bath versus shower!

I must come clean here grin I haven't had a bath for about 7 years!!
I am a shower person through and through. Think I am too impatient by nature to fill and then wallow in a bath.I love my shower and feel invigorated afterwards rather than sleepy [which is what a bath used to do to me.]What about you? By the way, I am NOT a journalist. grin

I love my bath. I rarely have a shower, and dread the day when I can't climb in and out of the bath.

Bath every time, I love them as a relaxant. I only have a shower if I am in a hurry, covered in mud from gardening or something. A bubble bath is what I would take as my desert island luxury. I have a quick shower afterwards using the attachment on the taps, to clean the bath as much as to get bubbles off me. I dread the day my arthritickyness prevents me from having baths. In the meantime I have developed a nifty way of getting in and out which involves rolling and supporting myself on my arms, so as long as they stay strong I am ok. It's also a lot easier to get in and out before and after the water is in the bath.

I do love a nice long bath, but a combination of knee replacements and a frozen shoulder mean that getting out of it is problematic so I usually make do with a shower. It's not the same though!

Had to give up my bath for a shower sadly because I could not get in or out of it. Now I just love my walk in shower.

I have walk In Shower which I use most of the time
Occasionally I have a bath using an electric bath lift, but it's not entirely satisfactory ad the bath is a corner type, so I can't lie down full length!
Also, it has to be taken out every time DGD 's visit and then replaced!

Shower every morning, and then two or three times a week, I have a lovely long soak. I prop my iPad up, and listen to a podcast I've downloaded while soaking! Listened to the Archers omnibus tonight!

I love my shower, but have a bath when I need to give my feet a good going over which is difficult when standing on one leg in the shower. I'm thinking of a walk-in shower with a seat.

Gally Sun 09-Mar-14 22:54:19

A bath is the only way to do the feet. I have a daily shower for hairwashing purposes but often, like today, follow the shower with a long soak in Molton Brown. Great for relaxing, helping aching bones and definitely helps get rid of headaches.

Used to love long soaks in the bath but since moving to a house with a water meter it is a shower every morning and a bath as a treat. Bath is great for relaxation and me time!

I'm still trying to work out which bits you can't wash in a shower but you can in a bath. I spent much longer in the shower today pondering this mystery.

Love a long soak in the bath and only shower when in a hurry. I don't like getting my face wet! I know, it's a necessity when washing hair! I like to read when soaking.
I agree with Jingle and have also had a quick dip, showering off the suds. Also, I agree that the feet benefit from the long soak. X

We have a separate shower in our bathroom but both of us are completely wedded to baths and it is only used y visitors.

We did once have a house with an en-suite shower room. I used it but never really took to it. DH never used it once.

The sheer luxury of relaxing into a big tub of hot water and letting it relax your muscles and envelope you in warmth. It relaxes my mind as well as my body. Showers are for swimming pools, where I really enjoy them.

AH, at last the bath brigade have come out, I was wondering where they were.So far then it's about 50/50 for baths versus showers. When you are younger you never think there may come a time when you can't nip in and out of the bath, do you?In the past [pre -shower era] it must have been a real problem.

rosesarered Mon 10-Mar-14 09:31:31

I also wonder if it's a generational thing too? All our 'children' have showers even though they have a bath in their bathrooms as well, in fact only the DGC are given baths.Just in the interests of science, I think I will have a bath later on to see if I do like it or not.

Oh for God's sake Absent! Don't think about it that much! hmm

If you reckon yours is clean enough, fine. hmm

You are right Roses about the difficulty of baths for elderly people. My parents, who lived in their own home until their 90s didn't have a shower and my Dad used to stand in the bath with a sponge and wash himself down there. Mum couldn't manage to step over the edge and into the bath so had a strip wash at the sink. They were both clean an practical folk who adjusted their toilette to their physical problems.

That said, I love my walk in shower and haven't had a bath since 1996 when I slipped in the bath, fell and chipped my shin bone on the taps. It took 6 months for the resulting haemotoma/ulcer to heal. Baths can be very dangerous. A friend of ours fell asleep after a little too much wine and drowned in his.

Bath for me too. Wouldn't buy a house where the bath had been taken out, unless I could put it straight back in. Wouldn't be without a bidet either, so there would have to be room for that.

henetha Mon 10-Mar-14 10:42:36

Like I said earlier, there is no bath installed here so it's shower only.
Sometimes I stand in a washing up bowl in the shower so that the feet get a good soak.
(not the one from the kitchen! I bought a spare one).
I have no trouble washing all my bits. But I do miss having a bath. sad

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Mar-14 11:32:24

Yes! Feet are a problem in a shower! I would rather be safely sitting on my backside to wash mine.

Nonnie Mon 10-Mar-14 12:30:12

We shower because it is more environmentally friendly. I think I read that you can have about 10 showers in the water it takes for one bath so for us it is one of the easy ways to help the future of our GCs. Maybe that has changed this year?

We do bath very occasionally if we have done very strenuous gardening and sometimes on holiday take a long lazy bath.

I don't think I would have time to bath every morning, a shower is so much quicker.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 10-Mar-14 12:49:47

NEVER used to shower until having a child. Now hardly ever have baths but much prefer.

So - shower every morning for cleansing purposes. Baths on holiday, at weekends or sometimes in the evenings for relaxation and reading and cleaning all in one (though never confuse a kindle with a bar of soap - very expensive mistake)

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 10-Mar-14 12:56:20

PS - you can't eat cake in the shower. I do believe that settles in grin

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 10-Mar-14 13:07:46

shock (the kindle thing!)

I have got my bath-plus-shower down to a fine, and speedy, art. And it includes Fly-lady's swish and swipe! [halo]

Charleygirl Mon 10-Mar-14 13:33:28

annodomini may I suggest if you are thinking of installing a shower that you buy a separate seat. If you have a folding one attached to the tiles, eventually it becomes loose from the wall. I decided to buy a separate stool for that reason.

TriciaF Mon 10-Mar-14 16:51:47

Definitely bath - and something interesting to read there. It's part of my pre-bed relaxation routine.
The only time I have a shower (always cold) is during the day when I'm pouring with sweat from summer gardening.
