a year ago to stop wearing bras at all. I do wear one of those comfort bras that just slip over your head. I have thrown out all my underwired jobs and will never wear one again. Although they are not cotton they are so comfy, I guarantee you will never go back to hooks, straps and wires that dig into your flesh. I bought mine on the internet. Not expensive either.

Ana Fri 19-Jul-13 15:41:19

I've tried those, and while they may be OK to wear around the house, they give far too little support for me to be seen out in public! Too droopy...

Ariadne Fri 19-Jul-13 16:29:36

I bought one too, and while I can vouch for the comfort, my ample (even with bits missing) bosom looked like a low slung shelf...

HildaW Fri 19-Jul-13 19:48:13

34D...try being a 34JJ in this weather!
Joking apart I think that its the fit of the bra that's more important than its material. I've got one style from Bravissimo that fits a treat and I just keep buying it.

Thistledoo Fri 19-Jul-13 19:54:24

The secret with these bras is to buy a size down. So if your dress size is 12 buy a size 8 bra, this is the way they are sized. You do get used to the feeling of not being held so firmly.

Ana Fri 19-Jul-13 20:09:31

No - I'd bulge out of the sides! grin

Ella46 Fri 19-Jul-13 20:13:24

I tried them and found the under band too tight although the fit was fine otherwise.
