Warm, cosy and comfortable, leggings are very popular.
But are we too old?
How can we wear them without looking a fright??

I'd rather just have thick tights.

Yes - I've go them on now, mrsmopp! I wear them with long jumpers/short dresses and boots, and they are so comfy. I bought some really nice cable-knit ones from Primark last year in dark blue and also burgundy. I wouldn't go for the patterned ones, though! - that would be a step too far! grin

Granny23, you wear skirts, though (I've seen you in them wink), and that's something I'd like to start doing, too. I've got some nice ones, but somehow haven't got the confidence to start wearing them - but in saying that, a long jumper/dress and leggings has the same effect, doesn't it!

Love my leggings. smile

Grannyknot Sat 16-Nov-13 17:00:51

Me too. I also wear them with tunics or long tops.

I think it depends what shape/how large you are, more than age. I don't wear them as my legs are much too chunky, and I am also too heavy on bum/thigh. I would only wear a long skirt and thick tights for warmth, but usually live in jeans and longer length tops.

If you are reasonable slim, I think they look great at our age. Warm and fashionable.

Fat knees!! I would love to wear them - I am always in trousers or jeans but think my fat knees might show, even with a long top...

The only time that I would wear leggings would be under M&S's jogging pants as they are getting thinner and thinner.

Ana Sat 16-Nov-13 17:15:46

They are, aren't they? I've noticed that....hmm

Ariadne Sat 16-Nov-13 17:19:48

Knees, or leggings? If it's knees, it's not fair!!

glassortwo Sat 16-Nov-13 17:20:46

grin

tanith Sat 16-Nov-13 17:22:25

I wear them a lot with tunics and long sweaters they are just perfect, warm and so much easier for tucking into short boots. Sainbury do some some lovely fit kegging too.

tanith Sat 16-Nov-13 17:23:24

That should say jeggings not leggings lol

tanith Sat 16-Nov-13 17:24:49

Oh my jeggings not keggings

glammanana Sat 16-Nov-13 17:33:27

I have worn leggings for years and love them with longer length jumpers and dresses,I have also bought "Tu" jeggings from Sainsbury's in the denim material and wear them with my boots and a 3/4 coat they always look neat and tidy,in fact I now prefer them to my normal jeans as they don't have a zip at front or side which can dig in when you have over indulged on the goodies.grin

JessM Sat 16-Nov-13 17:58:11

Yes. Have some slightly tailored ones from Zara and various others.
I think though that, if vain, one should check back view, if backside not covered by a long top. hmm

Oldgreymare Sat 16-Nov-13 18:07:55

No.
Every time I try them on I get a fit of the giggles!

gillybob Sat 16-Nov-13 18:17:54

Yes I love my leggings. I wear them with dresses, jumpers, skirts, tunics.....I have just invested in a pair of lovely wine coloured velvet ones, they're lush!

Hope Absent isn't reading this thread glassortwo grin

glassortwo Sat 16-Nov-13 18:24:34

grin grin she probably wont recall the conversation gilly.

gillybob Sat 16-Nov-13 18:28:56

You are probably right. I think she had definitely had a glassortwo, or three or four or twelve grin

The funniest thing was that neither of us dared speak up !

BAnanas Sat 16-Nov-13 18:49:00

Definitely, but only black ones and always with something longish over them to ensure that the butt is well covered. I do like them, great with ankle boots and very comfortable.

joannapiano Sat 16-Nov-13 21:22:12

I tried on some leggings a couple of years ago and looked like Max Wall's sister.
Never again.

Ana Sat 16-Nov-13 21:23:57

grin That's where the long tops/tunics come in, joanna!

Deedaa Sat 16-Nov-13 21:28:31

I went against all my principles and bought some denim jeggings in M&S and they look pretty good with a long top. Even DH said they made my legs look thinner!
