have given up on jeans this last year [high time! for me at least.] Still wear trousers a lot but am coming more round to liking wearing skirts. trouble is although there are lots of Summer skirts around, find Winter ones more problematic not sure why. Then it's trying to find one that doesn't whoosh up over your head on a windy day [not a pretty sight, exposes the red flannel knickers.] what colour, what SHAPE, sigh.

Jeans and leggings for me - so much more comfortable. And I confess that my favourite pair of jeans is maternity wear! I am not overweight but find these so comfortable that it is difficult to get them off me! No fiddly zips - just yank them up!

it seems that over the years women have become more and more addicted to wearing the trousers LOL [although I can be just as bossy in a skirt.]As I have expanded I find jeans too uncomfortable, trousers are fine, and I have many different pairs, but I don't do leggings or jeggings [Mr Roses would fall about laughing].Skirts are very comfortable, and Winter ones can be worn long with ankle boots or long boots [or any length boots] if you can find one that you like. I have a very nice black skirt but want a thick jersey or slight bobbly tweedy one [straight skirt if poss] and can't find one.I have no Winter dresses at all they are all for Spring/Summer. In the 60's I loved the knitted sweater dresses with boots, but my dolly bird days are long gone.sad

One of my daughter's was married last year. She and her now husband had been saving for ages, as I'm a cruel mum, and said I'd help with deposits for houses from my limited savings, but not with expensive weddings. They organised and largely paid for a big wedding. The groom's parents donated some money, we put in an amount but the couple did the bulk, and all the planning. It was a wonderful day. I spent months, honestly, months, looking for an outfit that would be suitable for the MOB but not make me feel like a transvestite, or a Lady mayoress. I ended up buying a lovely grey jacket, with pearl buttons and interesting cuffs, and some silk pewter grey trousers. I'm very tall, so can get away with trousers. I even bought a wee hat, and a pair of proper shoes. The shoes nearly did for me, but I felt so comfortable, and like 'me' in the outfit. The MOG wore a long floaty frock and hat, and looked grand. All together, we were all very pleased with our choices, relaxed and had a great day. I am not good at skirts or frocks, though I did get a lovely frock from Per Una, very rare for me, as their stuff is a bit frilly for me. The dress was grey (is there a theme here), a shift dress, with short sleeves that cover those bumpy bits and a round neck line. I bought it for a posh 60th and will wear it again, as it's comfy!

Sounds like you made a good choice Iam64 it sounds like a lovely outfit, and more importantly you felt like YOU.Also can wear the clothes again or as separates. I felt exactly the same at my childrens weddings as I hated all the MOB stuff it would have felt very false for me.I think grey is a very good colour and flattering for most skin types.

As a PA I only ever wore suits or skirts and tops if it was warm. When I retired seven years ago I have usually worn trousers unless I am going to a formal occasion. Oh the freedom!

I have four dresses, all bought for weddings , one suede skirt bought in a sale in Monsoon over ten years ago. I have masses of jeans and trousers, blouses and sweaters. I just don't feel comfortable in skirts and dresses but most of all I hate tights. I feel totally constricted by them and restricted by movement in dresses.

Isn't it interesting how many of us choose to live in comfortable clothes, jeans, stretchy leggings and so on.
Whilst I do love the frocks in costume drama's, I'm always hugely relieved I live now, so i never have to freeze to death in some crafty, huge old house, wearing an off the shoulder number whilst all the chaps have on warm clothing. Mind you, I feel like that on the rare occasions I frock up, so I layer up and wear thermals.

The last time I wore a dress was for my son's wedding eight years ago. I don't actually possess one now. I wore a skirt once last summer. Yet my daughter in law nearly always wears skirts. She has a girly figure - small waist curvy hips whereas I am apple shaped - (waist last seen around 1992 sad. ) All my life I have wanted to look good in blue jeans but I have to settle for m&s dark trousers - I must have hundreds of pairs!

Leggings for me most of the year round sometimes with a knee length skirt over the top or with a long jumper or t- shirt. Long skirts in hot weather. Leggings are so comfortable and easy to wear.

I can wear dresses but skirts are not for me. I am too short and have big boobs so skirt and top and then tights chop me up too many times! Trousers and longer tops are not as bad! Also more practical an comfortable for me..and that is what counts!

Well I am clearly in the minority as I dont own a pair of trousers of any sort. I wear long skirts all the time as I have fat thighs that look ghastly in trousers. I would love to be able to wear trousers but my tree trunk legs don't allow. I struggle to find long (36") winter skirts. My dream is to be able to wear trousers. I must admit I hate the look of jeans on older people sad

Oh dear! You wouldn't like me then nanapug, I'm hardly ever out of Per Una jeans unless it's a special occasion and then it's long skirts to hide all my operation scars and uneven legs!
I love other people in skirts though and wish I could still wear heels.

Leggings are a complete no-no for me. I'm a jeans person although I did buy a couple of dresses last year. A few more weeks on the 5:2 when I get home and they will fit again grin. I have been wearing shorts and strappy tops shock for the last 5 weeks and also, to ring the changes, a short denim skirt. Luckily DD doesn't have a full length mirror so I can't see how ghastly they look on me, but tbqh, it is so hot, I really don't care! I just wish I looked as good as DD who could wear a black plastic sack and look stunning.

I am sure I would like you nannyfran, just not your jeans ;) I think if I went anywhere near a pair of short Gally I would be locked up x

grin nanapug just realised this year how very unattractive and uncomfortable jeans are on me but used to love them. Mainly trousers now for me too, they cover up a lot of sins! I wear long-ish tops if I can find them over them or tshirt type top with long line cardi which slims you down a bit [well the look of you anyway.]However, when I wear a skirt I think how comfy it is, and of course it covers up fat thigh prob doesn't it?
