have given up on jeans this last year [high time! for me at least.] Still wear trousers a lot but am coming more round to liking wearing skirts. trouble is although there are lots of Summer skirts around, find Winter ones more problematic not sure why. Then it's trying to find one that doesn't whoosh up over your head on a windy day [not a pretty sight, exposes the red flannel knickers.] what colour, what SHAPE, sigh.

I am definately a jeans person and only really wear a skirt/dress in the Summer/holiday or a special occasion. I'm much happier in boots and jeans/jeggings , although I agree with you about Winter skirts , I was looking for a plain black stretchy straight skirt to take on a trip in a couple of weeks that I could dress up or down depending on what we are doing and so far I haven't found anything suitable.

I live in jeans since I have retired. I have invested in some Levis which are expensive but a lovely shape and will last me for years. Straight leg, ankle boots with a heel, a pretty top - that's me sorted. smile Obviously not in the summer though.

I only wear skirts in extremely hot weather - so that means, not often in the UK. It has to be about 32C before I can be tempted into a skirt or dress. I own them, I have very nice ones, I just hate wearing them. I worry about them blowing up into the air, getting stuck in the back of my knickers, riding up because of my shouderbag, getting creased at the back, needing ironing, I have dreadful knees and never feel I can wear one for two days running as I can with a pair of trousers. I always end up altering them as I have either small waist to hip, or fat hip to waist, ratio. In the winter I always used to wear them with thick woolly tights with a normal pair underneath, I always felt so cold in them.

So why do I own so many? I don't think I have ever thought it out before. I love the idea of wearing them, I suppose. I have started to wear many of my winter dresses over slim-cut trousers over the past couple of years. I have shortened some to make them tunics.

I don't own a skirt at all - haven't worn one for years, and only have a few dresses, one summer maxi and one part of a very posh outfit which I wore once. Oh, I do have a few evening dresses packed away some where. I think.
And a ball dress.

I just have loads of trousers for every occasion and feel good in them. Jeans - sometimes, but I prefer linen in the summer and cords in the winter. When I worked, I wore jackets and trousers.

I'd love to wear dresses and skirts but I can't find tights and shoes that I'm comfy in for winter wear. The summer is easy but I have to make do with jeans and trousers for the rest of the year.

Tanith what about this:

skirt

I like the look of it and it's very cheap!

Ana Fri 10-Jan-14 12:21:19

Very cheap...?confused

I don't own a skirt or dress at all, last time I wore a dress was at my wedding in 1978,shouldn't have bothered lol as got divorced eventually.Only wore a skirt under protest when at school and went to ridiculous lengths to change into trousers at first opportunity.Wore trouser suits at both my daughters weddings, and no hats as I don't do hats either, suffice to say I was a bit of a tomboy in my younger days and probably still am lol.

I hardly ever wear skirts. I tried to buy a fancy frock for the festive period, failed totally. I bought a pair of black pants and a cream top, and felt great. I have old jeans for dog walking, new jeans for most social occasions and coloured jeans types for when I feel more of an effort is needed.
Riverwalk - I did buy that M&S skirt, and I agree, the price is good. I wear that for my very part time work, with thick tights and flat shoes. I love being retired from my more formal working life, when I needed smart suits, shirts, etc - it's bliss to buy clothes I like and will wear a lot. I spend a lot less as well.

i dont like wearing jeans as i find them uncomfortable...i wear trousers most of the time and in the summer cropped trousers...i do have a couple of skirts and own two dresses...i now put comfort before fashion...

kittylester Fri 10-Jan-14 13:19:03

Try Kettlewell Tanith. Not particularly cheap but good quality and last for ages.

I HATE skirts unless it's really hot. I have appalling legs [well, one actually - the veins are horrendous!] but I would love to wear skirts in winter if I knew how to stop them riding up on tights. Or is it just me? sad

I have loads of black jeans (M&S Sculpt and something are good) and lots of black trousers of varying types. I also have two pairs of blue jeans. I can remember reading an article where Anthea Turner said a woman can never have too many pairs of black trousers. I am blush to say I agree with her.shock

I wear jeans or jeggings most of the time, and do have a couple of skirts which I quite like to wear occasionally, but I'm never sure what to wear, coat-wise....! A jacket isn't warm enough and coats are too formal for me - in fact the only coat I have is a long jacket.....confused

grannymary Fri 10-Jan-14 13:48:32

Trousers mostly but I do love a dress, I've just bought a couple of cord dresses in the seasalt sale, lovely and warm layered with t shirt and cardi and thick tights, somehow makes me feel more dressed'

sunseeker Fri 10-Jan-14 13:50:13

Was so pleased to give up skirt suits when I retired that I now live in either jeans or trousers. I do have dresses for formal occasions but like you kittylester I have lost count of the number of pairs of black trousers I own.

janerowena Fri 10-Jan-14 13:57:52

I was about to say, I did once own a skirt when I was pregnant that I lived and died in and it was very similar to that skirt. It grew with me, being a very thick elasticated textured jersey and aways looked wonderful, in fact I wish I had kept it rather than passed it on to a pregnant neighbour. My winter skirts have always been pencil skirts apart from one flared dark brown suede skirt. I now have an urge to buy that skirt, but know I would never wear it.

Choir?

No

Soutra Fri 10-Jan-14 14:36:14

I hate my legs which are fat anyway and my ankles swell up even on "not so cold" days so unless I can wear knee high boots slirts are a total no no. When I got the winter clothes down from the loft I found 3 really nice CC skirts - alas too tight round the waist, which would look great with boots, but I can honestly say I have not worn a skirt for at least 4 years!

dollie Fri 10-Jan-14 14:51:22

i think we all hate parts of out body soutra ...me personally dont give one iota anymore lol...

Aka Fri 10-Jan-14 15:03:08

I have a skirt somewhere I think.

annodomini Fri 10-Jan-14 15:35:24

I wore a skirt (purple cord from Cotton Traders) on Christmas day, but am normally seen in either black or grey trousers, or navy cords.

BAnanas Fri 10-Jan-14 15:59:16

Leggings and jeans and smarter trousers for more formal occasions. I have skirts but I don't like them, I wear them very occasionally. If I have to.

Lona Fri 10-Jan-14 16:08:38

I don't own a skirt or a dress, I live in blue jeans, black skinnies/treggings and boots, black jeans or smart black trousers, depending on my mood.
I would wear a long skirt with boots, but I haven't seen one I like yet.

ninathenana Fri 10-Jan-14 16:10:48

Oh to have the figure to live in trousers!
I do wear them in doors in winter and occasionally out if I can find a long top to hide the lumpy bits.
I cannot wear even crop trousers in summer. I love to get air to my legs, and prefer long 'gypsy' style.

ninathenana Fri 10-Jan-14 16:11:51

Skirts that is smile

TriciaF Fri 10-Jan-14 16:16:16

I've got very skinny legs so want to hide them, can no longer wear warm tights.
I have a few long skirts, and for winter I've made 3 pairs of trousers which flare out at the base, and look a bit like a long skirt.
Got some lovely cotton cord fabric, different colours, v. cheap from USA but that's another story!
