tights or stockings?

Writing the jeans/skirts thread has reminded me that I find tights very difficult to get on these days, don't know the exact time it happened, one year all was fine, the next I was writhing around on the bedroom carpet [and I don't do much of that these days either] trying to get the blooming things past my knees.I am fairly short [and round] and if you buy ex-large they expect you to be about 5/10",wonder if Queen Victoria had this problem?!
So, any of you found good quality tights that are not a struggle and actually fit? Am not a big fan of stockings, though I wore some at a wedding last year as it was hot.

Paper knickers?shock I learn something new all the time from you guys! I had the hardest time with stockings and belts when I was young just starting to wear them. Stockings were always too long and never seemed to stay up till they finally made stretchy ones. extra stocking around your ankles...not a good look!

Yes, yes - I know; I have never had to put up with the trials and tribulations of stocking wearing... but there was a time when that was all there was for a lady to wear - and that was my youth. (Sigh)

Socks! Socks! Socks! Haven't worn tights or skirts since I retired.

I'm with you, Lilygran. Socks are great, the prettier or sillier the better. smile

Oh heavens, reading this has just brought back a memory! I probably would have been in the last year of junior school. I had one of those purple checked gingham sort of Junior Miss suspender belts (there were matching bras too, but I didn't need one sad)

I had some very long white socks and for some reason thought it would be an idea to attach them to my suspender belt. It was a good thing that my mother noticed before I set off, I couldn't stand up straight.

LOL Phoenix but why did you own a suspender belt aged only 11?Was it one of the 'must haves' amongst the girls?Anyway, even when I was a teenager, I was only allowed a white one , so yours sounds prettier. You must have had some very long suspenders! grin

I have read that Snag tights are amazing. My friend who is on the larger size loves them and they come in fab colours. I live in trousers most of the time and wear woolly socks at home. Christmas is coming though I will have to go through my tights drawer and see what I can find.

I struggle putting tights on one handed. I either have bare legs, hold ups or leggings. The leggings look like tights when worn with boots.

I find Gudrun Sjoden tights comfortable and they wear well too. They are thicker and a solid colour, made from polyamide and I normally buy the black.

*Always suspect when a thread from 2014 .....

...............that's 7 years ago is revived...don't you think!*

I'm 5 ft 2 (just) size 14 (just) . I find M and S Autograph tights medium work for me. I sit on a chair to get them on. They do need a pull up now and again but as I love to wear frocks esp if going out it's not a bother.

I haven’t worn tights since I went to my aunt’s funeral four or five years ago and wore them with a skirt. Since I retired I tend to wear tunics and cotton leggings in the summer, or shorts. In the winter I wear similar but with socks. I still have a big box of work tights in my wardrobe which I would dip into for things like funerals.

I needed black tights recently. Wanted thicker ones rather than sheer. Got lovely comfortable ones at Tescos. Soft touch. I am a size 10/12 and I bought medium. Fab.

I vote for Snag tights. They do sizes from 4 to 38, and they also give you different height choices in each size. They do different deniers, sheer to opaque, and they come in either "sensible" or funky colours and patterns. I'm a 22 and they are the only tights that fit me without either being as constricting as a boa - the snake, not the feathers! - or having to be constantly yanked up. I wouldn't wear any others now.

Snag website. Snag tights are amazing. Colorful, comfortable and a good fit

M&S holdups for me, can't bend my knees enough to put on tights. Unfortunately I have an occasional reaction (welts and blisters) to the silicone bands too sad. It's very difficult.

I have been buying snag tights for the last year. Check them out online at snagtights.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiAh_GNBhAHEiwAjOh3ZISuHnBUb58sEJHfO927DzS-9txDNTGz8bWBk6B1ggCtyLyVo0LlPRoCehIQAvD_BwE

Another vote for Snag tights - they cover my rather generous thighs with ease..... and avoid the contortions that less stretchy offers require smile
